Clinical features and progress of ischemic gastritis with high fatalities: Seven case reports

BACKGROUND Ischemic gastritis is a clinically rare and highly fatal disease that occurs when the hemodynamics of a patient with vascular risk is *** diagnosis and treatment are possible only with upper endoscopy after symptom *** report seven cases of ischemic gastritis and its clinical features,prognosis,and indicators that may help in early *** SUMMARY Of the seven patients,six had vascular risk and five died within 2 wk of *** symptoms included hematemesis and *** surgery is a choice for radical treatment,not all patients were *** such patients,conservative treatment was selected,but all of them *** contrast,patients who underwent repeat endoscopy showed improved mucosal findings,suggesting that this improvement may not affect *** ischemic changes such as wall thickening,mural emphysema,and fluid retention in the stomach were observed before diagnosis through endoscopy and computed tomography(CT).The CT scan can be effective for early detection,and improvement in circulatory failure and aggressive treatment may save the lives of patients with this *** The characteristic CT findings enable early detection of ischemic *** diagnosis increases the chance of survival if early therapeutic intervention and improvement of circulatory dynamics can be achieved in this highly fatal disease.

Analysis of hepcidin expression: In situ hybridization and quantitative polymerase chain reaction from paraffin sections

AIM: To establish methods for quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for hepcidin using RNAs isolated from paraffin-embedded sections and in situ hybridization of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS: Total RNA from paraffin-embedded sections was isolated from 68 paraffin-embedded samples of HCC. Samples came from 54 male and 14 female patients with a mean age of 66.8 ± 7.8 years. Quantitative PCR was performed. Immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization for hepcidin were also performed. RESULTS: Quantitative PCR for hepcidin using RNAs isolated from paraffin-embedded sections of HCC was performed successfully. The expression level of hepcidin mRNA in cancer tissues was significantly higher than that in non-cancer tissues. A method of in situ hybridization for hepcidin was established successfully, and this demonstrated that hepcidin mRNA was expressed in non-cancerous tissue but absent in cancerous tissue. CONCLUSION: We have established novel methods for quantitative PCR for hepcidin using RNAs isolated from paraffin-embedded sections and in situ hybridization of HCC.

Common bile duct stones are among the most common conditions encountered by ***,it is well researched;however,some items,such as indications for endoscopic papillary balloon dilatation(EPBD),safety of EPBD and endoscopic sphincterotomy in patients receiving dual antiplatelet therapy or direct oral anticoagulant,selection strategy for retrieval balloons and baskets,lack adequate ***,the guidelines have been updated with new research,while others remain unchanged due to weak *** this review,we comprehensively summarize the standard methods in guidelines and new findings from recent studies on papillary dilation,stone retrieval devices,difficult-to-treat cases,troubleshooting during the procedure,and complicated cases of cholangitis,cholecystolithiasis,or distal biliary stricture.

Gastrectomy for patients with gastric cancer and non-uremic renal failure

AIM： To investigate the safety and outcome of gastrectomy for patients with gastric cancer and nonuremic renal failure （NURF）.METHODS： One hundred forty-seven patients who underwent gastrectomy for carcinoma were retrospectively divided into two groups： a group with Ccr values of ≥ 50 mL/min （Group 1, n = 110）, and one with Ccr values of ≥ 20 to 〈 50 mL/min （Group 2, n = 37）. Preoperative patient characteristics, intraoperative parameters （including operation time and blood loss）, and postoperative management and complications were evaluated.RESULTS： There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in operation time （297.9 rnin vs 272.6 rnin, P = 0.137） or blood loss （435 rnL vs 428 rnL, P = 0.078）. The differences in postoperative complications and hospital stay between the groups were not statistically significant. None of the patients in Group 2 required dialysis therapy, and no patients died due to gastrectorny or gastrectorny-related causes. The overall 4-year survival rates in Groups 1 and 2 were 86.6% and 81.8%, respectively （P = 0.48）, and the corresponding 4-year disease-free survival rates for stage I, I, and Ⅲ patients were 88.7% and 83.5%, respectively （P = 0.65）.CONCLUSION： Gastrectomy can be performed as safely in patients with NURF similar to patients with normal renal function.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma is speculated to become the second leading cause of cancer-related mortality by 2030,a high mortality rate considering the number of *** and chemotherapy are the main treatment options,but they are burdensome for patients.A clear histological diagnosis is needed to determine a treatment plan,and endoscopic ultrasound(EUS)-guided tissue acquisition(TA)is a suitable technique that does not worsen the cancer-specific prognosis even for lesions at risk of needle tract *** the development of personalized medicine and precision treatment,there has been an increasing demand to increase cell counts and collect specimens while preserving tissue structure,leading to the development of the fine-needle biopsy(FNB)***-FNB is rapidly replacing EUS-guided fine-needle aspiration(FNA)as the procedure of choice for EUS-TA of pancreatic ***,EUS-FNA is sometimes necessary where the FNB needle cannot penetrate small hard lesions,so it is important clinicians are familiar with *** these recent developments,we present an up-to-date review of the role of EUS-TA in pancreatic ***,technical aspects,such as needle caliber,negative pressure,and puncture methods,for obtaining an adequate specimen in EUS-TA are discussed.

