Distribution of Cu, zn, Pb, Cr, Ni, Mn concentrations and the activity of polonium-210 in the surrounding area of a phosphate fertilizer industry located on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea has been determined. Nineteen sampling sites were distributed around the industrial zone on a surface area of about 100,000 m^2. Atomic absorption spectroscopy and Alpha spectroscopy were used to quantify the heavy elements and polonium-210, respectively. Investigation on a particle scale was conducted by TEM and SEM coupled to EDX and X-ray cartography to determine the nature of heavy elements carriers and their distribution. Heavy elements were mainly concentrated inside the particle size fraction 〈 50 μm. Their levels decreased with distance increasing from the industry. According to the reference soil, enrichment factors were about 10, 15, 32 and 100 times for zn, Pb, Cu, and Cr, respectively inside the particle size fraction 〈 50 μm on the closest sites to the industry. The main contaminant sources were transport and storage of row materials and the free release of phosphogypsum waste. Heavy elements were entrapped inside agglomerates of sulfates, phosphates and iron oxihydroxides in a diffused shape. Polonium-210 with an enrichment factor of about 56, showed the same behavior of the spatial distribution of the trace elements.

In continuation of our recent report on molybdates [Appl. Phys. A 124, 44(2018)], the structural, electronic, elastic,and optical properties of zMoO3(z = Ba and Sr) molybdates are investigated under pressure(10 GPa–50 GPa) comprehensively by deploying the density functional theory. Our investigations show that the studied compounds exhibit stable cubic phase with metallic attributes. The thermodynamic parameters such as enthalpy of formation, Debye, and melting temperatures of the compounds are observed to increase with pressure. While the Gr¨uninsen parameter and the coefficient of super-plastic deformation decrease as the pressure increases. Mechanical properties elucidate an increase in measured values of hardness, bulk, shear, and young’s moduli with pressure. Our results suggest that the studied compounds are useful in high pressure optoelectronic devices. The optical properties of BaMoO3(BMO) and SrMoO3(SMO) are computed for the radiation of up to 35 eV. The present compounds show beneficial optical applications in the anti-reflection coating,lenses, and the high avoiding solar heating applications in the variant applied pressure.

Accurate fitting formulae to the synchrotron function, F（x）, and its com- plementary function, G（x）, are performed and presented. The corresponding relative errors are less than 0.26% and 0.035% for F（x） and G（x）, respectively. To this end we have, first, fitted the modified Bessel functions, Ks/3（x） and K2/3（x）. For all the fitted functions, the general fit expression is the same, and is based on the well known asymptotic forms for low and large values of z for each function. It consists of multi- plying each asymptotic form by a function that tends to unity or zero for low and large values of z. Simple formulae are suggested in this paper, depending on adjustable parameters. The latter have been determined by adopting the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm. The proposed formulae should be of great utility and simplicity for com- puting spectral powers and the degree of polarization for synchrotron radiation, both for laboratory and astrophysical applications.

Urban sprawl is threatening the limited highly fertile land in the Nile delta of Egypt. Landsat TM satellite images of 1984, 1992 and ETM+ of 2006 have been used to study the impact of urban sprawl on agricultural land of the Northern Nile delta, Egypt. Visual interpretation using on screen digitizing and change detection techniques were applied for monitoring the urban sprawl. Combining the land capability map and the urban thematic layer using GIS made it possible to point out the risk of urban expansion on the expense of the highly capable soil class. The results show that a total expansion of urban area amounted to 689.20 km2(6.3% of total area) during the study period 1984–2006. The urban expansion during the 1984–2006 was on the expense of the most fertile soils where, the high capable soils(Class I) lost 247.14 km2(2.26 % of total area) and the moderate capable soils lost 32.73 km2(0.3% of total area), while the low capable soils lost only 57.39 km2(0.53% of total area). The urban encroachment over the non capable soils was very limited during the study period 1984–1992, where 7.33 km2 only was lost. The pattern of urban sprawl has been changed during the 1992 to 2006 whereas much larger area(50.64 km2) of the non capable soils was converted to urban. It can be concluded that the urban sprawl is one of the dominant degradation process on the land of Nile Delta.

