In ocean engineering, enhancing the scattering of water waves allows capturing energy from larger areas, with clear implications for energy harvesting and coastal protection.

This review updates the present status of the field of molecular markers and marker-assisted selection(MAs),using the example of drought tolerance in *** accuracy of selected quantitative trait loci(QTLs),candidate genes and suggested markers was assessed in the barley genome *** common strategies are described for molecular marker development,candidate gene identification and verification,and their possible applications in MAs to improve the grain yield and yield components in barley under drought *** strategies are based on the following five principles:(1)Molecular markers are designated as genomic‘tags’,and their‘prediction’is strongly dependent on their distance from a candidate gene on genetic or physical maps;(2)plants react differently under favourable and stressful conditions or depending on their stage of development;(3)each candidate gene must be verified by confirming its expression in the relevant conditions,e.g.,drought;(4)the molecular marker identified must be validated for MAs for tolerance to drought stress and improved grain yield;and(5)the small number of molecular markers realized for MAs in breeding,from among the many studies targeting candidate genes,can be explained by the complex nature of drought stress,and multiple stress-responsive genes in each barley genotype that are expressed differentially depending on many other factors.

BACKGROUND Although the benefits of exercise for kidney transplant recipients(KTRs)have been widely demonstrated,these patients experience several barriers in undertaking a structured exercise program in hospital and non-hospital *** To compare the effects of a supervised moderate-intensity gym-based intervention with a home-based low-intensity walking program on exercise capacity in *** KTRs were asked to choose between two six-month *** first group performed a low-intensity interval walking intervention at home-based exercise intervention (HBex). The second group performed a supervised training program at an adapted physical activitygym (sgym), including aerobic and resistance training. The outcomes, collected at baseline and at the end of theprograms, included the 6-minute walking test, the peak oxygen consumption (VO_(2)peak) during a treadmill test,the 5-time sit-to-stand test, and blood *** patients agreed to participate and self-selected into the HBex (n = 9) and sgym (n = 8) groups. Twopatients in the sgym group dropped out because of familial problems. At baseline, patients in the HBex group weresignificantly older and had lower walking distance, VO_(2)peak, and lower limb strength. Primary outcome changeswere significantly greater in the HBex group than in the sgym group (52 ± 23 m vs 8 ± 34;P = 0.005). No othersignificant differences between groups were observed. Both groups improved most of the outcomes in the withingroupcomparisons, with significant variations in VO_(2) ***-month moderate-intensity supervised or low-intensity home-based training programs effectively improvedexercise capacity in KTRs. Gym-based programs combine aerobic and resistance training;however, in-homewalking may be proposed for frail KTRs.

Background: Evidence regarding the effectiveness of prenatal nutritional supplements has mainly considered anthropometric pregnancy outcomes. The effect on markers of health and disease， such as offspring telomere length (TL) and mitochondrial DNA content (mtDNAc) is unknown. Objectives: We assessed the efficacy of maternal multiple micronutrient (MMN)-fortified balanced-energy protein (BEP) and iron-folic acid (IFA) supplementation on newborn TL as a secondary outcome and mtDNAc as a non-declared outcome. Design: We conducted a randomized controlled trial in rural Burkina Faso， among pregnant females (15-40 years old) enrolled at s of gestation. Mothers received either MMN-fortified BEP and IFA (intervention) or IFA only (control) throughout pregnancy. Whole arterial blood samples were collected from the umbilical cord of 104 control and 90 intervention group infants， respectively. Average relative TL and mtDNAc were measured using quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Linear regression models were fitted to assess TL and mtDNAc differences across trial arms. Results: We found that a combined daily MMN-fortified BEP supplement and IFA tablet did not affect newborn TL [β = -0.010 (95% CI: -0.057， 0.036); P = 0.662] or mtDNAc [β = 0.065 (95% CI: -0.203， 0.073); P = 0.354]， as compared to an IFA tablet alone. These findings were confirmed (P > 0.05) by adjusting the regression models for potential prognostic factors of study outcomes at enrollment. Exploratory analyses indicated higher， but non-significantly different mtDNAc among children born either small-for-gestational age， low birthweight， or preterm. Conclusions: Newborns from mothers who received daily nutritional supplements across gestation did not have different relative TL or mtDNAc.
