The column density structure of Orion A depicted by N-PDF

We have conducted a large-field simultaneous survey of 12 CO,13 CO and C18O J=1-0 emission toward the Orion A giant molecular cloud(GMC)with a sky coverage of4.4 deg2 using the Purple Mountain Observatory(PMO)-13.7 m millimeter-wavelength *** use the probability distribution function of the column density(N-PDF)to investigate the distribution of molecular hydrogen in the Orion A *** H2 column density,derived from the 13CO emission,of the GMC is dominated by a log-normal distribution in the range from4×1021 to1.5×1023 cm-2 with excesses both at the low-density and high-density *** excess of the low-density end is possibly caused by an extended and low-temperature(10 K)component with velocities in the range of 5-8 km *** with the northern sub-regions,the southern sub-regions of the Orion A GMC contain less gas with column density in NH2>1.25×1022 *** dispersions of the N-PDFs of the sub-regions are found to correlate with the evolutionary stages of the clouds across the Orion A *** structure hierarchy of Orion A GMC is explored with the DENDROGRAM algorithm,and it is found that the GMC is composed of two *** structures except one in the tree have virial parameters less than 2,indicating self-gravity is important on the spatial scales from0.3 to4 *** power-laws and departures from lognormal distributions are found at the high-density end of N-PDFs for active star-forming regions,the N-PDFs of structures in the Orion A GMC are predominantly lognormal on scales from R0.4 to 4 pc.

Effect of low-energy proton on the microstructure, martensitic transformation and mechanical properties of irradiated Ni-rich TiNi alloy thin films

Ni–48.5at%Ti thin films were irradiated in the austenite phase by different energy-level protons at a dose rate of 1.85×1012 p/(cm2·s),and the total dose was 2.0×1016 p/*** microstructures of the thin films before and after irradiation were evaluated by transmission electron microscopy(TEM)and grazing-incidence X-ray diffraction(GIXRD),which showed that the volume fraction of Ti3Ni4 phase elevated with proton energy *** influence of proton irradiation on the transformation behavior of the TiNi thin films was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC).Compared with the unirradiation film,the reverse transformation start temperatures(As)decreased by about 3°C after 120 keV *** proton irradiation also had a significant effect on the mechanical properties of the TiNi thin *** 120 keV energy proton-irradiation,the fracture strength increased by 8.44%,and the critical stress increased by 21.1%.In addition,the nanoindenter measurement image showed that the hardness of the thin films increased with the increase of proton-irradiation *** may be due to the defects caused by irradiation,which strengthen the matrix.

Symmetry properties and widths of the filamentary structures in the Orion A giant molecular cloud

We identify 225 filaments from an H2 column density map constructed using simultaneous 12CO,13CO and C18O(J=1-0) observations carried out as a part of the Milky Way Imaging Scroll Painting(MWISP) *** select 46 long filaments with lengths above 1.2 pc to analyze the filament column density *** divide the selected filaments into 397 segments and calculate the column density profiles for each *** symmetries of the profiles are *** proportion of intrinsically asymmetrical segments is 65.3%,and that of intrinsically symmetrical ones is 21.4%.The typical full width at half maximum(FWHM) of the intrinsically symmetrical filament segments is - 0.67 pc with the Plummer-like fitting,and - 0.50 pc with the Gaussian fitting,*** median FWHMs derived from the second-moment method for intrinsically symmetrical and asymmetrical profiles are - 0.44 and 0.46 pc,*** association exists between the filamentary structures and the YSOs in the region.

Assessing the performance of molecular gas clump identification algorithms

The detection of clumps(cores)in molecular clouds is an important issue in sub-millimetre ***,the completeness of the identification and the accuracy of the returned parameters of the automated clump identification algorithms are still not *** this work,we test the performance and bias of the GaussClumps,ClumpFind,FellWalker,Reinhold,and Dendrograms algorithms in identifying simulated *** designing the simulated clumps with various sizes,peak brightness,and crowdedness,we investigate the characteristics of the algorithms and their *** the aspect of detection completeness,FellWalker,Dendrograms,and GaussClumps are the first,second,and third best algorithms,*** numbers of correct identifications of the six algorithms gradually increase as the size and signal-to-noise ratio(SNRs)of the simulated clumps increase and they decrease as the crowdedness *** the aspect of the accuracy of retrieved parameters,FellWalker and Dendrograms exhibit better performance than the other *** average deviations in clump parameters for all algorithms gradually increase as the size and SNR of clumps *** of the algorithms except FellWalker exhibit significant deviation in extracting the total flux of *** together,FellWalker,GaussClumps,and Dendrograms exhibit the best performance in detection completeness and extracting *** deviation in virial parameter for the six algorithms is relatively *** applying the six algorithms to the clump identification for the Rosette molecular cloud,ClumpFind1994,ClumpFind2006,GaussClumps,FellWalker,and Reinhold exhibit performance that is consistent with the results from the simulated test.

