Toll-like receptor 4-mediated signaling participates in apoptosis of hippocampal neurons

The phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase （PI3K）/protein kinase B （AKT） signaling pathway is considered important for cell survival and has been shown to mediate various anti-apoptotic biological effects. This study explored the role of the Toll-like receptor 4 （TLR4）-mediated PI3K/AKT-glycogen syn-thase kinase 3β （GSK-3β） signaling pathways in lipopolysaccharide-induced apoptosis in a primary culture of hippocampal neurons. Results demonstrated that the apoptotic ratio of hippocampal neurons stimulated by lipopolysaccharide was significantly higher compared with the control group. Both the expression of P-AKTser473 and P-GSK-3βSserg in hippocampal neurons stimulated by lipopolysaccharide decreased compared with the control, while the level of active Caspase-3 and the ratio of Bax/Bcl-2 were significantly increased. The level of active Caspase-3 and the ratio of Bax/Bcl-2 in hippocampal neurons treated with TLR4 antibody or the GSK-3β inhibitor, LiCl, de-creased before intervention with lipopolysaccharide, but increased after treatment with the AKT in-hibitor, LY294002. These findings suggest that the TLR4-PI3K/AKT-GSKβ signaling pathway may be involved in lipopolysaccharide-induced apoptosis of hippocampal neurons.

Porous intermetallics show potential in the field of filtration and separation as well as in the field of ***,porous Ti Fe2intermetallics were fabricated by the reactive synthesis of elemental *** phase transformation and pore formation of porous TiFe2intermetallics were investigated,and its corrosion behavior and hydrogen evolution reaction(heR)performance in alkali solution were *** TiFe2intermetallics with porosity in the range of 34.4%-56.4%were synthesized by the diffusion reaction of Ti and Fe elements,and the pore formation of porous TiFe2intermetallic compound is the result of a combination of the bridging effect and the Kirkendall *** porous TiFe2samples exhibit better corrosion resistance compared with porous 316L stainless steel,which is related to the formation of uniform nanosheets on the surface that hinder further corrosion,and porous TiFe2electrode shows the overpotential of 220.6 and 295.6 mV at 10 and 100 mA·cm-2,suggesting a good catalytic *** synthesized porous Fe-based intermetallic has a controllable pore structure as well as excellent corrosion resistance,showing its potential in the field of filtration and separation.

We study the approaches to two-dimensional integrable field theories via a six-dimensional(6 D) holomorphic Chern-Simons theory defined on twistor space. Under symmetry reduction, it reduces to a 4 D Chern-Simons theory, while under solving along fibres it leads to a four-dimensional(4 D) integrable theory, the anti-self-dual Yang-Mills or its generalizations. From both 4 D theories, various two-dimensional integrable field theories can be obtained. In this work, we try to investigate several twodimensional integrable deformations in this framework. We find that the λ-deformation, the rational η-deformation, and the generalized λ-deformation can not be realized from the 4 D integrable model approach, even though they could be obtained from the 4 D Chern-Simons theory. The obstacle stems from the incompatibility between the symmetry reduction and the boundary conditions. Nevertheless, we show that a coupled theory of the λ-deformation and the η-deformation in the trigonometric description could be obtained from the 6 D theory in both ways, by considering the case that(3, 0)-form in the 6 D theory is allowed to have zeros.

Massive machine type communication(m MTC) is one of the key application scenarios for the fifth generation mobile communication(5 G). Grant-free(GF) transmission can reduce the high signaling overhead in m MTC. Non-orthogonal multiple access(NMA) can support more users for m MTC than orthogonal frequency division multiple access(OFDMA). Applying GF transmission in NMA system becomes an active topic recently. The in-depth study on applying GF transmission in pattern division multiple access(PDMA), a competitive candidate scheme of NMA, is investigated in this paper. The definition, latency and allocation of resource and transmission mechanism for GF-PDMA are discussed in detail. The link-level and system-level evaluations are provided to verify the analysis. The analysis and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed GF-PDMA has lower latency than grant based PDMA(GB-PDMA), possesses strong scalability to confront collision and provides almost 2.15 times gain over GF-OFDMA in terms of supporting the number of active users in the system.

Glaucoma, a type of optic neuropathy, is characterized by the loss of retinal ganglion cells. It remains controversial whether c-Jun N-terminal kinase （JNK） participates in the apoptosis of retinal ganglion cells in glaucoma. This study sought to explore a possible mechanism of action of JNK signaling pathway in glaucoma-induced retinal optic nerve damage. We established a mouse model of chronic ocular hypertension by reducing the aqueous humor followed by pho- tocoagulation using the laser ignition method. Results showed significant pathological changes in the ocular tissues after the injury. Apoptosis of retinal ganglion cells increased with increased intraocular pressure, as did JNK3 mRNA expression in the retina. These data indicated that the increased expression of JNK3 mRNA was strongly associated with the increase in intraocular pressure in the retina, and correlated positively with the apoptosis of retinal ganglion cells.

