Performance analysis and multi-objective optimization based on a modified irreversible Stirling cycle

The efficiency of the actual Stirling engine is much lower than the ideal Carnot cycle efficiency. To obtain more precise efficiency for Stirling engines, this paper proposes a modified Stirling cycle with a more accurate heat transfer process in Stirling engines based on a thermodynamic function called available potential. The finite-time thermodynamic method is used to analyze the model performance under constant heat source temperature, finite temperature difference heat transfer, and incomplete regenerative processes. A new polytropic process is introduced to model the heat transfer between the working fluid and external heat sources in which only heat above ambient temperature is converted into technical work. The regenerator is divided into numerous smaller heat reservoirs with individual temperature to analyze the incomplete regenerative processes. The expressions of the output power and thermal efficiency are obtained based on the modified irreversible Stirling cycle, and the effects of irreversible losses are analyzed to evaluate the performance of the proposed model. Results indicate that the efficiency of the modified cycle is much lower than that of the ideal Stirling cycle with an isothermal process. With the increase of the average heat transfer temperature difference, there exists an optimum value for the power of the irreversible cycle. The optimum power of the model was obtained for varying thermodynamic parameters by optimizing the average heat transfer temperature difference between the hot and cold sides. To optimize the irreversible model, the multi-objective optimization analysis is carried out based on NSGA-Ⅱ, which results in an optimized output power of 40.87 kW and an optimized thermal efficiency of 44%.

Robust Interval State Estimation for Distribution Systems Considering Pseudo-measurement Interval Prediction

Interval state estimation(ISE)can estimate state intervals of power systems according to confidence intervals of predicted pseudo-measurements,thereby analyzing the impact of uncertain pseudo-measurements on states.However,predicted pseudo-measurements have prediction errors,and their confidence intervals do not necessarily contain the truth values,leading to estimation biases of the ISE.To solve this problem,this paper proposes a pseudo-measurement interval prediction framework based on the Gaussian process regression(GPR)model,thereby improving the prediction accuracy of pseudo-measurement confidence intervals.Besides,a weight assignment strategy for improving the robustness of weighted least squares(WLS)ISE is proposed.This strategy quantifies the deviation between the pseudo-measurement intervals and their estimated intervals and assigns smaller weights to the pseudo-measurement intervals with larger deviations,thereby improving the estimation accuracy and robustness of the ISE.This paper adopts the data from the supervisory control and data acquisition(SCADA)system of the New York Independent System Operator(NYISO).It verifies the advantages of the GPR method for pseudo-measurement interval prediction by comparing it with the quantile regression and neural network methods.In addition,this paper demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed weight assignment strategy through the IEEE 14-bus case.Finally,the differences in the estimation accuracy and the bad data identification between the robust interval state estimation and deterministic state estimation are discussed.

Screening and identification of functional bacterial attachment genes in aerobic granular sludge

The screening and identification of attachment genes is important to exploring the formation mechanism of biofilms at the gene level.It is helpful to the development of key culture technologies for aerobic granular sludge(AGS).In this study,genome-wide sequencing and gene editing were employed for the first time to investigate the effects and functions of attachment genes in AGS.With the help of whole-genome analysis,ten attachment genes were screened from thirteen genes,and the efficiency of gene screening was greatly improved.Then,two attachment genes were selected as examples to further confirm the gene functions by constructing gene-knockout recombinant mutants of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia;when the two attachment genes were knocked out,the attachment potential was reduced by 50.67%and 43.93%,respectively.The results provide a new theoretical principle and efficient method for the development of AGS from the perspective of attachment genes.

Curcumin Interferes with TGF-β1-Induced Fibrosis in NRK-49F Cells by Reversing ADAMTS18 Gene Methylation

