Dual metal ions/BNQDs boost PMS activation over copper tungstate photocatalyst for antibiotic removal:Intermediate,toxicity assessment and mechanism

In the metal-based peroxymonosulfate(PMS)activation process,the sluggish surface redox cycle of metal ions generally hampered the efficiency of PMS activation for pollutant removal.herein,Codoped CuWO 4/BN quantum dots(CW/Co/BNQDs)photocatalysts were developed to realize Cu^(2+)/Cu+and Co^(2+)/Co^(3+)dual ions redox cycles for PMS activation,which would facilitate the tetracycline(TC)removal.CW/4Co/2BNQDs could degrade 94.8%TC within 30 min in PMS/Vis system,and the apparent rate constant of CW/4Co/2BNQDs was 2.7 times and 1.2 times higher than those of CW and CW/4Co,respectively.The improved TC degradation performance could be attributed to the synergetic effect between BNQDs and dual redox cycles.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)spectra of samples before and after the reaction demonstrated that BNQDs were beneficial for accelerating the Cu^(2+)/Cu+and Co^(2+)/Co^(3+)redox cycles in CW/4Co/2BNQDs,further boosting the activation of PMS in TC degradation.Experiments of different radical scavengers revealed that the SO_(4)^(·−)/·OH/h+/^(1)O_(2)reactive species participated in the PMS activation for the TC degradation process.The possible TC degradation pathway and intermediate toxicity were detailed investigated.In addition,CW/4Co/2BNQDs exhibited outstanding photocatalytic activity over five consecutive cycles,which illustrated that it was supposed to be a reliable PMS activator over antibiotic elimination for practical application.And this work shed new light on constructing dual redox cycles for efficient PMS activation.

Pretreatment of the carrier for supported catalysts can effectively improve the strong metal-support interaction(SMSI)and increase the dispersion of precious metals,which are critical to many important catalytic reactions.In this work,we tuned SMSI on Pd/TiO_(2)catalysts through inducing surface defects of TiO_(2)by pretreated with different atmospheres(H_(2)/N_(2),N_(2),O_(2)/N_(2))at the high temperature(800℃).Multiple characterization results illustrated that surface defects anchored Pd species and thus enhanced their dispersion.During reduction,Ti^(3+)species formed and transferred onto the metallic Pd species and then induced SMSI,which effectively stabilize Pd species in the metallic state.The stronger MSI,the more stability of Pd species.As a case,Pd/TiO_(2)–800H_(2),with strongest MSI,displayed the best HCHO oxidation performance at low temperature(10℃).

Probiotic cocktails accelerate baicalin metabolism in the ileum to modulate intestinal health in broiler chickens

Background Baicalin and probiotic cocktails are promising feed additives with broad application prospects.While probiotic cocktails are known to enhance intestinal health,the potential synergistic impact of combining baicalin with probiotic cocktails on the gut health of broiler chickens remains largely unexplored.Therefore,this study aims to investigate the influence of the combined administration of baicalin and probiotic cocktails on the composition of ileal and cecal microbiota in broiler chickens to elucidate the underlying mechanisms responsible for the healthpromoting effects.Results A total of 3201-day-old male Arbor Acres broilers were divided into 4 groups,each with 8 replicates of 10 chicks per replicate.Over a period of 42 d,the birds were fed a basal diet or the same diet supplemented with 37.5 g/t baicalin(BC),1,000 g/t probiotic cocktails(PC),or a combination of both BC(37.5 g/t)and PC(1,000 g/t).The results demonstrated that BC+PC exhibited positive synergistic effects,enhancing intestinal morphology,immune function,and barrier function.This was evidenced by increased VH/CD ratio,sIgA levels,and upregulated expression of occludin and claudin-1(Phe effects of BC,particularly in the ileum,where BC+PC significantly increased theα-diversity of the ileal microbiota,altered itsβ-diversity,and increased the relative abundance of Flavonifractor(Phermore,Flavonifractor positively correlated with chicken ileum crypt depth(Phe PC group had a very similar microbial composition to BC+PC,suggesting that the effect of PC at the distal end of the gut overshadowed those of BC.Conclusions We demonstrated the synergistic enhancement of gut health regulation in broiler chickens by combining baicalin and probiotic cocktails.Probiotic cocktails enhanced the effects of baicalin and accelerated its metabolism in the ileum,thereby influencing the ileal

Exploiting demand-side heterogeneous flexible resources in risk management of power system frequency

More demand-side flexible resources(DFRs)are participating in the frequency regulation of renewable power systems,whose heterogeneous characteristics have a significant impact on the system frequency response.Consequently,selecting suitable DFRs poses a formidable challenge for independent system operators(ISO).In this paper,a reserve allocation methodology for heterogeneous DFRs is proposed to manage the risk of power system frequency.Firstly,a performance curve is developed to describe the cost,capacity,and response speed of DFRs.Moreover,a clustering method for multiple distributed DFRs is conducted to calculate the aggregated performance curves and uncertainty coefficients.Then,the frequency security criterion considering DFRs’performance is constructed,whose linearity makes it can be easily coupled into the system scheduling model and solved.Furthermore,a risk management model for DFRs considering frequency-chance-constraint is proposed to make a trade-off between cost and frequency security.Finally,the model is transformed into mixed integer second-order cone programming(MISOCP)and solved by the commercial solver.The proposed model is validated by the IEEE 30 and IEEE 118 bus systems.

