Atherosclerosis(AS)is characterized by impairment and apoptosis of endothelial cells,continuous systemic and focal inflammation and dysfunction of vascular smooth muscle cells,which is documented as the traditional cellular paradigm.However,the mechanisms appear much more complicated than we thought since a bulk of studies on efferocytosis,transdifferentiation and novel cell death forms such as ferroptosis,pyroptosis,and extracellular trap were reported.Discovery of novel pathological cellular landscapes provides a large number of therapeutic targets.On the other side,the unsatisfactory therapeutic effects of current treatment with lipid-lowering drugs as the cornerstone also restricts the efforts to reduce global AS burden.Stem cell-or nanoparticle-based strategies spurred a lot of attention due to the attractive therapeutic effects and minimized adverse effects.Given the complexity of pathological changes of AS,attempts to develop an almighty medicine based on single mechanisms could be theoretically challenging.In this review,the top stories in the cellular landscapes during the initiation and progression of AS and the therapies were summarized in an integrated perspective to facilitate efforts to develop a multi-targets strategy and fill the gap between mechanism research and clinical translation.The future challenges and improvements were also discussed.

We read with interest the article by Xing Wang,which was published in the recent issue of the World Journal of Hepatology 2023;15:1294-1306.This article focuses particularly on the prevalence and trends in the etiology of liver cirrhosis(LC),prognosis for patients suffering from cirrhosis-related complications and hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),and management strategies.The etiology of cirrhosis varies according to geographical,economic,and population factors.Viral hepatitis is the dominant cause in China.Vaccination and effective treatment have reduced the number of people with viral hepatitis,but the overall number is still large.Patients with viral hepatitis who progress over time to LC and HCC remain an important population to manage.The increased incidence of metabolic syndrome and alcohol consumption is likely to lead to a potential exponential increase in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease(MASLD)-associated LC and alcoholic liver disease in the future.Investigating the evolution of the etiology of LC is important for guiding the direction of future research and policy development.These changing trends indicate a need for greater emphasis on tackling obesity and diabetes,and implementing more effective measures to regulate alcohol consumption in order to reduce the occurrence of MASLD.In an effort to help cope with these changing trends,the authors further proposed countermeasures for healthcare authorities doctors,and patients.

Objective: To investigate the main components and potential mechanism of Shuxuening Injection(SXNI) in the treatment of myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury(MIRI) through network pharmacology and in vivo research. Methods: The Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology(TCMSP) and Pharm Mapper databases were used to extract and evaluate the effective components of Ginkgo biloba leaves, the main component of SXNI. The Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man(OMIM) and Gene Cards databases were searched for disease targets and obtain the drug target and disease target intersections. The active ingredient-target network was built using Cytoscape 3.9.1 software. The STRING database, Metascape online platform, and R language were used to obtain the key targets and signaling pathways of the anti-MIRI effects of SXNI. In order to verify the therapeutic effect of different concentrations of SXNI on MIRI in rats, 60 rats were first divided into 5 groups according to random number table method: the sham operation group, the model group, SXNI low-dose(3.68 mg/kg), medium-dose(7.35 mg/kg), and high-dose(14.7 mg/kg) groups, with 12 rats in each group. Then, another 60 rats were randomly divided into 5 groups: the sham operation group, the model group, SXNI group(14.7 mg/kg), SXNI+LY294002 group,and LY294002 group, with 12 rats in each group. The drug was then administered intraperitoneally at body weight for 14 days. The main biological processes were validated using in vivo testing. Evans blue/triphenyltetrazolium chloride(TTC) double staining, hematoxylin-eosin(HE) staining, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase d UTP nick end labeling(TUNEL) assay, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA), and Western blot analysis were used to investigate the efficacy and mechanism of SXNI in MIRI rats. Results: Eleven core targets and 30 Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG) pathways were selected. With the development of satellite miniaturization and remote sensing,the establishment of microsatellite constellations is an inevitable trend.Due to their limited size,weight,and power,spaceborne storage systems with excellent scalability,performance,and reliability are still one of the technical bottlenecks of remote sensing microsatellites.Based on the commercial off-the-shelf field-programmable gate array and memory devices,a spaceborne advanced storage system(SASS)is proposed in this paper.This work provides a dynamic programming,queue scheduling multiple-input multiple-output cache technique and a high-speed,high-reliability NAND flash controller for multiple microsatellite payload data.Experimental results show that SASS has outstanding scalability with a maximum write rate of 2429 Mb/s and preserves at least 78.53%of the performance when a single NAND flash fails.The scheduling technique effectively shortens the data scheduling time,and the data remapping method of the NAND flash controller can reduce the retention error by at least 50.73%and the program disturbance error by at least 37.80%.