Deposition and characterization for high-quality Ti-Ni-Cu thin films with higher Cu content

In order to attain high-quality Ti-Ni-Cu film,the surface morphologies,chemical compositions and mechanical properties of Ti-Ni-Cu thin films prepared by direct current(DC)magnetron sputtering at various processes were characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM),X-ray diffractometer(XRD)and tensile *** type of substrates,Ar pressure and sputtering power had significant effects on the quality and chemical composition of Ti-Ni-Cu thin *** with Si and SiO_(2) slides,it was easier to obtain freestanding films by adopting glass or piezoid slide as *** Ti-Ni-Cu thin film deposited at lower pressure(0.10 Pa)had a better *** surface was featured with porous structure in the Ti-Ni-Cu thin film prepared by higher Ar pressure of 0.36 *** addition,both the tensile strength and strain of annealed Ti-Ni-Cu thin film continuously increased with Ar pressure *** density contributed to the superior mechanical *** deposition rate firstly increased and then decreased with Ar pressure and sputtering power *** composition of deposited Ti-Ni-Cu film can be tailored by changing sputter *** deposited Ti-Ni-Cu thin films at different processing parameters were in amorphous *** short,the present study offered the important theoretical basis for the preparation of Ti-Ni-Cu thin film with higher quality and performance.

Imaging Carotid Plaque Burden in Living Mice via Hybrid Semiconducting Polymer Nanoparticles-Based Near-Infrared-II Fluorescence and magnetic Resonance Imaging

The majority of atherothrombotic events (e.g., cerebral or myocardial infarction) often occur as a result of plaque rupture or erosion in the carotid, and thereby it is urgent to assess plaque vulnerability and predict adverse cerebrovascular events. However, the monitoring evolution from stable plaque into life-threatening high-risk plaque in the slender carotid artery is a great challenge, due to not enough spatial resolution for imaging the carotid artery based on most of reported fluorescent probes. Herein, copolymerizing with the small molecules of acceptor-donor-acceptor-donor-acceptor (A-D-A′-D-A) and the electron-donating units (D′), the screened second near-infrared (NIR-II) nanoprobe presents high quantum yield and good stability, so that it enables to image slender carotid vessel with enough spatial resolution. Encouragingly, NIR-II nanoprobe can effectively target to intraplaque macrophage, meanwhile distinguishing vulnerable plaque in carotid atherosclerosis in living mice. Moreover, the NIR-II nanoprobe can dynamically monitor the fresh bleeding spots in carotid plaque, indicating the increased risk of plaque instability. Besides, magnetic resonance imaging is integrated with NIR-II fluorescence imaging to provide contrast for subtle structure (e.g., narrow lumen and lipid pool), via incorporating ultrasmall superparamagnetic iron oxide into the NIR-II nanoprobe. Thus, such hybrid NIR-II/magnetic resonance imaging multimodal nanoprobe provides an effective tool for assessing carotid plaque burden, selecting high-risk plaque, and imaging intraplaque hemorrhage, which is promising for reducing cerebral/ myocardial infarction-associated morbidity and mortality.

Potential role of hippocampal neurogenesis in spinal cord injury induced post-trauma depression

It has been reported both in clinic and rodent models that beyond spinal cord injury directly induced symptoms, such as paralysis, neuropathic pain, bladder/bowel dysfunction, and loss of sexual function, there are a variety of secondary complications, including memory loss, cognitive decline, depression, and Alzheimer's disease. The largescale longitudinal population-based studies indicate that post-trauma depression is highly prevalent in spinal cord injury patients. Yet, few basic studies have been conducted to address the potential molecular mechanisms. One of possible factors underlying the depression is the reduction of adult hippocampal neurogenesis which may come from less physical activity, social isolation, chronic pain, and elevated neuroinflammation after spinal cord injury. However, there is no clear consensus yet. In this review, we will first summarize the alteration of hippocampal neurogenesis post-spinal cord injury. Then, we will discuss possible mechanisms underlie this important spinal cord injury consequence. Finally, we will outline the potential therapeutic options aimed at enhancing hippocampal neurogenesis to ameliorate depression.
