Microscopy is an essential technique for observation on living *** is currently great interest in applying scanning probe microscopy to image-living biological cells in their natural environment at the nanometer *** ion conductance microscopy is a new form of scanning probe microscopy,which enables non-contact high-resolution imaging of living biological *** on a scanned nanopipette in physiological buer,the distance feedback control uses the ion current to control the distance between the pipette tip and the sample ***,this feedback control has diculties over slopes on convoluted cell surfaces,which limits its *** this study,we present an improved form of feedback control that removes the contribution of up to the third-order slope from the ion current signal,hence providing a more accurate signal for controlling the *** show that this allows faster and lower noise topographic high-resolution imaging.

This paper presents an approach for determiningthe optimal cutting condition for milling thin-walled ele-ments with complex shapes. The approach is based on theinteraction between the thin-walled detail and its periodicexcitation by tooth passing, taking into account the highintermittency of such a process. The influence of theexcitation frequency on the amplitude of the detail oscil-lation during milling was determined by simulation andexperiments. It was found that the analytical results agreedwith experimental data. The position of the detail when thetooth starts to cut was evaluated through experiments. Theinfluence of this parameter on the processing state is pre-sented herein. The processing stability is investigated andcompared with the proposed approach. Thereafter, spectralanalyses are conducted to determine the contribution of thevibrating frequencies to the detail behavior during processing.

Seventy-eight species and forms of testate amoebae were identified from 29 freshwater and soil habitats in three territories of China （Shandong and Hubei Provinces）. Most abundant species from the genera Plagiopyxis, Centropyxis and Trinema represent the globally-distributed and eurybiont group of testate amoe- bae. The species richness was observed to be the lowest （7-12 species per biotope） in sandy sediments of the Yangtze River, but considerably higher （20-30 taxa） in soil environment. In the range of terrestrial habitats, the most remote communities from Laoshan Mountain in Shandong Province, China manifested the highest difference from others. On the other hand, communities originated in the most distant from industrial center places （Guifeng Mountain in Hubei Province, China） possess the most peculiar species composition including specific Gondwa- nian taxa （e.g. Nebela bigibbosa）. In sum, the results obtained provide the evidence that the community complexity and specificity reduce in the places located within areas that are highly populated and intensively visited by humans.

Purpose: Implant therapy restores masticatory function by restoring lost tooth morphology. It has been shown that mastication contributes not only to food intake and digestion, but also to the improvement of overall health. However, there have been no studies on the effects of implant treatment on electroencephalography (EEG). In this study, we investigated the effects of restoration of masticatory function by implant treatment on EEG and stress. Methods: 13 subjects (6 males, 7 females, age 64.1 ± 5.8 years) who had lost masticatory function due to tooth loss and 11 healthy subjects (6 males, 5 females, age 47.6 ± 2.4 years) as a control group. EEG (θ, α, β waves, α/β ratio) and salivary cortisol were measured before immediate dental implant treatment and every month of treatment for 6 months. EEG (θ, α, β waves, α/β ratio) was measured with a simple electroencephalograph miniature DAQ terminal (Intercross-410, Intercross Co., Ltd., Japan) in a resting closed-eye condition, and salivary cortisol was measured using an ELISA kit. Results: Compared to the control group, the appearance of θ and α waves were significantly decreased and β waves were increased, and α/β ratio was significantly decreased. The cortisol level of the subject group was significantly higher compared with the control group. With the course of implant treatment, the appearance of θ and α waves of the subject group increased, while β waves decreased. However, no significant difference was observed. The α/β ratio of the subject group increased from the first month after implant treatment and increased significantly after 5 and 6 months (0 vs. 5 months: p < 0.05, 0 vs. 6 months: p < 0.01). The cortisol levels in the subject group decreased from the first month after implant treatment and significantly decreased after 3 or 4 months (0 vs. 3 months: p < 0.05, 0 vs. 4 months: p < 0.01). Local-environment dependence of stacking fault energies in concentrated solid-solution alloys

Concentrated solid-solution alloys(CSAs)based on 3d transition metals have demonstrated extraordinary mechanical properties and radiation resistance associated with their low stacking fault energies(SFEs).Owing to the intrinsic disorder,SFEs in CSAs exhibit distributions depending on local atomic *** this work,the distribution of SFEs in equiatomic CSAs of NiCo,NiFe,and NiCoCr are investigated based on empirical potential and first-principles *** show that the calculated distribution of SFEs in chemically disordered CSAs depends on the stacking fault area using empirical potential *** on electronic structure calculations,we find that local variations of SFEs in CSAs correlate with the charge density redistribution in the stacking fault *** further propose a bond breaking and forming model to understand and predict the SFEs in CSAs based on the local structure *** is shown that the perturbation induced by a stacking fault is localized in the first-nearest planes for NiCo,but extends up to the third nearest planes for NiFe and NiCoCr because of partially filled d electrons in Fe and Cr.

Magnesium and its alloys are the most investigated materials for solid-state hydrogen storage in the form of metal hydrides,but there are still unresolved problems with the kinetics and thermodynamics of hydrogenation and dehydrogenation of this group of *** plastic deformation(SPD)methods,such as equal-channel angular pressing(ECAP),high-pressure torsion(HPT),intensive rolling,and fast forging,have been widely used to enhance the activation,air resistance,and hydrogenation/dehydrogenation kinetics of Mg-based hydrogen storage materials by introducing ultrafine/nanoscale grains and crystal lattice *** severely deformed materials,particularly in the presence of alloying additives or second-phase nanoparticles,can show not only fast hydrogen absorption/desorption kinetics but also good cycling *** was shown that some materials that are apparently inert to hydrogen can absorb hydrogen after SPD ***,the SPD methods were effectively used for hydrogen binding-energy engineering and synthesizing new magnesium alloys with low thermodynamic stability for reversible low/room-temperature hydrogen storage,such as nanoglasses,high-entropy alloys,and metastable phases including the high-pressureγ-MgH2 *** work reviews recent advances in the development of Mg-based hydrogen storage materials by SPD processing and discusses their potential in future applications.

Computer simulations are routinely performed to model the response of materials to extreme environments,such as neutron(or ion)*** latter involves high-energy collisions from which a recoiling atom creates a so-called atomic displacement *** cascades involve coordinated motion of atoms in the form of supersonic *** shockwaves are characterized by local atomic pressures 415 GPa and interatomic distances o2Å.Similar pressures and interatomic distances are observed in other extreme environment,including short-pulse laser ablation,high-impact ballistic collisions and diamond anvil *** cascade simulations using four different force fields,with initial kinetic energies ranging from 1 to 40 keV,show that there is a direct relationship between these high-pressure states and stable defect *** important shortcoming in the modeling of interatomic interactions at these short distances,which in turn determines final defect production,is brought to light.
