Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging features of hepatic hemangioma compared with enhanced computed tomography

AIM:To clarify features of hepatic hemangiomas on gadolinium-ethoxybenzyl-diethylenetriaminpentaacetic acid (Gd-EOB-DTPA)-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) compared with enhanced computed tomography (CT). METHODs:Twenty-six patients with 61 hepatic hem- angiomas who underwent both Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced MRI and enhanced CT were retrospectively reviewed. Hemangioma appearances (presence of peripheral nodular enhancement, central nodular enhancement, diffuse homogenous enhancement, and arterioportal shunt during the arterial phase, fill-in enhancement during the portal venous phase, and prolonged enhancement during the equilibrium phase) on Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced MRI and enhanced CT were *** degree of contrast enhancement at the enhancing portion within the hemangioma was visually assessed using a five-point scale during each phase. For quantitative analysis, the tumor-muscle signal intensity ratio (sIR), the liver-muscle sIR, and the attenuation value of the tumor and liver parenchyma were calculated. The McNemar test and the Wilcoxon's signed rank test were used to assess the significance of differences in the appearances of hemangiomas and in the visual grade of tumor contrast enhancement between Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced MRI and enhanced CT. REsULTs:There was no significant difference between Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced MRI and enhanced CT in the presence of peripheral nodular enhancement (85% vs 82%), central nodular enhancement (3% vs 3%), diffuse enhancement (11% vs 16%), or arterioportal shunt (23% vs 34%) during arterial phase, or fill-in enhancement (79% vs 80%) during portal venous phase. Dear Editor,Nivolumab,an inhibitor of programmed cell death 1(PD-1),is an immune checkpoint inhibitor(ICI)that enhances T cell functions by preventing negative regulation of cancer immunity,and it has shown clinically significant efficacy and tolerability in various types of *** on the results of randomized phase III trials comparing nivolumab with docetaxel[1,2],nivolumab is now used in clinical practice for patients with previously treated advanced non-small cell lung cancer(NsCLC).Fur-thermore,the most recent Japan Lung Cancer society guidelines include nivolumab monotherapy in the sys-temic treatment strategy for previously treated,locally advanced or metastatic NsCLC[3].However,ICIs induce characteristic immune-related adverse events(irAEs),which are not seen with conventional cytotoxic agents or molecular targeted *** can occur in any organ system,most typically the skin,lung,and gastrointesti-nal,hepatic,and endocrine systems.

Translation and Validation of the Japanese Version of the Family sense of Coherence scale-short Form in Nurses

Nowadays, it is demanded the recycling of the dust and the sludge produced in the steel Mill, because the raw material for the iron making is soaring and also i t ’s required the environmental protect ion and the energy-saving. For this demand, Nippon steel Corporation and Nippon steel Engineering Corporation has developed and commercialized Rotary Hearth Furnace（RHF） process for recycl ing the dust and sludge from steel Mill. However the dust, as the raw material of RHF, has some difficulties to treat by RHF. First is that the dust characteristics are easy to fluctuate, because they are produced from various locations such as sinter, Blast Furnace, Basic Oxygen Furnace, and so on in steel Mill, and also the characteristics of them can’t be controlled. so RHF to be treated them is difficult to keep the stable operat ion. This paper introduces the characteristics of our RHF, which has been recycling the various kinds of the dust and which achieve the stable operat ion and the high energy saving effect.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to translate the Family sense of Coherence scale-short form (FsOC-s) into a Japanese version (J-FsOC-s) for Japanese nurses and to evaluate its reliability and validity. Methods: First, we obtained permission to translate the FsOC-s from the original author and translated it into Japanese using the translation/back translation technique. second, the J-FsOC-s was reviewed by a panel of experts in nursing research and practice, then, a validation survey was conducted. The internal consistency of the J-FsOC-s was assessed using Cronbach’s α coefficient. Test-retest reliability was examined through intra-class correlation coefficients (ICC). Construct validity was investigated by measuring the correlation coefficients between the J-FsOC-s and sense of Coherence (sOC) scale (concurrent validity) and the Family Adaptability Partnership, Growth, Affection, and Resolve Index (Family APGAR) (convergent validity). Results: A total of 374 nurses (valid response rate = 58.6%) were recruited from seven hospitals. Thirty-four participants completed the questionnaire twice at an interval of 2 - 4 weeks to test the reliability. The mean age of the participants was 35.0 years (sD = 7.6, range = 25 - 59). The mean years of experience as a registered nurse were 11.0 years (sD = 7.1, range = 5 - 36). Of the total number of participants, 53.7% had children. The J-FsOC-s showed good internal consistency (Cronbach’s α = 0.85) and test-retest reliability (ICC = 0.77). The J-FsOC-s correlated positively with the sOC scale (r = 0.41, p Conclusions: The J-FsOC-s is a reliable and valid instrument for measuring family sense of coherence in Japan.