Objective: To explore the molecular mechanism by which curcumin affects renal interstitial fibrosis（RIF） progression by regulating ADAM metallopeptidase with thrombospondin type 1 motif 18（ADAMTS18） methylation. Methods: NRK-49F cells RIF model were induced with transforming growth factor β1（TGF-β1）. Effects of different concentrations of curcumin（0, 10, 20, and 30 μmol/L） on cell proliferation, cell cycle, cell apoptosis as well as cyclin D1 expression were analyzed by cell counting kit-8, flow cytometry and Western blot, respectively. ADAMTS18 methylation levels were determined by methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction. ADAMTS18, fibronectin（FN）, type Ⅰ collagen（Col-Ⅰ） and alpha-smooth muscle actin（α-SMA） mRNA and protein expressions were analyzed by real-time PCR（RT-PCR） and Western blot, respectively. Meanwhile, cells were treated with 50 mmol/L 5-aza-2'-deoxycytidine（5-aza-dC, demethylation agent） for 72 h. Effect of curcumin on extracellular matrix（ECM） deposition was evaluated by immunochemical staining and Western blot. NRK-49F cells were transfected with ADAMTS18 small interfering RNA and grouped into a normal control, ADAMTS18-knock-out（KO）, and ADAMTS18-KO+ 30 μmol/L curcumin groups, and whether curcumin can reverse the effect of ADAMTS18 knockdown on RIF was evaluated. Results: Compared with the control group, TGF-β1 significantly inhibited the proliferation of NRK-49F cells, blocked the G1/G0phase, promoted cell apoptosis and inhibited cyclin D1 expression（P<0.01）. Among the different concentrations of curcumin, 30 μmol/L curcumin significantly reversed these processes（P<0.01）. Immunochemical staining and Western blot results showed that curcumin significantly inhibited the deposition of FN, Col-Ⅰ and α-SMA（P<0.01）. Curcumin and 5-zaz-dC had synergistic effects, promoting ADAMTS18 expression, removing ADAMTS18 methylation, and reducing ECM deposition. ADAMTS18 knockdown promoted ECM accumulation, and curcumin reversed this process（P<0.01）. Conclusion: TGF-β1 induced fibrosis in NRK-49F cells.

Global trend of nondrug and nonsedativehypnotic treatment forinsomnia: a bibliometric study

OBJECTIVE: To present a bibliometric analysis of global scientific publications on the nondrug and nonsedative hypnotic treatment of insomnia with regard to influential institutions, publications, countries, research hotspots,trends, and frontiers. METHODS: A literature review was conducted by searching the Web of Science Core Collection(Wo SCC) and China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI) databases to identify all publications related to the nondrug and nonsedative hypnotic treatment of insomnia from 2000 to 2021. Eligible publications were reviewed, including annual publication increments, citation analyses, international collaborations, and keyword analyses. The data were analysed using Cite Space(vers5.8.R3, 6.1.R2 and 6.1.6, College of Computing and Informatics, Philadelphia, PA, USA) and virtualized by knowledge maps. RESULTS:In total, 9832 publications were included in this analysis. The results from the WoSCC showed that the United States of America(Count = 2268, 40.33%), Stanford University(Count = 141, 2.51%), and the United States Department of Health and Human Services were the leading country, institute, and funding agency regarding the number of publications, respectively. “Cognitive-behavioural therapy” was the most popular research topic generated from the cocited reference. The most frequently co-occurring keywords were insomnia, cognitive behavioural therapy, disorder, depression, quality of life, Meta-analysis, older adult, sleep, prevalence and efficacy, while keywords including clinical practice guideline, guideline, and Tai Chi remained popular after 2021. Circadian rhythm was the strongest research frontier for 2000-2021. In China, Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine(Count = 69, 4.79%) was the most productive institute in this field. Utility of real-time 3D visualization system in the early stage of phacoemulsification training

●AIM:To determine the teaching effects of a real-time three dimensional(3D)visualization system in the operating room for early-stage phacoemulsification training.●METHODS:A total of 10 ophthalmology residents of the first-year postgraduate were included.All the residents were novices to cataract surgery.Real-time cataract surgical observations were performed using a custom-built 3D visualization system.The training lasted 4wk(32h)in all.A modified International Council of Ophthalmology’s Ophthalmology Surgical Competency Assessment Rubric(ICO-OSCAR)containing 4 specific steps of cataract surgery was applied.The self-assessment(self)and expert-assessment(expert)were performed through the microsurgical attempts in the wet lab for each participant.●RESULTS:Compared with pre-training assessments(self 3.2±0.8,expert 2.5±0.6),the overall mean scores of posttraining(self 5.2±0.4,expert 4.7±0.6)were significantly improved after real-time observation training of 3D visualization system(P<0.05).Scores of 4 surgical items were significantly improved both self and expert assessment after training(P<0.05).●CONCLUSION:The 3D observation training provides novice ophthalmic residents with a better understanding of intraocular microsurgical techniques.It is a useful tool to improve teaching efficiency of surgical education.