We studied seed germination and early seedling growth of Pinus densata to explore the range of variability within the species and to inform afforestation practices. Phenotypes were evaluated at a forest tree nursery under conditions that support Pinus yunnanensis, one of the presumed parental species of P. densata. Seeds were col- lected from 20 open-pollinated trees within each of eight autochthonous populations representing the natural distri- bution of P. densata in China to assess variation in ger- mination traits and early seedling growth, and to examine the relationships among these traits. Results showed that seeds from all populations germinated and seedlings established successfully. There were significant differences among populations in 13 of 14 traits evaluated. Seed germination and early seedling growth were strongly related to seed size and seed weight. Bigger seeds germi- nated earlier and faster than small seeds, and seedling size was positively correlated with seed size. Some germination traits were strongly and significantly correlated with cli- matic variables associated with the provenance of the studied populations. Based on these observations, we conclude there were large, significant, and biologically important differences among P. densata populations in seed germination and seedling growth traits. The observed variability probably reflects a high degree of adaptive dif- ferentiation among populations that is likely to be relevant for future afforestation.

Implications of the Stellar Mass Density of High-z Massive Galaxies from JWST on Warm Dark Matter

A significant excess of the stellar mass density at high redshift has been discovered from the early data release of James Webb Space Telescope(JWST),and it may require a high star formation ***,this will lead to large number density of ionizing photons in the epoch of reionization(EoR),so that the reionization history will be changed,which can arise tension with the current EoR *** dark matter(WDM),via the free streaming effect,can suppress the formation of small-scale structure as well as low-mass *** provides an effective way to decrease the ionizing photons when considering a large star formation efficiency in high-z massive galaxies without altering the cosmic reionization *** the other hand,the constraints on the properties of WDM can be derived from the JWST *** this work,we study WDM as a possible solution to reconcile the JWST stellar mass density of high-z massive galaxies and reionization *** find that,the JWST high-z comoving cumulative stellar mass density alone has no significant preference for either CDM or WDM *** using the observational data of other stellar mass density measurements and reionization history,we obtain that the WDM particle mass with mw=0.51_(-0.12)^(+0.22) keV and star formation efficiency parameter f_(*)^(0)> 0.39 in 2σ confidence level can match both the JWST high-z comoving cumulative stellar mass density and the reionization history.

Road boundary detection is essential for autonomous vehicle localization and decision-making,especially under GPS signal loss and lane *** road boundary detection in structural environments,obstacle occlusions and large road curvature are two significant ***,an effective and fast solution for these problems has remained *** solve these problems,a speed and accuracy tradeoff method for LiDAR-based road boundary detection in structured environments is *** proposed method consists of three main stages:1)a multi-feature based method is applied to extract feature points;2)a road-segmentation-line-based method is proposed for classifying left and right feature points;3)an iterative Gaussian Process Regression(GPR)is employed for filtering out false points and extracting boundary *** demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method,KITTI datasets is used for comprehensive experiments,and the performance of our approach is tested under different road *** experiments show the roadsegmentation-line-based method can classify left,and right feature points on structured curved roads,and the proposed iterative Gaussian Process Regression can extract road boundary points on varied road shapes and traffic ***,the proposed road boundary detection method can achieve real-time performance with an average of 70.5 ms per frame.

At present,electrode line impedance supervision(ELIS)based protection is widely used to detect faults on grounding electrode lines,which are indispensable elements of high-voltage direct current(HVDC)*** existing theoretical analysis of measured impedance is based on lumped line model and the threshold value is generally set according to engineering experience,which have caused the dead zone problem and even ***,a study on measured impedance of ELIS-based protection and its threshold value selection method is carried out to solve this *** this study,the expressions of measured impedance under normal operation and fault conditions are deduced based on rigorous and accurate line *** on the expressions,the characteristics of the measured impedance are calculated and *** the characteristics of the measured impedance,the applicability of the protection with the traditional threshold value is further discussed and the distribution of the dead zone can be ***,the method to calculate the threshold value of ELIS-based protection is *** a proper threshold value selected by the proposed method,the dead zone of ELIS-based protection is effectively eliminated,and the protection can identify all types of faults even with large transition *** studies on PSCAD/EMTDC have been conducted to verify the conclusion.
