Many patients with neurodegenerative diseases,such as Alzheimer’s(AD)and Parkinson’s(PD)diseases suffer from disease progression without any satisfying clinical intervention,likely due to our lack of knowledge on how normal aging impacts the pathogenic mechanisms of these debilitating diseases.A growing body of literature has emerged in recent years that clearly demonstrates the involvement of glycolipids in the protein-oligomerization of neurodegenerative disorders.We hypothesize that changes in glycolipids composition are a common mechanism underlying the shift from healthy brain aging to the neuropathological processes of neurodegenerative diseases.

X-ray CT scanners,due to the transmissive nature of X-rays,have enabled the non-destructive evaluation of industrial products,even inside their bodies.In light of its effectiveness,this study introduces a new approach to accelerate the inspection of many mechanical parts with the same shape in a bin.The input to this problem is a volumetric image(i.e.,CT volume)of many parts obtained by a single CT scan.We need to segment the parts in the volume to inspect each of them;however,random postures and dense contacts of the parts prohibit part segmentation using traditional template matching.To address this problem,we convert both the scanned volumetric images of the template and the binned parts to simpler graph structures and solve a subgraph matching problem to segment the parts.We perform a distance transform to convert the CT volume into a distance field.Then,we construct a graph based on Morse theory,in which graph nodes are located at the extremum points of the distance field.The experimental evaluation demonstrates that our fully automatic approach can detect target parts appropriately,even for a heap of 50 parts.Moreover,the overall computation can be performed in approximately 30 min for a large CT volume of approximately 2000×2000×1000 voxels.

A contract theory analysis to fiscal relations between the central and local governments in China

We use a contract theory/mechanism design framework to analyse the fiscal relations and reforms between the central and local governments in China,which are said to have made great contributions to economic growth since the‘economic reform’.First,we present the mechanism(a fiscal incentive contract model),which has created incentives for the development agent(local government),and clarify theoretically how the concept of bao(contract)works.We then comprehend the concept of bisai(contest)within the framework of the yardstick competition between local governments,and review the mechanism which encourages proper information revelation through intergovernmental comparison and competition.Lastly,we make a theoretical comparative analysis on the fiscal system reform(from the fiscal contracting system to the tax sharing system),from the perspective of how much room was left for the‘ratchet effect’in the dynamic relation between the central and local governments,and how it was solved(or mitigated)in the two fiscal systems.

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is the most common type of primary liver cancer originating from hepatocytes,whereas intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma(ICC)occurs in parts of the bile ducts within the liver and is the second most common primary malignant liver tumor.Extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma develops in the bile ducts outside the liver and includes hilar and distal bile duct cancers.

AIM: To observe the regional distributions and morphological features of nesfatin-1/nucleobindin-2 (NUCB2) immunoreactive (IR) cells in the rodent digestive system. METHODS: Paraffin-embedded sections of seven organs (pancreas, stomach, duodenum, esophagus, liver, small intestine and colon) dissected from sprague-dawley (SD) rats and institute of Cancer Research (ICR) mice were prepared. The regional distributions of nesfatin-1/NUCB2 IR cells were observed by immunohistochemical staining. The morphological features of the nesfatin-1/NUCB2 IR cells were evaluated by hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining. Fresh tissues of the seven organs were prepared for Western blotting to analyze the relative protein levels of NUCB2 in each organ.RESULTS: Immunohistochemical staining showed that the nesfatin-1/NUCB2 IR cells were localized in the central part of the pancreatic islets, the lower third and middle portion of the gastric mucosal gland, and the submucous layer of the duodenum in SD rats and ICR mice. HE staining revealed that the morphological features of nesfatin-1/NUCB2 IR cells were mainly islet cells in the pancreas, endocrine cells in the stomach, and Brunner’s glands in the duodenum. Western blotting revealed that NUCB2 protein expression was higher in the pancreas, stomach and duodenum than in the esophagus, liver, small intestine and colon (P = 0.000). CONCLUSION: Nesfatin-1/NUCB2 IR cells are expressed in the pancreas, stomach and duodenum in rodents. These cells may play an important role in the physiological regulation of carbohydrate metabolism, gastrointestinal function and nutrient absorption.

Background Infectious diseases are common in pediatric patients.In these patients,ultrasound is a useful imaging modality that involves no irradiation or sedation and can be performed repeatedly at the patient's bedside.The purpose of this review was to show pediatric cases with infectious disease that used ultrasound to decide the methods of treatment.Data sources Literature review was performed using Pubmed as the medical database source.No year-of-publication restric-tion was placed.The mesh terms used were:"ultrasound","sonography","infectious disease","treatment","antibiotics","surgical intervention","pediatric","children","deep neck abscess","pyothorax","empyema","pneumonia","urinary tract infection","intra-abdominal abscess","soft tissue infection","septic arthritis","osteomyelitis",and"surgical site infection".Results We presented pediatric case series with infectious diseases,including deep neck abscess,pyothorax and empyema,pneumonia,urinary tract infection,intra-abdominal abscess,soft tissue infection,septic arthritis and osteomyelitis,and surgical-site infection.Ultrasound was useful for evaluating the extent and location of inflammation and abscess and for decision-making concerning surgical intervention.Conclusion Knowledge of these sonographic findings is important for sonographers during examinations and for physicians when determining the treatment plan and period of antibiotic therapy for infected lesions.

为设计一种节能并且鲁棒性强的船舶航向保持控制器,将非线性反馈算法与积分滑模控制相结合,设计非线性反馈积分滑模控制器用于船舶航向保持。非线性反馈积分滑模控制器建立在积分滑模控制器的基础上,利用非线性函数处理反馈误差,从而达到节能的作用。证明了积分滑模曲面的李雅普诺夫稳定性,并进行了仿真实验。从仿真结果可以看出,非线性反馈积分滑模控制在不影响航向保持精度的前提下,能够降低舵力,但是,船舶的横漂运动和转艏运动会受到影响。在设计非线性反馈积分滑模控制器的同时,分析了非线性反馈算法对船舶各状态的影响,对非线性反馈算法的进一步改进具有一定的参考价值。

We study an M/PH/1 queue with phase type working vacation and vacation interruption where the vacation time follows a phase type distribution. The server serves the customers at a lower rate in a vacation period. The server comes back to the regular busy period at a service completion without completing the vacation. Such policy is called vacation interruption. In terms of quasi birth and death process and matrix-geometric solution method, we obtain the stationary queue length distribution. Moreover we obtain the conditional stochastic decomposition structures of queue length and waiting time when the service time distribution in the regular busy period is exponential.
