Effects of Cholestasis on Whole Blood Concentration of Tacrolimus, an Immunosuppressant, in Living-Related Liver Transplant Recipients

Background: To explore the effects of cholestasis on whole blood concentration of tacrolimus (TAC), an immunosup-pressant, we investigated the relationship among blood TAC concentration, bile flow, and TAC metabolites in bile, as well as the relationship between total bilirubin (T-Bil), an index of cholestasis, and blood TAC concentration, in liver transplant recipients. Methods: Data were collected retrospectively from 16 male and 19 female patients (mean age: 38 years;range: 12 -59 years) who had undergone a living-related liver transplantation at Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine from 2004 through 2008. Analysis of TAC, demethyl-TAC, and hydroxy-TAC in bile was performed by LC-MS/MS. Results: There was no correlation between the ratio of TAC metabolite to TAC in bile (M/P) of demethyl-TAC and post operation days (POD), whereas a weak linear correlation was demonstrated between M/P of hydroxy-TAC and POD (r = -0.345). Moreover, linear correlations were not observed between M/P and the TAC trough level normalized dose (TLTAC/dose), and between TLTAC/dose and POD. A negative linear correlation was demonstrated between bile flow and T-Bil in blood (r = -0.495). Furthermore, a positive linear correlation was observed between TLTAC/dose and T-Bil (r = 0.598), whereas there was no correlation between bile flow and TLTAC/dose. Conclusions: Improvement of hepatic function and the increase of TAC clearance after postoperative day 7 did not significantly contribute to hepatic TAC metabolism, bile excretion, and TLTAC/dose. Postoperative biliary stricture from liver transplantation with/without biliary drainage caused inter-and intra-patient variability in TLTAC/dose after liver transplantation, which could be assessed by T-Bil. T-Bil in blood might be a predictive biomarker for determining the degree of bile duct stricture and TAC dose in liver transplantation patients. Estimating the effective reproduction number of COVID-19 from population-wide wastewater data:An application in Kagawa,Japan

Epidemiological impact of revoking mask-wearing recommendation on COVID-19 transmission in Tokyo,Japan

The human intestinal microbiota that comprise over 1,000 species thrive in dark and anaerobic *** are recognized for the production of diverse low-molecular-weight metabolites crucial to human health and ***,low-molecular-weight pigments known for their antioxidative activity,are delivered to humans through oral ***,it remains unclear whether human intestinal bacteria biosynthesize carotenoids as part of the in-situ *** this study,we investigated carotenoid synthesis genes in vari-ous human gut and probiotic *** a result,novel candidates,the crtM and crtN genes,were identified in the carbon monoxide-utilizing gut anaerobe Eubacterium limosum and the lactic acid bacterium Leuconostoc mesenteroides *** gene candidates were isolated,introduced into Escherichia coli,which synthesized a carotenoid substrate,and cultured *** analysis of the resulting carotenoids re-vealed that the crtM and crtN gene candidates of *** and *** mediate the production of 4,4′-diaponeurosporene through 15-cis-4,4′-*** of the crtE-homologous genes in these bacteria indicated their non-functionality for C40-carotenoid *** and ***,along with the known carotenogenic lactic acid bacterium Lactiplantibacillus plantarum,were observed to produce no carotenoids under strictly anaerobic *** two lactic acid bacteria synthesized detectable levels of 4,4′-diaponeurosporene under semi-aerobic *** findings highlight that the obligate anaerobe ***-sum retains aerobically functional C30-carotenoid biosynthesis genes,potentially with no immediate self-utility,suggesting an evolutionary direction in carotenoid biosynthesis.(229 words)

Hand Cooling Enhances the Proprioceptive Drift during Rubber Hand Illusion

Background: The neural representation of the body is easily altered by integrating multiple sensory signals in the brain. The “Rubber Hand Illusion” (RHI) is one of the most popular experimental paradigms to investigate this phenomenon. During this illusion, ownership of a rubber hand is temporarily induced. It was shown that external and continuous cooling of the palm enhanced the RHI, suggesting an association between altered the autonomic nervous system regulation and altered the sense of ownership of a specific limb. Purpose: To investigate whether artificially cooling the entire hand for a short period affects the magnitude of the illusion. Methods: Participants immersed their entire hand in cool, cold, or warm water for 1 min before the RHI procedure. Results: We found that cooling the entire hand enhanced the proprioceptive drift during the RHI but not the subjective feeling of ownership. In contrast, warming and intense cooling of the entire hand did not affect the RHI strength. Conclusion: Our results suggest that transient and moderate cooling of the entire hand was sufficient in enhancing the illusory disembodiment of one’s own hand.

Fitting parametric models to globular clusters’structural profiles has been essential for the study of stellar *** provides their important structural parameters,such as the concentrations and core radii of the ***,existing parametric models can apply only to non-collapsing-core clusters in the early relaxation-evolution ***,a single parametric model cannot provide globular clusters’structural parameters in both the early and late evolution *** have recently found an accurate spectral solution for the self-similar orbit-averaged Fokker-Planck(OAFP)equation to model collapsingcore clusters at the late evolution *** present work establishes a new parametric model by combining the self-similar OAFP-and *** it is a single-mass and isotropic model,the new model applies to at least fifty-five Galactic globular clusters with resolved cores in all the evolution *** a main result,we show the characteristics of the relaxation times against the concentrations of the *** also affirm that the structures of low-concentration clusters are polytropic in the Milky Way.
