Elevated brain temperature under severe heat exposure impairs cortical motor activity and executive function

Background:Excessive heat exposure can lead to hyperthermia in humans,which impairs physical performance and disrupts cognitive *** heat is a known physiological stressor,it is unclear how severe heat stress affects brain physiology and ***:Eleven healthy participants were subjected to heat stress from prolonged exercise or warm water immersion until their rectal temperatures(T_(re))attained 39.5℃,inducing exertional or passive hyperthermia,*** a separate trial,blended ice was ingested before and during exercise as a cooling *** were compared to a control condition with seated rest(normothermic).Brain temperature(T_(br)),cerebral perfusion,and task-based brain activity were assessed using magnetic resonance imaging ***:T_(br)in motor cortex was found to be tightly regulated at rest(37.3℃±0.4℃(mean±SD))despite fluctuations in T_(re).with the development of hyperthermia,T_(br)increases and dovetails with the rising T_(re).Bilateral motor cortical activity was suppressed during high-intensity plantarflexion tasks,implying a reduced central motor drive in hyperthermic participants(T_(re)=38.5℃±0.1℃).Global gray matter perfusion and regional perfusion in sensorimotor cortex were reduced with passive *** function was poorer under a passive hyperthermic state,and this could relate to compromised visual processing as indicated by the reduced activation of left lateral-occipital ***,ingestion of blended ice before and during exercise alleviated the rise in both T_(re)and T_(bc)and mitigated heat-related neural ***:Severe heat exposure elevates T_(br),disrupts motor cortical activity and executive function,and this can lead to impairment of physical and cognitive performance.

Selective photosynthesis of z-olefins through crystalline metal-organic cage-initiated expeditious cascade reactions

The semi-hydrogenation of alkyne to form z-olefins with high conversion and high selectivity is still a huge challenge in the chemical ***,flammable and explosive hydrogen as the common hydrogen source of this reaction increases the cost and danger of industrial ***,we connect the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction and the semihydrogenation reaction of alkynes in series and successfully realize the high selective production of z-alkenes using low-cost,safe,and green water as the proton *** the cascade reaction,a series of isomorphic metal–organic cage catalysts(Co_(x)zn_(8−x)L_(6),x=0,3,4,5,and 8)are designed and synthesized to improve the yield of the photocatalytic hydrogen *** them,Co_(5)zn_(3)L_(6) shows the highest photocatalytic activity,with a H_(2) generation rate of 8.81 mmol g^(−1) h^(−1).Then,Co_(5)zn_(3)L_(6) is further applied in the above tandem reaction to efficiently reduce alkynes to z-alkenes under ambient conditions,which can reach high conversion of>98%and high selectivity of>99%,and maintain original catalytic activity after multiple ***“one-pot”tandem reaction can achieve a highly selective and safe stepwise conversion from water into hydrogen into z-olefins under mild reaction conditions.

A compact bimorph rotary piezoelectric actuator with customized small power supply

Inertial piezoelectric actuators are widely applied in precision devices with simple structure and accurate ***,existing inertial piezoelectric actuators still face the challenges of rollback motion and bulky power *** this work,an alternate excitation strategy and a customized small power supply for a bimorph rotary piezoelectric actuator(BRPA)are proposed to solve the *** BRPA prototype is designed with a bipedal symmetrical structure,measuring 35 mm in height and 32 mm in diameter,which has a maximum rotation velocity of 0.247 rad/s and a resolution of 0.66μ*** to the bipedal symmetrical structure,the friction directions between the driving feet and the rotor can be coordinated to suppress the *** rollback ratio is almost zero when the phase difference of the exciting signal is set as 180°.The customized power supply is designed and manufactured,whose size is 58 mm×56 mm×46 *** can output signals for the single step mode and the continuous mode,and they are adopted to excite BRPA to achieve a small stroke with one single step and a large stroke with continuous step,***,an experimental system for optical fiber alignment is developed based on the BRPA and the customized small power supply,the experiment has verified the practicability of this work in the precision fields,especially in the miniaturized precision systems.

Localization−delocalization transitions in non-Hermitian Aharonov−Bohm cages

A unique feature of non-Hermitian systems is the extreme sensitivity of the eigenspectrum to boundary conditions with the emergence of the non-Hermitian skin effect (NHSE). A NHSE originates from the point-gap topology of complex eigenspectrum, where an extensive number of eigenstates are anomalously localized at the boundary driven by nonreciprocal dissipation. Two different approaches to create localization are disorder and flat-band spectrum, and their interplay can lead to the anomalous inverse Anderson localization, where the Bernoulli anti-symmetric disorder induces mobility in a full-flat band system in the presence of Aharonov−Bohm (AB) Cage. In this work, we study the localization−delocalization transitions due to the interplay of the point-gap topology, flat band and correlated disorder in the one-dimensional rhombic lattice, where both its Hermitian and non-Hermitian structures show AB cage in the presence of magnetic flux. Although it remains the coexistence of localization and delocalization for the Hermitian rhombic lattice in the presence of the random anti-symmetric disorder, it surprisingly becomes complete delocalization, accompanied by the emergence of NHSE. To further study the effects from the Bernoulli anti-symmetric disorder, we found the similar NHSE due to the interplay of the point-gap topology, correlated disorder and flat bands. Our anomalous localization−delocalization property can be experimentally tested in the classical physical platform, such as electrical circuit.

