Study on Influences of Fringing Reef on Harbor Oscillations Triggered by N-Waves

Influences of topographic variations of the offshore fringing reef on the harbor oscillations excited by incident Nwaves with different amplitudes and waveform types are studied for the first *** the propagation of the Nwaves over the reef and the subsequently-induced harbor oscillations are simulated by a Boussinesq-type numerical model,*** present study concentrates on revealing the influences of the plane reef-face slope,the reef-face profile shape and the lagoon width on the maximum runup,the wave energy distribution and the total wave energy within the *** shows that both the wave energy distribution uniformity and the total wave energy gradually increase with decreasing reef-face *** profile shape of the reef face suffering leading-elevation Nwaves(LEN waves)has a negligible impact on the wave energy distribution uniformity,while for leading-depression N-waves(LDN waves),the latter gradually decreases with the mean water depth over the reef *** total wave energy always first increases and then decreases with the mean water depth over the reef *** general,the total wave energy first sharply decreases and then slightly increases with the lagoon width,regardless of the reef-face width and the incident waveform *** maximum runup subjected to the LEN waves decreases monotonously with the lagoon ***,for the LDN waves,its changing trend with the lagoon width relies on the incident wave amplitude.

Adding the impacts of biological crusts on sand and dust storm emission in Asia

Although biological crusts(biocrusts)grant stability to dust source areas by inhibiting dust emission,only a few models have explicitly considered their inhibitory *** this study,we used the China Meteorological Administration Unified Atmospheric Chemistry Environment/Dust model and combined retrieved biocrust information with two biocrust inhibition schemes(roughness length and biocrust strength schemes)to study numerically the inhibitory effect of biocrusts on a strong dust storm that occurred in Central and East Asia on 25−30 *** inhibitory effect of biocrusts on dust emission increased with biocrust *** total dust emission forecasted by the roughness length and biocrust strength schemes was reduced by approximately 56.7%and 47.9%on average,*** downstream sites in China,the surface mass concentrations of PM10 forecasted by the roughness length and biocrust strength schemes decreased by 36%–57%and 24%–41%,*** biocrusts were considered,the forecast for stations near the dust source area considerably improved and that for stations distant from the source area became more reasonable but with larger bias under the combined effects of emission,transport and deposition.

Molecularly imprinted polymers for highly sensitive detection of morphine using surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy

Molecular imprinting technology is applied in surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy for highly sensitive and selective detection of morphine（MO）.As SPR-based sensor of MO,the preparation of molecular imprinted polymer is as follows： methacryhc acids（MAA）,ethylene glycol dimethacrylate（EGDMA）,azodiisobutyronitrile（AIBN） were used as functional monomer,cross-linker and initiator,*** experiment results showed that morphine imprinted polymer had the performance of high sensitivity and specificity,*** relative signal of SPR response was proportional to the concentration of morphine in acetonitrile in the range of 10^（-9）mol/L to 10^（-6）mol/L（1 ppb-1 ppm） with LOD of 10^（-10）mol/L,and MO was distinguished from its analogs,such as codeine.

Dear Editor,Aquareovirus(ARV,Reoviridae)causes hemorrhagic disease in the economically important golden shiner and grass carp of America and China,respectively(Nason et al.,2000;Fang et al.,2005).Reoviridae members are characterized by endogenous transcription of their multipartite genomes within capsids of 1-3 layers and are further classified based on the presence(Spinareovirinae subfamily,9 genera)or absence(Sedoreovirinae subfamily,6 genera)of mRNA-capping turrets along the innermost layer(King et al.,2012).

Separation and Determination of Sulfur with Different Valance in Polysulfide Mixture

A new process of separating sulfur with different valance from polysulfide mixtures was developed. Sulfide, sulfite and sulfur were separated by adding acetic acid in one step. The polysulfide mixture, sulfite solution and sulfur were oxidized to sulfate by hydrogen peroxide. The products were measured by X ray Fluorescence Spectrometer(XRF) using filter method preparative specimen. The measurement needs only one set of standard *** effects of temperature and pH values on the separation were discussed. The results show that the recoveries range from 98.0% to 101.3% of sulfidic sulfur S( II), 97.0% to 103.0% for sulfite S(IV) and 98.4% to 100.4% for polysulfidic sulfur S(0).

