Reactor characterization and primary application of a state of art dual-reactor chamber in the investigation of atmospheric photochemical processes

Increasing attention has been paid to the air pollution more recently. Smog chamber has been proved as a necessary and effective tool to study atmospheric processes, including photochemical smog and haze formation. A novel smog chamber was designed to study the atmospheric photochemical reaction mechanism of typical volatile organic compounds(VOCs) as well as the aging of aerosols. The smog chamber system includes an enclosure equipped with black lights as the light source, two parallel reactors(2 m^3 of each) with separate control of light source and temperature, with a series of coupled instruments for online monitoring of gas phase and particle phase reactants and products. Chamber characterization, including air source stability, effective light intensity, temperature stability, as well as gas phase and particle phase wall losses, were carried out before further research. The results showed that our smog chamber systems developed by other domestic and international groups. It was also observed that the wall loss of aromatic VOCs varied with different functional groups as well as the isomerism. The results of preliminary simulation experiment from styrene-NO_x demonstrated that the chamber can be well utilized to simulate gas-particle conversion progresses in the atmosphere.

For a long time,the morbidity and mortality rates of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)have remained high.Since the concept of ferroptosis was introduced in 2012,researchers’perspectives have shifted toward finding novel ferroptosis-related treatment strategies,especially for tumors that are resistant to apoptosis.In recent years,there have been an increasing number of studies on ferroptosis,and these studies have found that ferroptosis has great potential and promise for cancer treatment.Ferroptosis is a kind of regulated cell death(RCD);unlike apoptosis,ferroptosis is an iron-dependent type of RCD driven by lipid peroxidation.The whole process of ferroptosis mainly revolves around three pathways(system xc-/glutathione peroxidase 4[GPX4]),lipid (peroxidation,and iron metabolism),which are also regulated by various metabolic factors.This review will attempt to analyze the relationship between the system xc-/GPX4 pathway,lipid peroxidation,iron metabolism,and ferroptosis from three aspects(triggering,execution,and regulation),and the regulatory factors for ferroptosis will be summarized.In this review,we will also illustrate the relationship between ferroptosis and tumors as well as its application in tumors from the perspective of HCC.Finally,we will summarize the current limitations and needs and provide perspectives related to the focus of development in the future.

Precise electro-reduction of alkyl halides for radical defluorinative alkylation

Reported here is a precise electro-reduction strategy for radical defluorinative alkylation towards the synthesis of gem-difluoroalkenes from α-trifluoromethylstyrenes. According to the redox-potential difference of the radical precursors, direct or indirect electrolysis is respectively adopted to realize the precise reduction. An easy-to-handle, catalyst-and metal-free condition is developed for the reduction of alkyl radical precursors that are generally easier to be reduced than α-trifluoromethylstyrenes,while a novel electro-Ni-catalytic system is established for the electro-reduction of alkyl bromides or chlorides towards the electrochemical synthesis of gem-difluoroalkenes. The merit of this protocol is exhibited by its mild conditions, wide substrate scope, and scalable preparation. Mechanistic studies and DFT calculations proved that the coordination of α-trifluoromethylstyrenes to Ni-catalyst prevents the direct reduction of the alkene and, in turn, promotes the activation of alkyl bromide through halogen atom transfer mechanism.

Traditional detection of thiodiglycol(TDG),a metabolic marker for sulfur mustard poisoning,requires not only professional operators,but also expensive reagents and large instruments.Herein,we developed a novel molecular imprinted polymers(MIPs)-based lateral flow assay(LFA)strategy for the quick,sensitive,and selective detection of TDG.Gold nanoparticles(Au NPs),MIPs,and metallothioneins(MTs)were respectively loaded on the conjugate pad,test line(T line)and control line(C line).After adding TDG,Au NPs on the conjugate pad reacted with TDG through the Au-S bond first.Then,under the action of capillary force,the conjugates of TDG and Au NPs were trapped by the MIPs as they traveled to the T line,and the residual Au NPs bound with the MTs on the C line,exhibiting two obvious red bands on T line and C line,respectively.In contrast,a single red band could be observed on C line without TDG.This method exhibited a wide linear range from 10.0 pg/m L to 10,000.0 ng/m L and its limit of detection(LOD)was as low as 0.41 pg/m L.This method was successfully utilized to detect TDG in human urine,presenting significant potential in the point-of-care testing of TDG in clinical samples of the sulfur mustard poisoning patients.

