Runoff sensitivity to climate changes in the Longitudinal Range-Gorge Region （LRGR）： An example of the Longchuan Basin in the Upper Yangtze

The sensitivity of runoff to the climate change in the Longitudinal Range-Gorge Region (LRGR) in southwest China was investigated with a case study in the Longchuan Basin of the upper Yangtze River, where the climate change is more complex due to the influences from both global warming and local topography. Non-updating artificial neural networks were calibrated and validated at the baseline condition and were used to predict the response of runoff under 25 hypothetical climate scenarios, which were generated by adjusting the baseline temperature by -1, 0, 1, 2 and 3 degrees C and by scaling rainfall by 0%, +/-+/- 10% and +/- 20%. The results indicated that runoff is more sensitive to the increase in rainfall. The annual and seasonal runoff changes were determined by the interaction between temperature and rainfall. At seasonal scale, the direction of change in runoff is more determined by temperature in winter and spring;whereas it is more determined by rainfall in summer and autumn. The LRGR in southwest China may experience a higher frequency of floods in the wet season and more serious droughts in the dry season, if a wetter summer and warmer winter is the trend of future climate change, as predicted by many GCMs.

Analysis of the changes of volatile flavor compounds in a traditional Chinese shrimp paste during fermentation based on electronic nose,SPME-GC-MS and HS-GC-IMS

Traditionally fermented shrimp paste has a long fermentation period and is susceptible of external factors,which leads to unstable quality and limits its development and ***,the purpose of this study is to analyze the flavor changes in the shrimp paste fermentation process and screen out the key volatile aroma components in the shrimp paste to control the flavor quality of the shrimp paste *** overall odor profile was detected by the electronic nose.A total of 106 volatile flavor compounds in the shrimp paste samples at different fermentation stages were identified by solid-phase microextraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(SPME-GC-MS)and headspace-gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry(HS-GC-IMS).The main aroma components alcohols,aldehydes,pyrazines and other substances in the fermentation process showed an overall upward trend.A total of 17 key volatile aroma components in shrimp paste at different fermentation stages were identified by the relative aroma activity value(ROAV)*** combination of electronic nose,SPME-GC-MS and HS-GC-IMS could comprehensively reflect the changes of volatile components in shrimp paste at different fermentation stages,which helps to further understand the mechanism of shrimp paste flavor formation and provides a basis for the regulation of the flavor quality of shrimp paste products.

Enhanced macrophage polarization induced by COX-2 inhibitor-loaded Pd octahedral nanozymes for treatment of atherosclerosis

Inhibition of foam cell formation is considered a promising treatment method for atherosclerosis,the leading cause of cardiovascular diseases ***,currently available therapeutic strategies have shown unsatisfactory clinical ***,herein,we design aloperine(ALO)-loaded and hyaluronic acid(HA)-modified palladium(Pd)octahedral nanozymes(Pd@HA/ALO)that can synergistically scavenge reactive oxygen species(ROS)and downregulate cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2)expression to induce macrophage polarization,thus inhibiting foam cell formation to attenuate *** to the targeted effect of HA on stabilin-2 and CD44,which are overexpressed in atherosclerotic plaques,Pd@HA/ALO can actively accumulate in atherosclerotic ***,the antioxidative effects of Pd octahedral nanozymes are mediated by their intrinsic superoxide dismutase-and catalase-like activities capable of effective scavenging of *** addition,anti-inflammatory effects are mediated by controlled,on-demand near-infrared-triggered ALO release leading to inhibition of COX-2 ***,the combined therapy can promote the polarization of macrophages to the M2 subtype by upregulating Arg-1 and CD206 expression and downregulating expression of TNF-α,IL-1βand IL-6,thereby inhibiting atherosclerosis-related foam cell *** conclusion,the presented in vitro and in vivo data demonstrate that Pd@HA/ALO enhanced macrophage polarization to reduce plaque formation,identifying an attractive treatment strategy for cardiovascular disease.

Contribution of Winter SSTA in the Tropical Eastern Pacific to Changes of Tropical Cyclone Precipitation over Southeast China