Comparison of two methods for detection of fecal indicator bacteria used in water quality monitoring of the Three Gorges Reservoir

Scientifically sound methods to rapidly measure fecal indicator bacteria are important to ensure safe water for drinking and recreational purposes.A total of 200 water samples obtained from the Three Gorges Reservoir during three successive one-year study periods（October 2009 to September 2012） were analyzed using multiple-tube fermentation（MTF）and most probable numbers combined with polymerase chain reaction（MPN-PCR）.The MPN-PCR method was found to be significantly more sensitive than the MTF method for detecting Escherichia coli and Enterococcus spp.,and of equal sensitivity for detecting total coliforms when all surface water samples were grouped *** two analytical methods had a strong,significant relationship,but MPN-PCR took only 12-18 hr,compared with the 3-8 days needed using the MTF *** concentrations varied per sampling site but were significantly lower in the mainstream of the Yangtze River than those in the backwater areas of *** water quality of 85.8% of water samples from the mainstream was suitable for use as a centralized potable water source,while the water quality of 52.5% of water samples from the backwater areas was unsuitable for recreational *** between fecal indicator bacteria showed significant correlation（r = 0.636-0.909,p 〈 0.01,n = 200）,while a weak but significant correlation was found between fecal indicators and water turbidity,water temperature,daily inflow,and total dissolved solids（r = 0.237-0.532,p 〈 0.05,n = 200）.The study indicated that MPN-PCR is a rapid and easily performed deoxyribonucleic acid（DNA）-based method for quantitative detection of viable total coliforms,***,and Enterococcus *** surface water.

Indwelling catheter and conservative measures in the treatment of abdominal compartment syndrome in fulminant acute pancreatitis

AIM： To study the effect of combined indwelling catheter, hemofiltration, respiration support and traditional Chinese medicine （e.g. Dahuang） in treating abdominal compartment syndrome of fulminant acute pancreatitis. METHODS： Patients with fulminant acute pancreatitis were divided randomly into 2 groups of combined indwelling catheter celiac drainage and intra-abdominal pressure monitoring and routine conservative measures group （group 1） and control group （group 2）. Routine non-operative conservative treatments including hemofiltration, respiration support, gastrointestinal TCM ablution were also applied in control group patients. Effectiveness of the two groups was observed, and APACHE Ⅱ scores were applied for analysis. RESULTS： On the second and fifth days after treatment, APACHE Ⅱ scores of group 1 and 2 patients were significantly different. Comparison of effectiveness （abdominalgia and burbulence relief time, hospitalization time） between groups 1 and 2 showed significant difference, as well as incidence rates of cysts formation. Mortality rates of groups 1 and 2 were 10.0% and 20.7%, respectively. For patients in group 1, celiac drainage quantity and intra-abdominal pressure, and hospitalization time were positively correlated （r = 0.552, 0.748, 0.923, P 〈 0.01） with APACHE Ⅱ scores. CONCLUSION： Combined indwelling catheter celiac drainage and intra-abdominal pressure monitoring, short veno-venous hemofiltration （SVVH）, gastrointestinal TCM ablution, respiration support have preventive and treatment effects on abdominal compartment syndrome of fulminant acute pancreatitis.

LiPF6 and lithium difluoro(oxalato)borate/ethylene carbonate+dimethyl carbonate+ethyl(methyl)carbonate electrolyte for LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 cathode

LiODFB electrolyte’s compatibility with LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4high-voltage cathode material was studied by cyclic voltammetry, charge-discharge test and AC impedance. The results show that at 25 and 60 °C, the LiODFB-based electrolyte has better electrochemical stability than LiPF6. AC impedance plots show that the LiODFB battery has a lower charge-transfer resistance than LiPF6battery at 60 °C, which indicates that LiODFB battery has excellent cycling performance at high temperature. At 25 and 60 °C, the LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4/Li half cells with LiODFB or LiPF6as electrolyte all have simple redox peak, showing that each of them has an excellent reversibility. LiODFB battery has better cycle performance than LiPF6battery at 25 °C and 60 °C. At 25 °C, their 0.5C initial discharge specific capacities are 126.3 and 131.6 mA·h/g, and their capacity retention ratios of the 100th cycle are 97.1% and 94.7%, respectively. At 60 °C, their 0.5C initial discharge specific capacities are 132.6 and 129.1 mA·h/g, and their capacity retention ratios of the 100th cycle are 94.1% and 81.7%, respectively. © 2017, Central South University Press and Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany.
