Analysis of overload-based cascading failure in multilayer spatial networks

Many complex networks in real life are embedded in space and most infrastructure networks are interdependent,such as the power system and the transport *** this paper,we construct two cascading failure models on the multilayer spatial *** our research,the distance l between nodes within the layer obeys the exponential distribution P(l)~exp(-l/ζ),and the length r of dependency link between layers is defined according to node *** entropy approach is applied to analyze the spatial network structure and reflect the difference degree between *** metrics,namely dynamic network size and dynamic network entropy,are proposed to evaluate the spatial network robustness and *** the cascading failure process,the spatial network evolution is analyzed,and the numbers of failure nodes caused by different reasons are also counted,***,we discuss the factors affecting network *** demonstrate that the larger the values of average degree,the stronger the network *** the length r decreases,the network performs *** the probability p is small,asζdecreases,the network robustness becomes more *** p is large,the network robustness manifests better performance asζ*** results provide insight into enhancing the robustness,maintaining the stability,and adjusting the difference degree between nodes of the embedded spatiality systems.

Serum and Blister Fluid Pharmacokinetics of Amikacin in Severe Burn Patients

Objective: To characterize amikacin pharmacokinetics in serum and in blister fluid of severe burn patients to guide optimal treatment timing. Methods: Patients (N = 32) were divided into four groups based on amikacin administration timing and groups received drug minutes to hours after injury. In Groups A, B, C, and D, amikacin (400 mg, IV) was administered 3 - 4, 10, 20 and 30 h post burn injury, respectively (N = 8 for all groups). Next blister fluid and venous blood samples from 9 patients were obtained at 0, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 h after drug infusion. Amikacin concentrations were measured with a fluorescent polarization immunoassay and pharmacokinetics was deduced using DAS3.2.5. Statistical analyses performed with SPSS13.0. Results: Compared with normal values, t1/2z of amikacin from burn patients was shortened in serum but amikacin half-lives in blister fluid was significantly greater than serum half-life values (p < 0.05). Groups A and B had greater pharmacokinetic values at each time point, and Group D did not achieve antibacterial concentrations of amikacin. Conclusion: Early amikacin administration in severe burn patients offers greater concentrations of drug in serum and blister fluids.

Systematic study on the proton radioactivity of spherical proton emitters

In this study, based on a two-potential approach, we systematically investigated the proton radioactivity half-lives of spherical proton emitters with 69≤Z≤81 from the ground and/or isomeric state, choosing the nuclear potential to be a modified Woods–Saxon potential that contains the isospin effect of the daughter nucleus. It was found that the calculated half-lives could reproduce the experimental data well. Furthermore, we extended this model to predict the half-lives of 17 protonemitting candidates whose radioactivity is energetically allowed or observed but not yet quantified in NUBASE2020. For comparison, the unified fission model, Coulomb potential and proximity potential model, universal decay law for proton emission, and new Geiger–Nuttall law were also used. All the predicted results are consistent with each other.

Inflammasomes are essential complexes of innate immune system, which form the first line of host defense against pathogens. Mounting evidence accumulates that inflammasome signaling is highly correlated with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, there remains a significant gap in our understanding of the regulatory mechanism of inflammasome signaling. Combining mathematical modeling with experimental analysis of NLRP1b inflammasome signaling, we found that only the expression levels of caspase-1 and GSDMD have the potential to individually switch cell death modes. Reduction of caspase-1 or GSDMD switches cell death from pyroptosis to apoptosis. Caspase-1 and GSDMD present different thresholds and exert distinct pathway choices in switching death modes. Pyroptosis switches to apoptosis with an extremely low threshold level of caspase-1, but with a high threshold of GSDMD. Caspase-1-impaired cells employ ASC-caspase-8-dependent pathway for apoptosis, while GSDMD-impaired cells primarily utilize caspase-1-dependent pathway. Additionally, caspase-1 and GSDMD can severally ignite the cooccurrence of pyroptosis and apoptosis. Landscape topography unravels that the cooccurrence is dramatically different in caspase-1- and GSDMD-impaired cells. Besides pyroptosis state and apoptosis state, a potential new “coexisting” state in single cells is proposed when GSDMD acts as the driving force of the landscape. The “seesaw model” is therefore proposed, which can well describe the death states that are controlled by caspase-1 or GSDMD in single cells. Our study sheds new light on NLRP1b inflammasome signaling and uncovers the switching mechanisms among various death modes, providing potential clues to guide the development of more rational control strategies for diseases.

Molecular dynamics simulations of mechanical properties of epoxy-amine:Cross-linker type and degree of conversion effects

Molecular dynamics(MD)simulations are conducted to study the thermo-mechanical properties of a family of thermosetting *** crosslinked epoxy resin EPON862 with a series of cross-linkers is built and simulated under the polymer consistent force field(PCFF).Three types of curing agents(rigidity1,3-phenylenediamine(1,3-P),4,4-diaminodiphenylmethane(DDM),and phenol-formaldehyde-ethylenediamine(PFE))with different numbers of active sites are selected in the *** focus on the effects of the cross-linkers on thermo-mechanical properties such as density,glass transition temperature(T_(g)),elastic constants,and *** simulations show a significant increase in the Tg,Young’s modulus and yield stress with the increase in the degree of *** simulation results reveal that the mechanical properties of thermosetting polymers are strongly dependent on the molecular structures of the cross-linker and network topological properties,such as end-to-end distance,crosslinking density and degree of conversion.

