Impact of Smoking Status on lipoprotein Subfractions： Data from an Untreated Chinese Cohort

Objective Cigarette smoking is one of the established risk factors of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, however, its impact on lipids is not completely understood, especially in the Chinese population. Therefore, this study evaluated the impact of smoking status （non, former, and current smoking） on the distribution of lipoprotein subfractions in untreated patients with angina-like chest pain. Methods A total of 877 patients were consecutively enrolled and divided into nonsmoking （n = 528）, former smoking （n = 103）, and current smoking （n = 256） groups. Both low- and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol （LDL-C and HDL-C） subfractions were measured using the Quantimetrix lipoprint System. The distributions of lipoprotein subfractions were evaluated among the groups. Results Compared with nonsmoking subjects, the current smoking group had significantly lower large/medium HDL-C （both P 〈 0.001） concentration and large HDL subfraction percentage but higher small HDL-C and medium LDL-C concentrations as well as medium LDL subfraction percentage. Importantly, former smoking subjects showed elevated levels of large HDL-C concentration, large HDL particle percentage, and mean LDL particle size and attenuation in small HDL/LDL percentages and small LDL-C concentration, but these levels did not reach the optimal status compared with those of the non-smoking group （data not shown）. Conclusion Smoking has an adverse impact on the lipoprotein subfractions, presented as lower large HDL particles besides higher small HDL and medium LDL particles, whereas smoking cessation could reverse these change to a certain degree.

Generating Proton Beams Exceeding 10 MeV Using High Contrast 60TW Laser

A prototype of a laser driven proton accelerator is built at Peking University. Protons exceeding IOMeV are accelerated from micrometer-thick aluminum targets irradiated by tightly focused laser pulse with 1.8 J energy and 30fs duration. The beam energy spectrum and charge distribution are measured by a Thomson parabola spectrometer and radiochromic fihn stacks. The sensitivity of proton cut-off energy to the focusing of the laser beam, the pulse duration, and the foil thickness are systematically investigated in the experiments. Stable proton beams have been produced with an optimized parameter set, providing a cornerstone for the future applications of laser accelerated protons.

Multicenter Evaluation of the Molecular line Probe Assay for Multidrug Resistant Mycobacterium Tuberculosis Detection in China

In order to evaluate the performance of a molecular Hain line probe assay （Hain LPA） for rapid detection of rifampicin and isoniazid resistance of Mycobocterium tuberculosis in China, 1612 smear positive patients were consecutively enrolled in this study. Smear positive sputum specimens were collected for Hain LPA and conventional drug susceptibility testing （DST）. The sensitivity and specificity of Hain LPA were analyzed by using conventional DST as golden reference. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value {PPV） and negative predictive value （NPV） for rifampicin resistance detection were 88.33%, 97.66%, 81.54%, and 98.62%, respectively. The sensitivity, specificity, PPV and NPV for isoniazid resistance detection were 80.25%, 98.07%, 87.25%, and 96.78%, respectively. These findings suggested that Hain LPA can be an effective method worthy of broader use in China.

Syncope belongs to the transient loss of consciousness(TLOC), characterized by a rapid onset, short duration, and spontaneous complete recovery. It is common in children and adolescents, accounting for 1% to 2% of emergency department *** syncope can seriously affect children's physical and mental health, learning ability and quality of life and sometimes cardiac syncope even poses a risk of sudden death. The present guideline for the diagnosis and treatment of syncope in children and adolescents was developed for guiding a better clinical management of pediatric syncope. Based on the globally recent development and the evidence-based data in China, 2018 Chinese Pediatric Cardiology Society(CPCS) guideline for diagnosis and treatment of syncope in children and adolescents was jointly prepared by the Pediatric Cardiology Society, Chinese Pediatric Society, Chinese Medical Association(CMA)/Committee on Pediatric Syncope, Pediatricians Branch, Chinese Medical Doctor Association(CMDA)/Committee on Pediatric Cardiology, Chinese College of Cardiovascular Physicians, Chinese Medical Doctor Association(CMDA)/Pediatric Cardiology Society, Beijing Pediatric Society, Beijing Medical Association(BMA). The present guideline includes the underlying diseases of syncope in children and adolescents, the diagnostic procedures, methodology and clinical significance of standing test and headup tilt test, the clinical diagnosis vasovagal syncope, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, orthostatic hypotension and orthostatic hypertension, and the treatment of syncope as well as follow-up.

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the safety profiles of Motherwort injection(MI).METHODS:A multi-center,prospective and drugderived hospital intensive monitoring method was conducted to assess the safety of MI in real world *** study was based on a very large population after the injection was approved and marketed in *** patients using the injection in participating hospitals were monitored to determine the incidence,pattern,severity and outcome of associated adverse ***:The post-marketing surveillance was performed in 10 094 female patients from April to December,*** incidence of adverse drug reactions(ADRs) was 0.79‰(8/10 094).Among the 8 patients,the reported adverse events mainly included systemic abnormalities,such as fever,chills and eyelid edema;skin and appendages disorders,such as pruritus and rash;gastrointestinal disorders,such as nausea,abdominal distension and pain;heart rate and rhythm disorders,such as palpitation and increased heart *** of these ADRs were mild in ***:In this study the ADRs incidence rate of MI is very low,which supports that it is generally safe for use in obstetric and gynecological ***,the total number of 8 ADRs recorded over a relatively short time span seems limited,and the low number of reports could not represent an absolute guarantee of safety.