Hydrochemical Characterization,Controlling Factors and Water Quality of Surface Water in Shandong Province,North China

In this study,90 surface water samples were collected from Shandong Province(SDP)in the dry and wet seasons and analyzed using statistical analysis,hydrochemical methods and water quality index(WQI).The content of main ions showed seasonal variations,with a higher average value in the dry season than in the wet season.Sampling points exhibiting high contents of the main chemical components were mainly distributed in areas southwest of SDP,north of Weifang,and around Jinan.The saturation index of carbonate minerals was greater than zero,while that of evaporite minerals was less than zero.The hydrochemical characteristics of surface water are mainly dominated by rock weathering as well as cation exchange.In addition,surface water in SDP has significantly been affected by anthropogenic factors.Most of the surface water could be classified as weakly alkaline soft-fresh water,with the hydrochemical types of SO_(4)·Cl-Ca·Mg and SO_(4)·Cl-Na.In terms of WQI,47.88% and 37.88% of the water samples in SDP were classified as poor water in the dry and wet seasons,respectively.On the whole,the water quality is higher in the wet season than in the dry season,and surface water in SDP is generally suitable for agricultural irrigation.

Research on Evacuation Path Planning Based on Improved Sparrow Search Algorithm

Reducing casualties and property losses through effective evacuation route planning has been a key focus for researchers in recent years.As part of this effort,an enhanced sparrow search algorithm(MSSA)was proposed.Firstly,the Golden Sine algorithm and a nonlinear weight factor optimization strategy were added in the discoverer position update stage of the SSA algorithm.Secondly,the Cauchy-Gaussian perturbation was applied to the optimal position of the SSA algorithm to improve its ability to jump out of local optima.Finally,the local search mechanism based on the mountain climbing method was incorporated into the local search stage of the SSA algorithm,improving its local search ability.To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm,the Whale Algorithm,Gray Wolf Algorithm,Improved Gray Wolf Algorithm,Sparrow Search Algorithm,and MSSA Algorithm were employed to solve various test functions.The accuracy and convergence speed of each algorithm were then compared and analyzed.The results indicate that the MSSA algorithm has superior solving ability and stability compared to other algorithms.To further validate the enhanced algorithm’s capabilities for path planning,evacuation experiments were conducted using different maps featuring various obstacle types.Additionally,a multi-exit evacuation scenario was constructed according to the actual building environment of a teaching building.Both the sparrow search algorithm and MSSA algorithm were employed in the simulation experiment for multiexit evacuation path planning.The findings demonstrate that the MSSA algorithm outperforms the comparison algorithm,showcasing its greater advantages and higher application potential.

Dynamic analysis of a latent HIV infection model with CTL immune and antibody responses

This paper develops a mathematical model to investigate the Human Immunodeficiency Virus(HIV)infection dynamics.The model includes two transmission modes(cell-to-cell and cell-free),two adaptive immune responses(cytotoxic T-lymphocyte(CTL)and antibody),a saturated CTL immune response,and latent HIV infection.The existence and local stability of equilibria are fully characterized by four reproduction numbers.Through sensitivity analyses,we assess the partial rank correlation coefficients of these reproduction numbers and identify that the infection rate via cell-to-cell transmission,the number of new viruses produced by each infected cell during its life cycle,the clearance rate of free virions,and immune parameters have the greatest impact on the reproduction numbers.Additionally,we compare the effects of immune stimulation and cell-to-cell spread on the model's dynamics.The findings highlight the significance of adaptive immune responses in increasing the population of uninfected cells and reducing the numbers of latent cells,infected cells,and viruses.Furthermore,cell-to-cell transmission is identified as a facilitator of HIV transmission.The analytical and numerical results presented in this study contribute to a better understanding of HIV dynamics and can potentially aid in improving HIV management strategies.

Ginkgo biloba extract alleviates fatty liver hemorrhagic syndrome in laying hens via reshaping gut microbiota

Background Ginkgo biloba extract(GBE)is evidenced to be effective in the prevention and alleviation of metabolic disorders,including obesity,diabetes and fatty liver disease.However,the role of GBE in alleviating fatty liver hemorrhagic syndrome(FLHS)in laying hens and the underlying mechanisms remain to be elucidated.here,we investigated the effects of GBE on relieving FLHS with an emphasis on the modulatory role of GBE in chicken gut microbiota.Results The results showed that GBE treatment ameliorated biochemical blood indicators in high-fat diet(HFD)-induced FLHS laying hen model by decreasing the levels of TG,TC,ALT and ALP.The lipid accumulation and pathological score of liver were also relieved after GBE treatment.Moreover,GBE treatment enhanced the antioxidant activity of liver and serum by increasing GSH,SOD,T-AOC,GSH-PX and reducing MDA,and downregulated the expression of genes related to lipid synthesis(FAS,LXRα,GPAT1,PPARγand Ch REBP1)and inflammatory cytokines(TNF-α,IL-6,TLR4 and NF-κB)in the liver.Microbial profiling analysis revealed that GBE treatment reshaped the HFD-perturbed gut microbiota,particularly elevated the abundance of Megasphaera in the cecum.Meanwhile,targeted metabolomic analysis of SCFAs revealed that GBE treatment significantly promoted the production of total SCFAs,acetate and propionate,which were positively correlated with the GBE-enriched gut microbiota.Finally,we confirmed that the GBE-altered gut microbiota was sufficient to alleviate FLHS by fecal microbiota transplantation(FMT).Conclusions We provided evidence that GBE alleviated FLHS in HFD-induced laying hens through reshaping the composition of gut microbiota.Our findings shed light on mechanism underlying the anti-FLHS efficacy of GBE and lay foundations for future use of GBE as additive to prevent and control FLHS in laying hen industry.