The development of a selective catalyst for the conversion of biomass and plastics into H2by steam reforming can combat the energy crisis and global warming.In this work,support Ni-Fe-Ca/H-Al bifunctional catalysts were prepared by loading Ni and Fe into pretreatment CaO/Al_(2)O_(3)(Ca/H-Al)carriers and showed high catalytic activity for the steam reforming of biomass and plastic.Moreover,the idea of bidirectional degradation was exploited to strengthen the pyrolysis of plastic with a high H/C and biomass with a high O/C.Interestingly,the products presented high H2selective(1302.10 m L/g)and low CO_(2)yield(120.23 m L/g)in 7Ni-5Fe-Ca/H-Al(2:4)catalyst compared with current reports.Here,the abundant oxygen vacancies(Ov)in the H-Al carrier exhibited an electron-deficient nature,providing active sites for anchoring Ni O.Meanwhile,Ni O interacted with Ca_(2)Fe_(2)O_(5)to produce more defective Ovsites,which stabilized the NiO particles in the 7Ni-5Fe-Ca/H-Al(2:4)catalyst,and the interaction between the catalyst and the carrier was enhanced,leading to the reduction of weakly basic sites,this property promoted the strong adsorption of CO_(2)and H2O by the catalyst,contributing to the enhancement of efficient steam conversion and the promotion of conversion of by-products to H2.Notably,7Ni-5Fe-Ca/H-Al(2:4)catalysts maintained structural integrity after regeneration and exhibited excellent regenerability in H2selection and CO_(2)adsorption.The work provides a new idea for the study of efficient H2production from steam reforming of biomass and plastics.

In recent years, converting environmental energy into electrical energy to meet the needs of modern society for clean and sustainable energy has become a research hotspot. Electrostatic energy is a pollution-free environmental energy source. The use of electrostatic conversion devices to convert electrostatic energy into electrical energy has been proven to be a feasible solution to meet sustainable development. This paper proposes a light-controlled electrostatic conversion device(LCECD).When static electricity comes, an avalanche breakdown occurs inside the LCECD and a low resistance path is generated to clamp the voltage, thereby outputting a smooth square wave of voltage and current. Experiments have proved that LCECD can convert 30k V electrostatic pulses into usable electrical energy for the normal operation of the back-end light-emitting diode lights. In addition, the LCECD will change the parasitic capacitance after being exposed to light. For different wavelengths of light, the parasitic capacitance exhibited by the device will also be different. The smaller the parasitic capacitance of the LCECD, the higher the efficiency of its electrostatic conversion. This is of great significance to the design of electrostatic conversion devices in the future.

In sharp contrast to their pelagic relatives,the oligotrichs,the overwhelming majority of hypotrich ciliates inhabit the benthos.Only a few species,including those of the genus Hypotrichidium Ilowaisky,1921,have adapted to a planktonic lifestyle.The ontogenetic mode of the highly differentiated ciliate,Hypotrichidium tisiae(Gelei,1929)Gelei,1954,is unknown.In this study,the interphase morphology and the ontogenetic process of this species are investigated.Accordingly,the previously unidentified ciliary pattern of Hypotrichidium is redefined.The main morphogenetic features are as follows:(1)The parental adoral zone of membranelles is inherited completely by the proter and the oral primordium of the opisthe arises in a deep pouch.(2)Five frontoventral cirral anlagen(FVA)are formed:FVA I contributes to the single frontal cirrus,FVA II–IV generate three frontoventral cirral rows,FVA V migrates and forms postoral ventral cirri.(3)All marginal cirral row anlagen develop de novo:each of the two left anlagen forms a single cirral row,while the single right anlage fragments into anterior and posterior parts.(4)Two dorsal kinety anlagen occur de novo,with the right one fragmenting to form kineties 2 and 3.(5)Two long caudal cirral rows are formed at the ends of dorsal kineties 1 and 3.On the basis of the morphogenetic features and phylogenetic analyses,the assignment of Hypotrichidium to the family Spirofilidae Gelei,1929 within Postoralida is supported.The establishment of separate families for the slender“tubicolous”spirofilids and the highly helical spirofilids is also validated.