Objective:To investigate whether electroacupuncture(EA) at sensitized acupoints could reduce sympathetic-sensory coupling(SSC) and neurogenic inflammatory response by interfering with 5-hydroxytryptamine(5-HT)ergic neural pathways to relieve colitis and somatic referred pain,and explore the underlying mechanisms.Methods:Rats were treated with 5% dextran sodium sulfate(DSS) solution for 7 days to establish a colitis model.Twelve rats were randomly divided into the control and model groups according to a random number table(n=6).According to the Research on Rat Acupoint Atlas",sensitized acupoints and non-sensitized acupoints were determined.Rats were randomly divided into the control,model,Zusanli-EA(ST 36),Dachangshu-EA(BL 25),and Xinshu(BL 15) groups(n=6),as well as the control,model,EA,and EA+GR113808(a 5-HT inhibitor)groups(n=6).The rats in the control group received no treatment.Acupuncture was administered on 2 days after modeling using the stimulation pavameters:1 mA,2 Hz,for 30 min,with sparse and dense waves,for 14 consecutive days.GR113808 was injected into the tail vein at 5 mg/kg before EA for 10 min for 7 consecutive days.Mechanical sensitivity was assessed with von Frey filaments.Body weight and disease activity index(DAI) scores of rats were determined.Hematoxylin and eosin staining was performed to observe colon histopathology.SSC was analyzed by immunofluorescence staining.Immunohistochemical staining was performed to detect 5-HT and substance P(SP) expressions.The calcitonin gene-related peptide(CGRP) in skin tissue and tyrosine hydroxylase(TH) protein levels in DRG were detected by Western blot.The levels of hyaluronic acid(HA),bradykinin(BK),prostaglandin I2(PGI2) in skin tissue,5-HT,tryptophan hydroxylase 1(TPH1),serotonin transporters(SERT),5-HT 3 receptor(5-HT3R),and 5-HT 4 receptor(5-HT4R) in colon tissue were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Results:BL 25 and ST 36 acupoints were determined as sensitized acupoints,and BL 15 acupoint was used as a non-sensitized acupoint

BACKGROUND The prognostic value of coronary collateral circulation(CC)in patients undergoing chronic total occlusion(CTO)percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI)is underdetermined.The purpose of the study was to assess the prognostic value of current two CC grading systems and their association with long-term outcomes in patients with CTO underwent PCI.METHODS We consecutively enrolled patients with single-vessel CTO underwent PCI between January 2010 and December2013.All patients were categorized into well-developed or poor-developed collaterals group according to angiographic Werner's CC(grade 2 vs.grade 0–1)or Rentrop(grade 3 vs.grade 0–2)grading system.The primary endpoint was 5-year cardiac death.RESULTS Of 2452 enrolled patients,the overall technical success rate was 74.1%.Well-developed collaterals were present in686 patients(28.0%)defined by Werner's CC grade 2,and in 1145 patients(46.7%)by Rentrop grade 3.According to Werner's CC grading system,patients with well-developed collaterals had a lower rate of 5-year cardiac death compared with those with poordeveloped collaterals(1.6%vs.3.3%,P=0.02),those with suboptimal recanalization was associated with higher rate of 5-year cardiac death compared with optimal recanalization(4.7%vs.0.8%,P=0.01)and failure patients(4.7%vs.1.6%,P=0.12).However,the similar effect was not shown in Rentrop grading system.CONCLUSIONS In patients with the single-vessel CTO underwent PCI,well-developed collaterals by Werner's CC definition were associated with lower rate of 5-year cardiac death.Werner's CC grading system had a greater prognostic value than Rentrop grading system in patients with CTO underwent PCI.