Colorectal cancer is a term used to describe colon and rectal cancer,which is the third most common type of cancer.A MEDLINE and PubMed search resulted in the inclusion of manuscripts written in the last 10 years,using keywords relevant to the topic of the *** analyzing the aim of the searched studies and manuscripts,adequate articles were included that described the stated *** frequency of colorectal cancer varies with climate,nutrition,and many other factors,primarily endogenous,hereditary,intestinal microbiome,as well as external factors,such as exposure of the individual to stress,and bad eating *** cancer and rectal cancer or colorectal cancer in general in the early stages of the disease,may not show symptoms or are barely *** cancer symptoms will most often not develop until the disease has progressed to stage 2 or *** screening tests for colon or rectal cancer,especially colonoscopy,are recommended as part of a regular checkup for people aged 50 years or younger who are at high risk due to a family history of the disease or other *** and colonoscopy as an early screening method play an important role in the prevention of colorectal cancer.

Effects of multiple shapes for steady flow with transformer oil+Fe_(3)O_(4)+TiO_(2) between two stretchable rotating disks

In this study,we examine the effects of various shapes of nanoparticles in a steady flow of hybrid nanofluids between two stretchable rotating *** steady flow of hybrid nanofluids with transformer oil as the base fluid and Fe_(3)O_(4)+TiO_(2)as the hybrid nanofluid is *** shapes of Fe_(3)O_(4)+TiO_(2)hybrid nanofluids,including sphere,brick,blade,cylinder,and platelet,are *** shape exists in the same volume of a *** leading equations(partial differential equations(PDEs))are transformed to the nonlinear ordinary differential equations(ODEs)with the help of similarity *** system of equations takes the form of ODEs depending on the boundary conditions,whose solutions are computed numerically by the bvp4c MATLAB *** outputs are compared with the previous findings,and an intriguing pattern is discovered,such that the tangential velocity is increased for the rotation parameter,while it is decreased by the stretching values because of the lower *** the reaction rate parameter,the concentration boundary layer becomes shorter,and the activation energy component increases the rate at which mass transfers come to the higher disk but have the opposite effect on the bottom *** ranges of various parameters taken into account are Pr=6.2,Re=2,M=1.0,φ_(1)=φ_(2)=0.03,K=0.5,S=-0.1,Br=0.3,Sc=2.0,α_(1)=0.2,γ=0.1,E_(n)=2.0,and q=1.0,and the rotation factor K is within the range of 0 to 1.

Four Late-type Galaxies with Double Radio Lobes and Properties of Such Galaxies

The triggering mechanism for radio lobes from late-type galaxies is not fully *** samples are desired for a thorough investigation and *** utilizing the optical data from the newly released Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument imaging surveys and the radio sources from the NRAO VLA Sky Survey and the Faint Images of the Radio Sky at Twenty-centimeter,we identify four Late-type Galaxies with double Radio Lobes(La GRLs):J0217-3645,J0947+6220,J1412+3723 and J1736+*** previously known La GRLs,we confirm the correlation between radio power P_(1.4GHz)and stellar mass M_(*)of host ***(25/35)La GRLs belong to the blue cloud galaxies,while the newly identified cases in this work are located within the region of the red *** find a clear correlation between the differential radio power,i.e.,the offset from the P_(1.4GHz)-M_(*)relation,and the galaxy color,indicating that bluer galaxies at a fixed M_(*)tend to host more powerful radio ***,the majority(31/36)of La GRLs are either located in a galaxy group or displaying a disturbed *** suggest that all of the galaxy mass,color and surrounding environment could play important roles in triggering radio lobes in late-type galaxies.

Identification of the optimal doping position of hetero-atoms in chalcogen-doped Fe-N-C catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction

The excellent oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)activity of Fe–N–C catalysts in acidic media makes them potential for low-cost proton exchange membrane fuel *** recent years,it has been shown that heteroatoms(B,O,S,P,Cl,F,etc.)can be used as electron-withdrawing groups to modulate the planar structure and electron distribution of the Fe–Nx active sites to achieve simultaneous improvement of catalytic activity and ***,the optimal location of the heteroatoms remains ***,taking chalcogen heteroatoms(S and Se)as an example,we control the doping positions and investigate their effect on the ORR performance of the Fe–N–C *** first coordination shell of the iron single atom is identified as the optimal doping *** optimized catalysts Fe–N_(3)Se_(1)/NC and Fe–N_(3)Se_(1)/NC demonstrate improved activity and stability in both half cells and fuel *** work provides insights into the enhancement mechanism of heteroatom doping in single-atom catalysts.

This study presents a rapid and versatile low-cost sample-to-answer system for SARS-CoV-2 *** system integrates the extraction and purification of nucleic acids,followed by amplification via either reverse transcriptionquantitative polymerase chain reaction(RT–qPCR)or reverse transcription loop-mediated isothermal amplification(RT–LAMP).By meeting diverse diagnostic and reagent needs,the platform yields testing results that closely align with those of commercial RT-LAMP and RT‒qPCR *** advantages of our system include its speed and *** assay is completed within 28 min,including sample loading(5 min),ribonucleic acid(RNA)extraction(3 min),and RT-LAMP(20 min).The cost of each assay is≈$9.5,and this pricing is competitive against that of Food and Drug Administration(FDA)-approved commercial *** some RNA loss during on-chip extraction is observed,the platform maintains a potential limit of detection lower than 297 *** makes the system particularly useful in environments where centralized laboratories are either unavailable or inconveniently *** key feature is the platform’s versatility,allowing users to choose between RT‒qPCR or RT‒LAMP tests based on specific requirements.