Western diet(rich in highly refined sugar and fat)can induce a range of metabolic dysfunctions in animals and humans,including neuroinflammation and cognitive function decline.Neuroinflammation and cognitive impairment,two critical pathological characteristics of Alzheimer’s disease,have been closely associated with microbial alteration via the gut-brain axis.Thus,the present study aimed to investigate the influence of 2-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-L-ascorbic acid(AA-2βG)isolated from the fruits of Lycium barbarum on preventing the high-fructose diet(HFrD)induced neuroinflammation in mice.It was found that AA-2βG prevented HFr D-induced cognitive deficits.AA-2βG also predominantly enhanced the gut barrier integrity,decreased lipopolysaccharide entry into the circulation,which subsequently countered the activation of glial cells and neuroinflammatory response.These beneficial effects were transmissible by horizontal fecal microbiome transplantation,transferring from AA-2βG fed mice to HFr D fed mice.Additionally,AA-2βG exerted neuroprotective effects involving the enrichment of Lactobacillus and Akkermansia,potentially beneficial intestinal bacteria.The present study provided the evidence that AA-2βG could improve indices of cognition and neuroinflammmation via modulating gut dybiosis and preventing leaky gut.As a potential functional food ingredient,AA-2βG may be applied to attenuate neuroinflammation associated with Western-style diets.

To the Editor:Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration(EUS-FNA)has replaced other high-risk invasive methods and has become the primary method of tissue collection around the gastrointestinal tract.^([1])To further improve the effectiveness and safety of EUS-FNA,pathologists may perform rapid on-site cytology evaluation(ROSE),but this process requires the presence of pathologists.Macroscopic on-site evaluation(MOSE)has gained attention as it resolve the shortage of pathologist resources.^([2])Endoscopists can inspect the tissue core in real time and assess the adequacy of the punctured material.In this study,we conducted a single-center and single-arm exploratory study to explore the value of MOSE in assessing specimen quality during magnifier-based EUS-FNA and to confirm the cut-off length of visible tissue core(VTC)for EUS-FNA to help endosonographers independently predict the adequacy of punctured specimens.The VTC was defined as a white or incarnadine tissue core obtained from focal lesions with a relatively complete histological structure.

Crystal facet-dependent CO_(2)cycloaddition to epoxides over ZnO catalysts

With regard to green chemistry and sustainable development,the fixation of CO_(2)into epoxides to form cyclic carbonates is an attractive and promising pathway for CO_(2)utilization.Metal oxides,renowned as promising eco-friendly catalysts for industrial production,are often undervalued in terms of their impact on the CO_(2)addition reaction.In this work,we successfully developed ZnO nanoplates with(002)surfaces and ZnO nanorods with(100)surfaces via morphology-oriented regulation to explore the effect of crystal faces on CO_(2)cycloaddition.The quantitative data obtained from electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy indicated that the concentration of oxygen vacancies on the ZnO nanoplate surfaces was more than twice that on the ZnO nanorod surfaces.Density functional theory calculations suggested that the(002)surfaces have lower adsorption energies for CO_(2)and epichlorohydrin than the(100)surfaces.As a result,the yield of cyclochloropropene carbonate on the ZnO nanoplates(64.7%)was much greater than that on the ZnO nanorods(42.3%).Further evaluation of the reused catalysts revealed that the decrease in the oxygen vacancy concentration was the primary factor contributing to the decrease in catalytic performance.Based on these findings,a possible catalytic mechanism for CO_(2)cycloaddition with epichlorohydrin was proposed.This work provides a new idea for the controllable preparation of high-performance ZnO catalysts for the synthesis of cyclic carbonates from CO_(2)and epoxides.

DNA-encoded chemical library(DEL)links the power of amplifiable genetics and the nonself-replicating chemical phenotypes,generating a diverse chemical world.In analogy with the biological world,the DEL world can evolve by using a chemical central dogma,wherein DNA replicates using the PCR reactions to amplify the genetic codes,DNA sequencing transcripts the genetic information,and DNA-compatible synthesis translates into chemical phenotypes.Importantly,DNA-compatible synthesis is the key to expanding the DEL chemical space.Besides,the evolution-driven selection system pushes the chemicals to evolve under the selective pressure,i.e.,desired selection strategies.In this perspective,we summarized recent advances in expanding DEL synthetic toolbox and panning strategies,which will shed light on the drug discovery harnessing in vitro evolution of chemicals via DEL.