To understand rice types that were utilized during postdomestication and in the modern age and the potential of genetic research in aged rice materials,archaeogenetic analysis was conducted for two populations of archaic rice grains from the Mojiaoshan site during the Liangzhu Period in China(2940 to 2840 BC).Sequencing after the PCR amplification of three regions of the chloroplast genome and one region of the nuclear genome showed recovery rates that were comparable to those in previous studies except for one chloroplast genome region,suggesting that the materials used in this work were appropriate for recovering genetic information related to domestication traits by using advanced *** after sequencing in these regions proved the existence of Japonica and Indica chloroplasts in archaic grains from the west trench,which were subsequently classified into eight plastid groups(type I–VIII),and indicated that these rice grains derived from different maternal lineages were stored together in storage houses at the Mojiaohsan *** these plastid groups,type V exhibited the same sequences as two modern Indica accessions that are utilized in basic studies and rice *** was inferred that part of the chloroplast genome of archaic rice has been preserved in modern genetic resources in these two modern Indica accessions,and the results indicated that rice related to their maternal ancestor was present at the Mojiaoshan site during the Liangzhu Period in *** usefulness of archaeogenetic analysis can be demonstrated by our research data as well as previous studies,providing encouragement for the possibility that archaeogenetic analysis can be applied to older rice materials that were utilized in the rice-domesticated period.

[1]During the period 22-28 July 2004,three geomagnetic storms occurred due to a sequence of coronal mass *** this paper we present and discuss the ionospheric observations from a set of in situ satellites and ground-based GPS total electron content and scintillation receivers,a VHF radar,and two chains of ionosondes(～300°E and～120°E, respectively) that provide the evolutionary characteristics of equatorial and low-latitude ionospheric irregularities versus longitude during these storm *** is found that the irregularities occurred over a wide longitudinal range,extending from around 300°E to 120°E on storm days 25 and 27 July *** 25 July plasma bubbles(PBs) began premidnight in America and postmidnight in Southeast *** 27 July the occurrence of irregularities followed the sunset terminator and was observed sequentially after sunset from American to Southeast Asian *** studies have reported that storm-time low-latitude ionospheric irregularities are mostly confined to a narrower longitude range,<90°,after sunset hours and are associated with the prompt penetration of eastward electric fields(PPEFs) into low *** June solstice months the occurrence of range-type spread F or PBs is very low in Southeast Asian and South American *** contrast,the present results indicate that geomagnetic storms triggered the wide longitudinal development of *** the American sector this was probably due to the effects of PPEFs on both storm ***,in the Southeast Asian sector the PBs on the 2 days probably arose from disturbance dynamo electric field(DDEF),PPEF,and gravity wave seeding *** study further shows that under complex storm conditions, besides the long duration or multiple penetrations,the combined effects of PPEFs and DDEFs could result in a wide longitude extent of ionospheric irregularities at times.

Suppressive Effects of Traditional Mulching Using Japanese Knotweed(Fallopia japonica)on Solanaceae Crop Diseases

Poaceae plant species,such as silver grass,are commonly used in mulching activities *** contrast,local farmers have traditionally used Japanese knotweed(Fallopia japonica)mulch in the cultivation of solanaceous crops in the Nishi-Awa area of Japan,which is a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems *** have previously evaluated the positive effects of Japanese knotweed mulching on solanaceous crops,such as eggplants,tomato,and *** the present study,we observed that the naturally occurring diseases in the solanaceous crops tended to decrease when the knotweed mulching system was adopted,in comparison to when Poaceae mulch was *** eggplants,leaf mold and powdery mildew decreased under Japanese knotweed *** further evaluated the effects of Japanese knotweed mulching by inoculating test plants with Pseudomonas *** observed suppression of bacterial disease and tomato mosaic virus under Japanese knotweed mulching and following spraying with Japanese knotweed *** addition,disease-resistance genes were expressed at high levels in Arabidopsis thaliana,a model plant,following treatment with Japanese knotweed *** results suggest that Japanese knotweed has potential applications in future sustainable agriculture activities.

Three cases of retroperitoneal schwannoma diagnosed by EUS-FNA

Schwannomas are peripheral nerve tumors that are typically solitary and *** diagnosis is largely based on surgically resected ***,a number of case reports have indicated that retroperitoneal schwannomas could be diagnosed with endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA).We report the diagnosis of three cases of schwannoma using *** were two males and one female,ages 22,40,and 46 years,respectively,all of whom were *** findings showed well-circumscribed round ***,as the tumors could not be diagnosed using these findings alone,EUS-FNA was ***-eosin staining of the resulting tissue fragments revealed bland spindle cells with nuclear *** was no disparity in nuclear *** revealed S-100 protein positivity and all cases were diagnosed as ***-67 indexes were 3%-15%,2%-3%,and 3%,*** case showed any signs of *** most schwannomas are benign tumors and seldom become malignant,we observed these patients without *** tumors demonstrated no enlargement and no change in *** are almost always benign and can be observed following diagnosis by EUS-FNA.