Cancer,a complex and multifactorial disease,presents a significant challenge to global health.Despite significant advances in surgical,radiotherapeutic and immunological approaches,which have improved cancer treatment outcomes,drug therapy continues to serve as a key therapeutic strategy.However,the clinical efficacy of drug therapy is often constrained by drug resistance and severe toxic side effects,and thus there remains a critical need to develop novel cancer therapeutics.One promising strategy that has received widespread attention in recent years is drug repurposing:the identification of new applications for existing,clinically approved drugs.Drug repurposing possesses several inherent advantages in the context of cancer treatment since repurposed drugs are typically cost-effective,proven to be safe,and can significantly expedite the drug development process due to their already established safety profiles.In light of this,the present review offers a comprehensive overview of the various methods employed in drug repurposing,specifically focusing on the repurposing of drugs to treat cancer.We describe the antitumor properties of candidate drugs,and discuss in detail how they target both the hallmarks of cancer in tumor cells and the surrounding tumor microenvironment.In addition,we examine the innovative strategy of integrating drug repurposing with nanotechnology to enhance topical drug delivery.We also emphasize the critical role that repurposed drugs can play when used as part of a combination therapy regimen.To conclude,we outline the challenges associated with repurposing drugs and consider the future prospects of these repurposed drugs transitioning into clinical application.

Superior compound coatings were prepared on CK45 steel surface by vanadium-nitrocarburizing duplex treatment in low-temperature salt bath.In this study,the microhardness,the phase constitution and the compositional distribution in the coatings prepared under different conditions were systematically characterized.The results indicated that the reactions among activated vanadium,carbon and nitrogen atoms occurred on the steel surface,leading to the formation of compound coatings composed of outermost and compound layers.The mechanism for the formation of compound layer as well as the growth kinetics of the layer was also discussed.Upon the duplex treatment,the wear and corrosion resistances of steel surface were significantly improved.It was found that the growth kinetics of compound layer obeyed the parabolic law,with the activation energy of 122.82 kJ·mol-1.

In vivo monitoring of animal physiological information plays a crucial role in promptly alerting humans to potential diseases in animals and aiding in the exploration of mechanisms underlying human diseases.Currently,implantable electrochemical microsensors have emerged as a prominent area of research.These microsensors not only fulfill the technical requirements for monitoring animal physiological information but also offer an ideal platform for integration.They have been extensively studied for their ability to monitor animal physiological information in a minimally invasive manner,characterized by their bloodless,painless features,and exceptional performance.The development of implantable electrochemical microsensors for in vivo monitoring of animal physiological information has witnessed significant scientific and technological advancements through dedicated efforts.This review commenced with a comprehensive discussion of the construction of microsensors,including the materials utilized and the methods employed for fabrication.Following this,we proceeded to explore the various implantation technologies employed for electrochemical microsensors.In addition,a comprehensive overview was provided of the various applications of implantable electrochemical microsensors,specifically in the monitoring of diseases and the investigation of disease mechanisms.Lastly,a concise conclusion was conducted on the recent advancements and significant obstacles pertaining to the practical implementation of implantable electrochemical microsensors.

Mimicking biosynthetic pathways of hongkonoids led to the development of a new Cu(Ⅰ)-catalyzed[3+2]cycloaddition ofα-hydroxyketone andβ-keto enol ethers,affording tetrahydrofuran acetals in a highly diastereoselective manner and 100%atom economy.Computational studies on the mechanism disclosed a concerted but asynchronous Michael addition/aldol reaction.Of the same importance,this methodology provides a practical biomimetic approach for one-step construction of the dibenzylbutyrolactol lignan backbone starting from two phenyl propane derivatives,opening up a powerful new approach for lignan synthesis,which is showcased by succinct total syntheses of two biologically important aryltetralin-type lignans,β-apopicropodophyllin and cycloolivil.Given the mild and operationally simple conditions,the developed chemistry might have a promising prospect in potential industrial applications.
