Phosphorus utilization and microbial community in response to lead/iron addition to a waterlogged soil

Constructed wetlands have emerged as a viable option for helping to solve a wide range of water quality problems. However, heavy metals adsorbed by substrates would decrease the growth of plants, impair the functions of wetlands and eventually result in a failure of contaminant removal. Typha latifolia L., tolerant to heavy metals, has been widely used for phytoremediation of Pb/Zn mine tailings under waterlogged conditions. This study examined effects of iron as ferrous sulfate （100 and 500 mg/kg） and lead as lead nitrate （0, 100, 500 and 1000 mg/kg） on phosphorus utilization and microbial community structure in a constructed wetland. Wetland plants （T. latifolia） were grown for 8 weeks in rhizobags filled with a paddy soil under waterlogged conditions. The results showed that both the amount of iron plaque on the roots and phosphorus adsorbed on the plaque decreased with the amount of lead addition. When the ratio of added iron to lead was 1：1, phosphorus utilized by plants was the maximum. Total amount of phospholipids fatty acids （PLFAs） was 23%-59% higher in the rhizosphere soil than in bulk soil. The relative abundance of Gram-negative bacteria, aerobic bacteria, and methane oxidizing bacteria was also higher in the rhizosphere soil than in bulk soil, but opposite was observed for other bacteria and fungi. Based on cluster analysis, microbial communities were mostly controlled by the addition of ferrous sulfate and lead nitrate in rhizosphere and bulk soil, respectively.

Alumina modified sodium vanadate cathode for aqueous zinc-ion batteries

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) have great prospects for widespread application in massive scale energy storage. By virtue of the multivalent state, open frame structure and high theoretical specific capacity, vanadium (V)-based compounds are a kind of the most developmental potential cathode materials for ZIBs. However, the slow kinetics caused by low conductivity and the capacity degradation caused by material dissolution still need to be addressed for large-scale applications. Therefore, sodium vanadate Na_(2)V_(6)O_(16)·3H_(2)O (NVO) was chosen as a model material, and was modified with alumina coating through simple mixing and stirring methods. After Al_(2)O_(3) coating modification, the rate capability and long-cycle stability of Zn//NVO@Al_(2)O_(3) battery have been significantly improved. The discharge specific capacity of NVO@Al_(2)O_(3) reach up to 228 mAh/g (at 4 A/g), with a capacity reservation rate of approximately 68% after 1000 cycles, and the Coulombic efficiency (CE) is close to 100%. As a comparison, the capacity reservation rate of Zn//NVO battery is only 27.7%. Its superior electrochemical performance is mainly attributed to the Al2O3 coating layer, which can increase zinc-ion conductivity of the material surface, and to some extent inhibit the dissolution of NVO, making the structure stable and improving the cyclic stability of the material. This paper offers new prospects for the development of cathode coating materials for ZIBs.

Chromatographic Resolution of a-Amino Acids by （R）-（3,3＇-Halogen Substituted-l,l＇-binaphthyl）-20-crown-6 Stationary Phase in HPLC

Three new chiral stationary phases （CSPs） for high-performance liquid chromatography were prepared from R-（3,3＇-halogen substituted-1,1＇-binaphthyl）-20-crown-6 （halogen=C1, Br and I ）. The experimental results showed that R-（3,3＇-dibromo-l,l＇-binaphthyl）-20-crown-6 （CSP-1） possesses more prominent enantioselectivity than the two other halogen-substituted crown ether derivatives. All twenty-one a-amino acids have different degrees of sep- aration on R-（3,3＇-dibromo-l,l＇-binaphthyl）-20-crown-6-based CSP-1 at room temperature. The enantioselectivity of CSP-1 is also better than those of some commercial R-（1, 1＇-binaphthyl）-20-crown-6 derivatives. Both the separa- tion factors （a） and the resolution （Rs） are better than those of commercial crown ether-based CSPs [CROWNPAK CR（＋） from Daicel] under the same conditions for asparagine, threonine, proline, arginine, serine, histidine and va- line, which cannot be separated by commercial CR（＋）. This study proves the commercial usefulness of the R-（3,3＇-dibromo- 1, 1＇-binaphthyl）-20-crown-6 chiral stationary phase.

In order to obtain a safe,reliable,long-lived battery system without use of flammable,volatile,and relatively unstable organic liquid-based electrolytes,lithium garnet oxides with formulas Li7-xLa3Zr2-xTaxO12（x=0.2-1）were synthesized by the solid state reaction *** cubic phases were observed in the composition x range between 0.2 and *** lattice parameters decreased with the addition of Ta due to the smaller ionic radius of Ta^5＋compared with that of Zr^4＋,following the Vegard＇s *** total conductivity of the x=0.3 composition is 6.03×10^-5 S·cm^-1at room temperature with an activation energy of 0.30 *** lithium garnet oxides exhibit lithium ionic transport that is relevant to lithium battery application.

Enhanced Capacitive Desalination Performance of Porous Carbon Spheres@MnO2 Composite

A porous carbon spheres@MnO2 composite is prepared and used as the electrosorption electrode. The MnO2 nanoparticles are evenly distributed on the porous carbon spheres. The as-prepared composite possesses high specific surface area of 258.6 m2·g -1. Its electrochemical evaluations confirm that the composite has high specific capacitance of 175 Fog-1 at a current density of 1 A·g -1 in 0.5 mol·L-1 NaC1 aqueous solution, and shows good conductivity and excellent cycling performance. Electrosorption capacity for the porous carbon spheres@MnO2 composite is 6.28 mg·g-1. Moreover, the composite electrode exhibits excellent recyclability with an efficient regeneration process.

Highly efficient and active Co-N-C catalysts for oxygen reduction and Zn-air batteries

In this study,the Lewis doping approach of polyaniline(PANI)was employed to fabricate cobait-nitrogen-carbon(Co-N-C)oxygen electrocatalysts for Zn-air batteries,aiming to enhance the active spots of *** resulting Co-N-C catalysts exhibited welldefined nanofiber networks,and the Brunauer-EmmettTeller(BET)analysis confirmed their substantial specific surface *** experiments demonstrated that the Co-N-C catalysts achieved the half-wave potential(***)of 0.85 V in alkaline medium,overcoming Pt/C and iron-nitrogen-carbon(Fe-N-C)counterparts in extended cycle testing with only a 25 mV change in a half-wave potential after 5000 ***,the highest power density measured in the zinc(Zn)-air battery reached 227 mW/cm^(2),a significant improvement over the performance of 101 mW/cm^(2) of the platinum on activated carbon(Pt/C)*** findings highlight the advantageous stability enhancement associated with the utilization of Co in the Co-N-C catalysts.