An Adaptive Full Order Sliding Mode Controller for Mismatched Uncertain Systems

In this paper, an adaptive full order sliding mode （FOSM） controller is proposed for strict feedback nonlinear systems with mismatched uncertainties. The design objective of the controller is to track a specified trajectory in presence of significant mismatched uncertainties. In the first step the dynamic model for the first state is considered by the desired tracking signal. After the first step the desired dynamic model for each state is defined by the previous one. An adaptive tuning law is developed for the FOSM controller to deal with the bounded system uncertainty. The major advantages offered by this adaptive FOSM controller are that advanced knowledge about the upper bound of the system uncertainties is not a necessary requirement and the proposed method is an effective solution for the chattering elimination from the control signal. The controller is designed considering the full-order sliding surface. System robustness and the stability of the controller are proved by using the Lyapunov technique. A systematic adaptive step by step design method using the full order sliding surface for mismatched nonlinear systems is presented, Simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed control law.

Non-equilibrium solidification structures of Cu55Ni45 and Cu55Ni43Co2 alloys were prepared by the molten glass purification cycle superheating *** variation of the recalescence phenomenon with the degree of undercooling in the rapid solidification process was investigated using an infrared *** addition of the Co element affected the evolution of the recalescence phenomenon in Cu-Ni *** images of the solid-liquid interface migration during the rapid solidification of supercooled melts were captured by using a high-speed *** solidification rate of Cu-Ni alloys,with the addition of Co elements,was ***,the grain refinement structure with low supercooling was characterised using electron backscatter diffraction(EBSD).The effect of Co on the microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of Cu-Ni alloys under conditions of small supercooling is investigated by comparing the microstructures of Cu55Ni45 and Cu55Ni43Co2 *** experimental results show that the addition of a small amount of Co weakens the recalescence behaviour of the Cu55Ni45 alloy and significantly reduces the thermal strain in the rapid solidification *** the rapid solidification phase,the thermal strain is greatly reduced,and there is a significant increase in the characteristic undercooling ***,the addition of Co and the reduction of Cu not only result in a lower solidification rate of the alloy,but also contribute to the homogenisation of the grain size.

This paper presents a quasi-z-source based isolated bidirectional DC-DC converter(qzIBDC)for renewable energy *** converter utilizes a dual active bridge circuit with a quasi-z-source network on both sides,so the converter works as buck/boost converter from either *** has a wider input/output voltage operating range,soft-switching capabilities without additional devices,and higher boost capability than a traditional dual active bridge *** from that,shoot-through states are incorporated in its operating cycle to boost the input voltage resulting in high reliability of the proposed *** to the symmetrical structure of the circuit,there is no defined high voltage or low voltage side as in traditional isolated bidirectional DC-DC *** operating principle and control strategy of the proposed converter are *** and experimental results are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed converter topology and its control strategy.

Biometric recognition refers to the identification of individuals through their unique behavioral features(e.g.,fingerprint,face,and iris).We need distinguishing characteristics to identify people,such as fingerprints,which are world-renowned as the most reliablemethod to identify *** recognition of fingerprints has become a standard procedure in forensics,and different techniques are available for this *** current techniques lack interest in image enhancement and rely on high-dimensional features to generate classification ***,we proposed an effective fingerprint classification method for classifying the fingerprint image as authentic or altered since criminals and hackers routinely change their fingerprints to generate fake *** order to improve fingerprint classification accuracy,our proposed method used the most effective texture features and *** Analysis(DCA)and Gaussian Discriminant Analysis(GDA)are employed as classifiers,along with Histogram of Oriented Gradient(HOG)and Segmentation-based Feature Texture Analysis(SFTA)feature vectors as *** performance of the classifiers is determined by assessing a range of feature sets,and the most accurate results are *** proposed method is tested using a Sokoto Coventry Fingerprint Dataset(SOCOFing).The SOCOFing project includes 6,000 fingerprint images collected from 600 African people whose fingerprints were taken ten *** distinct degrees of obliteration,central rotation,and z-cut have been performed to obtain synthetically altered replicas of the genuine *** proposal achieved massive success with a classification accuracy reaching 99%.The experimental results indicate that the proposed method for fingerprint classification is feasible and *** experiments also showed that the proposed SFTA-based GDA method outperformed state-of-art approaches in feature dimension and classification accuracy.
