Excitation（ Texc ） and rotation（ Trot ） temperatures were determined under different conditions for an oxygen-shielded argon microwave plasmsa torch source（OS-Ar-MPT）. The Texc value, which was shown to be between 4300 and 5250 K under different operating conditions, was calculated from the slope of the Boltzmann plot with Fe as the thermometric species. The Trot value, which was in the range of 2100-2500 K, was measured with OH molecular spectra. The influences of microwave power, flow rates of the support gas, cartier gas, and shielding gas, as well as the observation height on Texc and Trot were investigated and discussed. The detailed results of Texc and Trot provided a better understanding of the performance of an OS-ArMPT as a source for atomic emission spectrometry.

Currently there is considerable interest among oncologists to find anticancer drugs in Chinese herbal medicine (CHM). In the past, clinical data showed that some herbs possessed anticancer properties, but western scientists have doubted the scientific validity of CHM due to the lack of scientific evidence from their perspective. Recently there have been encouraging results, from a western perspective, in the cancer research field regarding the anticancer effects of CHM. Experiments showed that CHM played its anticancer role by inducing apoptosis and differentiation, enhancing the immune system, inhibiting angiogenesis, reversing multidrug resistance (MDR), etc. Clinical trials demonstrated that CHM could improve survival, increase tumor response, improve quality of life, or reduce chemotherapy toxicity, although much remained to be determined regarding the objective effects of CHM in human in the context of clinical trials. Interestingly, both laboratory experiments and clinical trials have demonstrated that when combined with chemotherapy, CHM could raise the efficacy level and lower toxic reactions. These facts raised the feasibility of the combination of herbal medicines and chemotherapy, although much remained to be investigated in this area.

Background Although the introduction of serum prostate-specific antigen （PSA） measurements into clinical practice has revolutionized the care of patients with prostate cancer, there are well-recognized limitations of PSA, and there is a critical need to identify additional prostate cancer biomarkers to assist in early detection and prognosis. In this regard, high resolution proteomic technology has the unexceptionable superiority to find those high abundance biomarkers. The purpose of this study was to search new tumor markers by proteomic technology. Methods The proteins in conditioned medium （CM） of BPH-1 and LNCaP cells were profiled by two-dimensional electrophoresis and identified by matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry （MALDI-TOF-MS）. The corresponding mRNA levels of some identified proteins were analyzed by RT-PCR. Results Totally 11 differentially expressed proteins （6 up-regulated including creatine kinase, brain （CKB）, triosephosphate isomerase 1 （TPI1）, isocitrate dehydrogenase 2 （IDH2） and 5 down-regulated including glutathione S-transferase pi （GST-pi）） in the CM were identified using MALDI-TOF-MS and database search. The expression pattern between mRNA and CM protein levels of CKB, IDH2, TPI1 and GST-pi in BPH-1 and LNCaP was similar. Conclusion We proved a feasible and effective way to search new tumor markers by a proteomics-based strategy and identified 11 potentially useful proteins in CM of BPH-1 and LNCaP cells to distinguish prostate cancer from benign prostatic hypertrophy.

We have developed a microwave-assisted hydrothermal method,where both microwave and hydrothermal techniques are utilized to synthesize CdTe nanocrystals with high quality in less than 55 *** the known preparation methods,the monodisperse CdTe nanocrystals showing narrow emission spectra,widest scope of emission peak（from 500 nm to 822 nm） and high quantum yield（up to 80%） were synthesized by this *** quantum yield of CdTe with near-infrared emission（800 nm） is up to 10%,which is better than that of InAs（0.5%―2%） synthesized in organic ***,we detected the latent fingerprints on aluminum,plastic,glass and papers by prepared CdTe nanocrystals,and photoluminescence fingerprints images were taken with a digital *** the images would transmitt into fingerprint detection system of computer to identify the criminals in suit.

Gene expression changes in patients with fulminant type 1 diabetes

Background Fulminant type 1 diabetes （F1D） is a complex disease. Microarray analysis was used to identify gene expression changes and obtain understanding of the underlying mechanisms. Methods Microarray analysis was performed on peripheral blood mononuclear cells from six F1D patients and six matched healthy subjects. Real-time polymerase chain reaction was used to verify the differentially expressed genes. NK cell activity was detected by methyl thiazoleterazolium assay. Results Microarray analysis identified 759 genes differing in expression between F1D patients and controls at a false discovery rate of 0.05. Expression of TLR9, ELF4 and ILIRAP were verified and consistent with changes in microarray results. NK cell activity was decreased in FID. With use of a knowledge base, differentially expressed genes could be placed within different pathways with predicted functions including interleukin-1, and tumor necrosis factor-a signaling. Conclusions These results identify several genes indicating possible mechanisms in FID. NK cell dysfunction resulting from changes in expression of TLR9, ELF4 and IL1RAP, and pathways of interleukin-1 and tumor necrosis factor-a sianalino miaht be involved in F1D throuoh inducino B-cell dysfunction.

利用0.1 m高分辨率无人机遥感影像,基于面向对象的遥感影像解译方法,对广州市南沙区灵山岛尖土地覆盖进行分类,用于径流系数计算。基于历史降雨模型、水文径流模型和暴雨洪涝情景模型对研究区洪涝致灾因子进行分析,利用现状DEM数据,模拟重现期为10、20、50、100年的淹没范围与深度,结合房屋承灾体调查成果,基于不同模拟情境对研究区房屋遭受洪涝灾害的损失情况进行风险评估分析。结果显示,重现期为10、20、50、100年的淹没深度分别为1.853、1.903、1.953、1.983 m,对应的淹没房屋数量为68、89、97、102栋。

The gradient nanostructure is machined on the aluminum(Al)alloy by the two-dimensional ultrasonic surface burnishing process(2D-USBP).The mechanism of why the gradient nanostructure enhances wear resistance is *** mechanical properties and microstructure characterization for the gradient nanostructure are performed by operating a nanoindenter,transmission electron microscopy(TEM),and electron backscattered diffraction(EBSD).Dry wear tests are performed on the samples before and after machining to evaluate the wear resistance and *** effect of the gradient nanostructure on the wear resistance is explored by developing the crystal plasticity(CP)finite element and molecular dynamics(MD)*** characterization results show that the 2D-USBP sample prepared a gradient structure of~600μm thick on the aluminum surface,increasing the surface hardness from 1.13 to 1.71 GPa and reducing the elastic modulus from 78.84 to 70.14 *** optimization of the surface microstructure and the increase of the mechanical properties effectively enhance the wear resistance of the sample,with 41.20%,39.07%,and 54.58% of the wear scar areas for the 2D-USBP treated samples to the original samples under 5,10,and 15 N loads,*** gradient nanostructure hinders the slip of dislocations inside the sample during the wear process and reduces the size and scope of plastic deformation;meanwhile,the resistance to deformation,adhesion,and crack initiation and propagation of the sample surface is improved,resulting in enhanced wear resistance.