中子辐射俘获反应在反应堆运行、核装置设计及核天体物理研究中起重要的作用.4πBaF_(2)探测装置有着高时间分辨能力、低中子灵敏度、高探测效率等优点,适合开展中子辐射俘获反应截面数据的测量.中国原子能科学研究院核数据重点实验室建立了伽马全吸收装置(Gamma total absorption facility,GTAF),该装置用28块六棱BaF_(2)晶体和12块五棱BaF_(2)晶体构成了外径25 cm,内径10 cm的球壳,覆盖了95.2%的立体角.利用GTAF在中国散裂中子源Back-n束线上,测量了197Au(n,γ)的反应截面数据.测量数据通过能量筛选、PSD方法、晶体多重性筛选进行了初步本底扣除,随后结合对^(nat)C及空样品的测量数据对本底进行了分析及扣除,获得了197Au俘获反应的产额,利用SAMMY程序拟合得到了^(197)Au在1—100 e V的共振能量、中子共振宽度和伽马共振宽度参数.实验测量结果与ENDF/B-VIII.0数据库符合良好,其共振参数存在一定差异,分析原因可能与GTAF能量分辨率、Back-n的中子能谱测量精度、以及实验本底扣除方法相关,这也是下一步工作的重点.

Venovenous bypass ahead of mobilization of the liver in orthotopic liver transplantation

BACKGROUND: To evaluate feasibility and safety of venovenous bypass prior to mobilization of the liver during orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT). METHODS: Fifty-four patients were classified into two groups. Group A consisted of 23 patients receiving OLT with classical venovenous bypass. Group B consisted of 31 patients who received a modified-procedure: venovenous bypass ahead of the mobilization of the liver during ULT. The blood loss, duration of venovenous bypass, cold ischemia time, anhepatic phase, and transfusion during operation in the two groups were compared. Complications after the operation were also compared between the two groups. RESULTS: The duration of venovenous bypass and cold ischemia time in group A were longer than those in group B [(99.78±21.36 min) vs (96.32±22.25 min) and (484.78±134.01 min) vs (443.15± 85.27 min)]. The anhepatic phase lasted for about 100 min averagely in the two groups. The volumes of blood loss and transfusion during the operation were larger in group A than in group B [(5096±4243 ml) vs (1726±1125 ml) and (3676±2938.74 ml) vs (1217.69±829.72 ml)]. Postoperative complications occurred in 26 patients of group A and in 19 patients of group B. CONCLUSION: This modified-procedure or venovenous bypass ahead of mobilization of the liver in OLT can reduce the blood loss during OLT and the incidence of postoperative complications without prolongation of the anhepatic phase and duration of venovenous bypass.

Protective effect of fu-qi granule on carbon tetrachloride-induced liver fibrosis in rats

AIM： To investigate the effcacy of fu-qi granule （FQG） on carbon tetrachloride （CCl4） induced liver fbrosis in rats and the underlying mechanisms. METHODS： Sixty rats were randomly divided into six groups： normal control group, CCl4 induced liver fbrosis group, AnluoHuaxianWan group and three treatment groups of FQG. Treatment of rats with intraperitoneal injection of carbon tetrachloride solution at 0.3 mL per 100 g body weigh twice a week for 8 wk. The normal control group the rats were given the media （olive oil） at the same time. In the frst 2 wk, rats were raised with feedstuff （80% corn meal, 20% lard, 0.5% cholesterol）. Serum samples were collected for alanine transaminase, aspartate aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, albumin, total protein assay and typical histopathological changes was observed in Hematoxylin-eosin staining sections. Smooth muscle alpha actin （α-SMA） was analyzed with immunohistochemistry. Mammalian target of rapamycin （mTOR） and hypoxia-inducible factor-1 （HIF-1α） expressions were detected by Western blot-ting. Tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinases-1 （TIMP-1） and matrix metalloproteinases-9 （MMP-9） were measured with semi-quantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain ***： FQG significantly reduced the serum levels of alanine transaminase, aspartate aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase and increased the serum contents of albumin, total protein in rats with liver fibrosis. Moreover, FQG promoted extracellular matrix degradation by increasing MMP-9 and inhibiting TIMP-1 and α-SMA. mTOR and HIF-1α expression in liver significantly decreased in the rats treated with FQG. CONCLUSION： The results indicated that FQG signi-fcantly reverse fbrosis induced by CCl4, which should be developed as a new and promising preparation for the prevention of liver fbrosis.