Seismites in the Dasheng Group： New evidence of strong tectonic and earthquake activities of the Tanlu Fault Zone

More than 80 layers of seismites were recognized from the Early Cretaceous Dasheng Group in the Mazhan and Tancheng graben basins in the Tanlu Fault Zone, eastern China. The responsible seismic events took place about 110–100 Ma in the Early Cretaceous. The fault zone was affected at the time by strong tectonics, due to tension-related stretching and scattered squeezing by strike-slip faults. These tectonic activities induced a series of strong earthquakes with Richter magnitudes(M) of 5–8.5. The earthquakes affected saturated or semi-consolidated flood and lake sediments, and produced intra-layer deformations by several processes, including liquefaction, thixotropy, drop, faulting, cracking, filling and folding, which resulted in the formation of various soft-sediment deformation structures, such as dikes and veins of liquefied sand, liquefied breccias, liquefied homogeneous layers, load structures, flame structures, ball-and-pillow structures, boudinage, diapirs, fissure infillings, a giant conglomerate wedge, and syn-sedimentary faults. The seismites are new evidence of tectonic and seismic activities in the Tanlu Fault Zone during the Early Cretaceous; the series of strong seismic events that can be deduced from them must be considered as a response to the destruction of the North China Craton.

Clinical significance of combined determination of serum PGⅠ , PGⅡ and GAS for diagnosis of gastric cancer

To evaluate the clinical value of combined determination of serum PGⅠ, PGⅡ and GAS for early diag-nosis of gastric cancer, the serum levels of PGⅠ, PGⅡ and GAS in 190 healthy controls and 129 patients with gas-tric disorders were measured by RIA. The 129 patients include 68 cases of gastric cancer. The results showed that the serum levels of PGⅠ and PGⅠ/PGⅡ ratio in gastric cancer patients were obviously lower than those in healthy controls, while comparing with controls, the serum GAS levels were significantly higher. The diagnostic accuracy of the determinations for gastric cancer was evaluated by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. The area under the curve (AUC) levels of serum PGⅠ, PGⅠ/PGⅡ ratio and GAS were 0.833, 0.842 and 0.851, respec-tively. As serum PGⅠ or PGⅠ/PGⅡ ratio or GAS were combined, the sensitivity and specificity of determination for gastric cancer diagnosis were 94.2% and 73.4%, respectively. All these results indicated that the combined deter-mination of serum PGⅠ, PGⅡ and GAS levels may be used as a tool for primary screening of gastric cancer.

Ab initio calculations on oxygen vacancy defects in strained amorphous silica

The effects of uniaxial tensile strain on the structural and electronic properties of positively charged oxygen vacancy defects in amorphous silica(a-SiO2)are systematically investigated using ab-initio calculation based on density functional *** types of positively charged oxygen vacancy defects,namely the dimer,unpuckered,and puckered four-fold(4×),and puckered five-fold(5×)configurations have been *** is shown by the calculations that applying uniaxial tensile strain can lead to irreversible transitions of defect structures,which can be identified from the fluctuations of the curves of relative total energy versus *** by strain,a positively charged dimer configuration may relax into a puckered 5×configuration,and an unpuckered configuration may relax into either a puckered 4×configuration or a forward-oriented ***,the Fermi contacts of the defects remarkably increase and the defect levels shift under *** Fermi contacts of the puckered configurations also increase under strain to the values close to that of Eα′center in *** addition,it is shown by the calculations that the relaxation channels of the puckered configurations after electron recombination are sensitive to strain,that is,those configurations are more likely to relax into a two-fold coordinated Si structure or to hold a puckered structure under strain,both of which may raise up the thermodynamic charge-state transition levels of the defects into Si band *** strain induces more puckered configurations with the transition levels in Si band gap,it may facilitate directly the development of oxide charge accumulation and indirectly that of interface charge accumulation by promoting proton generation under ionization *** work sheds a light on understanding the strain effect on ionization damage at an atomic scale.

Effects of yttrium and zirconium additions on inclusions and mechanical properties of a reduced activation ferritic/martensitic steel

The effects of two alloying elements,i.e.,yttrium(Y)and zirconium(Zr),on the inclusion,microstructure,tensile property and impact toughness of reduced activation ferritic/martensitic(RAFM)steel are *** size and number of particles were determined by optical microscopy,and the particle types were examined by scanning electron *** size of?20% and?85% of the inclusions lied in the range of 0.5-1.0μm and 0.5-3.0μm,*** Y-and Y-Zr-containing specimens,the density of the fine inclusions,with a size less than 0.5μm,was found to be 1.06×10^17 and 9.82×10^16 m^-*** specimens were normalized at 1323 K for 30 min and tempered at 923 and 1023 K for 90 min,resulting in the formation of tempered martensite with M23C6 carbides and MX ***-containing RAFM steel tempered at 923 K formed M23C6 carbides and nano-sized carbides with Zr,conferring superior strength balance and impact *** yield strength of alloy reached 695 MPa,and a low ductile-brittle transition temperature of 238 K was maintained.