since 1990s, the use of deicing salts （i.e., chlorides） has dramatically increased in areas with heavy snowfall in Japan. As a result, the water mixed with salts has accelerated the damage of the reinforced concrete （hereafter, RC） structures. Recently conducted inspection results of RC bridges have reported that many of the damages or deteriorations are observed at the girder ends and abutments This is caused from the water leakage due to the aged expansion joints. In general, the cost for repairing the damaged RC structures is much higher than that for renewing the expansion joints. Therefore, to prevent these damages, we developed a new highly durable jointless system, named RC plug joint, for existing RC bridges with a bridge length less than 40 meters. The RC plug joint connects the abutment＇s backwall to the superstructure＇s deck using reinforcing steel bars and fiber reinforced concrete. The newly developed RC plug joint system can prevent water leakage and allow for a smooth ride of vehicles at the joint. This paper will explore and discuss the development of the RC plug joint, analysis of conducted investigations, and future installation methods.

A?21-year-old?female visited?our?hospital?with?complaints?of?gingival?bleeding?and?swelling?of?the?left?lower?wisdom?tooth.?The?patient’s?complete?blood?count?revealed?a?marked?increase?in?white?blood?cells?and?a?decrease?in?red?blood?cells?and?an?abnormal?leukocyte?differential,?and APL?was?diagnosed?on?the?basis?of?bone?marrow?samples in?the internal?medicine?department.?The?patient?was?treated?with?all-trans-retinoic?acid combined?with?chemotherapy?and?has?maintained?clinical?and?molecular?complete?remission?at?12?months?of?follow-up. Aim: Recently, the role of feeding coparenting has gained attention in the child eating research field. The Feeding Coparenting scale (FCs), a measure of how caregivers interact with their partners when feeding their children was developed in the United states in 2019. However, there is no valid and reliable measure to assess feeding coparenting among caregivers of school-aged children in Japan. Therefore, this study aimed to develop a Japanese version of the FCs (FCs-J) questionnaire for caregivers with school-aged children. Methods: This was a web-based cross-sectional survey completed by caregivers of children aged 10-12 years. A preliminary survey using interviews and a web-based survey was conducted and found that the translated items of the FCs into Japanese were understandable to Japanese people. The developed survey was administered to parents of children at an elementary school. The reliability of the survey was assessed using both test-retest reliability and internal consistency analysis. Exploratory factor analysis was used to test construct validity, and known population validity was examined in relation to attributes, marital satisfaction, and feeding tasks. Results: Findings with 135 parents of school-aged children showed good internal reliability and validity of the FCs-J. The mean score for the overall FCs-J score was 46.2 (sD = 6.2), with Cronbach’s α of 0.72. For the subscales, Cronbach’s α ranged from 0.75 to 0.79. In sum, the present study’s results support the three-factor structure of the FCs in Japanese caregivers in Japan. Conclusions: The developed FCs-J was found to have a certain degree of reliability and validity. In this study, a Japanese version of the FCs-J was developed. .

Laparoscopic appendectomy for acute appendicitis: How to discourage surgeons using inadequate therapy

Acute appendicitis(AA) develops in a progressive and irreversible manner, even if the clinical course of AA can be temporarily modified by intentional medications. Reliable and real-time diagnosis of AA can be made based on findings of the white blood cell count and enhanced computed tomography. Emergent laparoscopic appendectomy(LA) is considered as the first therapeutic choice for AA. Interval/delayed appendectomy at 6-12 wk after disease onset is considered as unsafe with a high recurrent rate during the waiting time. However, this technique may have some advantages for avoiding unnecessary extended resection in patients with an appendiceal mass. Nonoperative management of AA may be tolerated only in children. Postoperative complications increase according to the patient's factors, and temporal avoidance of emergent general anesthesia may be beneficial for high-risk patients. The surgeon's skill and cooperation of the hospital are important for successful LA. Delaying appendectomy for less than 24 h from diagnosis is safe. Additionally, a semi-elective manner(i.e., LA within 24 h after onset of symptoms) may be paradoxically acceptable, according to the factors of the patient, physician, and institution. Prompt LA is mandatory for AA. Fortunately, the Japanese government uses a universal health insurance system, which covers LA.
