The impact of preozonation on the coagulation of cellular organic matter produced by Microcystis aeruginosa and its toxin degradation

Ozonation pretreatment is typically implemented to improve algal cell coagulation. However, knowledge on the effect of ozonation on the characteristics and coagulation of associated algal organic matter, particularly cellular organic matter(cOM), which is extensively released during algal bloom decay, is limited. Hence, this study aimed to elucidate the impact of ozonation applied before the coagulation of dissolved cOM from the cyanobacteria Microcystis aeruginosa. Additionally, the degradation of microcystins(Mcs) naturally present in the cOM matrix was investigated. A range of ozone doses(0.1–1.0 mg O3/mg of dissolved organic carbon – DOc) and ozonation pH values(pH 5, 7 and 9) were tested, while aluminium and ferric sulphate coagulants were used for subsequent coagulation. Despite negligible cOM removal, ozonation itself eliminated Mcs, and a lower ozone dose was required when performing ozonation at acidic or neutral pH(0.4 mg O3/mg DOc at pH 5 and 7 compared to 0.8 mg O3/mg DOc at pH 9). Enhanced Mc degradation and a similar pattern of pH dependence were observed after preozonation-coagulation, whereas coagulation alone did not sufficiently remove Mcs. In contrast to the benefits of Mc depletion, preozonation using ≥0.4 mg O3/mg DOc decreased the coagulation efficiency(from 42%/48% to 28%–38%/41%–44% using Al/Fe-based coagulants), which was more severe with increasing ozone dosage. coagulation was also influenced by the preozonation pH, where pH 9 caused the lowest reduction in cOM removal. The results indicate that ozonation efficiently removes Mcs, but its employment before cOM coagulation is disputable due to the deterioration of coagulation.

An （a, d）-vertex-antimagic total labeling of G is a bijection f from V（G） t2 E（G） onto the set of consecutive integers 1, 2,... ,p ＋ q, such that the vertex-weights form an arithmetic progression with the initial term a and difference d, where the vertex-weight of x is the sum of the value f（x） assigned to the vertex x together with all values f（xy） assigned to edges xy incident to x. such labeling is called super if the smallest possible labels appear on the vertices. In this paper, we study the properties of such labelings and examine their existence for 2r-regular graphs when the difference d is 0, 1,..., r ＋ 1.

Large-scale permafrost degradation as a primary factor in Larix sibirica forest dieback in the Khentii massif,northern Mongolia

The objective of this study is to investigate the potential causes of widespread Larix sibirica *** observed in the Khentii massif of northern *** ratio of deadwood to living trees in affected stands in the Goricho region,the southernmost study site situated close to the Gobi Desert,was as high as 3.6:*** fluctuations monitored over 2 years using electrical impedance spectrometry revealed that the Goricho study site had higher soil moisture levels than the two less affected sites Barun Bayan and Dzun *** soil moisture was recorded in an area characterized by highly skeletal soils,ones with more than 35%by volume of rock fragments,and comparatively shallow soil horizons,from valley to *** layer of permafrost influencing hydrogeological processes is much deeper in the Goricho region compared to the undisturbed study *** analysis confirmed a significant number of dead *** on sites with developed *** forest stands,however damaged,grow in this region on well-drained scree slopes or on rocky *** mass mortality observed for *** may be directly linked to accelerated permafrost thaw in the area bordered by the Tuul and the Terelj *** assumption is that *** root system necrosis occurred as a result of long-term waterlogging of developed soils with high spatial heterogeneity,normally able to absorb high quantities of *** areas unaffected were scree fields and rocky bastions characterized by adequate *** of our findings support the primary stages of large-scale permafrost thaw,i.e.,correlating increases in soil moisture with increasing permafrost active layer thickness.

Objective: cinobufotalin (cINO), a cardiotonic steroid (cTs) or bufadienolide, is extracted from the skin secretions of giant toads and is utilized in traditional chinese medicine (chan su). cINO has been used as a cardiotonic, diuretic and a hemostatic agent. Recently, cINO has been shown to inhibit lung cancer cell function and has been implicated in several other disease processes. In this study, we pursued the potential anticancer application of cINO using the ovarian tumor cell line sK-ov-3. study Design: We evaluated the effect of cINO on cultures of sK-ov-3. cells were treated with 0.1, 0.5, 1, 5, and 10 μM cINO. cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and viability were measured using commercially available kits. cell cycle progression was evaluated by a cell cycle Phase Determination Kit. Apoptosis was evaluated by an Apoptotic Blebs Assay Kit;cell cycle arrest and apoptotic signaling were determined by fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FAcs) analysis. Results: cINO at ≥ 0.5 μM inhibited sKov-3 cell proliferation, migration, and invasion (p s a higher (p centage of s phase cells in groups treated with cINO at 0.5 μM. cINO at ≥ 0.5 μM down regulated expression of Proliferating cell Nuclear Antigen (PcNA) and caused cell death. conclusion: This data demonstrates that cINO impairs sK-ov-3 cell function via cell cycle arrest and apoptotic signaling, suggesting cINO be further investigated as a novel anti-ovarian cancer agent.