Tropical cyclone precipitation(TCP)accounts for 10%-40%of the boreal summer precipitation that occurs over Southeast China(SEC),causing flood disasters and serious *** the decadal scale,TCP increases significantly in SEC while TC frequency decreases in the western North Pacific(WNP)during ***,variations in TCP and the corresponding physical mechanism are investigated in this ***,an empirical statistical method is introduced to quantify the TCP amount based on accumulated cyclone energy(ACE)and TC frequency with the TCP anomaly decomposed into three items(rainfall frequency,rainfall intensity,and nonlinear item).ACE,as the integration of TC intensity and frequency,is a more effective index than TC frequency for depicting the characteristics of TCP because the contribution of rainfall frequency represented by ACE is higher than that of TC ***,the physical mechanism affecting the WNP TC activities and TCP in SEC are *** sea surface temperature anomaly(SSTA)over the tropical eastern Pacific(TEP)in winter can trigger variations of air-sea interaction over the tropical Pacific,including low-level divergent winds,mid-tropospheric descent flows,high-level convergent winds coupled with negative anomalies of vorticity and humidity over the tropical western Pacific(TWP)in the next *** dynamic conditions provide unfavorable environments for TC activities in the WNP and constrain TCP in ***,more significantly negative SSTA events in the TEP facilitate enhanced ACE along with positive relative vorticity,relative humidity,and upwelling vertical winds anomalies over the coast of SEC after 1998,which is a reasonable explanation for the increasing TCP in SEC.

Iron-based and BRD_(4)-downregulated strategy for amplified ferroptosis based on pH-sensitive/NIR-Ⅱ-boosted nano-matchbox

Ferroptosis(FPT),a novel form of programmed cell death,is characterized by overwhelming iron/reactive oxygen species(ROS)-dependent accumulation of lipid peroxidation(LPO).However,the insufficiency of endogenous iron and ROS level limited the FPT therapeutic efficacy to a large *** overcome this obstacle,the bromodomain-containing protein 4(BRD_(4))-inhibitor(+)-JQ1(JQ1)and iron-supplement ferric ammonium citrate(FAC)-loaded gold nanorods(GNRs)are encapsulated into the zeolitic imidazolate framework-8(ZIF-8)to form matchbox-like GNRs@JF/ZIF-8 for the amplified FPT *** existence of matchbox(ZIF-8)is stable in physiologically neutral conditions but degradable in acidic environment,which could prevent the loaded agents from prematurely ***,GNRs as the drug-carriers induce the photothermal therapy(PTT)effect under the irradiation of near-infraredⅡ(NIR-Ⅱ)light owing to the absorption by localized surface plasmon resonance(LSPR),while the hyperthermia also boosts the JQ1 and FAC releasing in the tumor microenvironment(TME).On one hand,the FAC-induced Fenton/Fenton-like reactions in TME can simultaneously generate iron(Fe^(3+)/Fe^(2+))and ROS to initiate the FPT treatment by LPO *** the other hand,JQ1 as a small molecule inhibitor of BRD_(4)protein can amplify FPT through downregulating the expression of glutathione peroxidase 4(GPX4),thus inhibiting the ROS elimination and leading to the LPO *** in vitro and in vivo studies reveal that this p H-sensitive nano-matchbox achieves obvious suppression of tumor growth with good biosafety and *** a result,our study points out a PTT combined iron-based/BRD_(4)-downregulated strategy for amplified ferrotherapy which also opens the door of future exploitation of ferrotherapy systems.

Mechanism of action of protopanaxadiol ginsenosides on hepatocellular carcinoma and network pharmacological analysis

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is one of the most prevalent malignancies globally, posing a major challenge to global health care. Protopanaxadiol ginsenosides(PDs) have been believed to significantly improve liver diseases. PDs, such as Rg_(3), have been developed as a new class of anti-cancer *** Rb_(1), Rd, Rg_(3), and Rh_(2) exhibit effective anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor *** have confirmed that PDs could be used to treat HCC. However, the mechanism of action of PDs on HCC remains unclear. In the study, we reviewed the anti-HCC effects and mechanisms of PDs including Rb_(1), Rd, Rg_(3), Rg_5, Rh_(2), Rk_(1), and Compound K(CK). Then, we searched for relevant targets of PDs and HCC from databases and enriched them for analysis. Subsequently, molecular docking was simulated to reveal molecular mechanisms. We found that PDs may treat HCC through multiple signaling pathways and related targets. PDs could inhibit the proliferation, invasion, and metastasis of HCC while promoting apoptosis and inducing differentiation. In conclusion, this review and network pharmacological analysis might offer a direction for in-depth research on related mechanisms. These insights will aid in the direction of further pharmacological studies and the development of safe and effective clinical drugs.

Prognostic value of pretreatment contrast-enhanced computed tomography in esophageal neuroendocrine carcinoma: A multicenter follow-up study

BACKGROUND The rare incidence of esophageal neuroendocrine carcinoma(NEC)and limited treatment experience result in insufficient clinical observations and unsuitable guidelines for its *** To investigate the prognostic value of pretreatment contrast-enhanced computed tomography(CT)characteristics in patients with esophageal *** Seventy-seven esophageal NEC patients who received contrast-enhanced CT at two hospitals were enrolled in this study from June 2014 to December *** clinical features and image characteristics were recorded *** survival analysis was performed using the Kaplan-Meier method and log-rank test,and multivariate analysis was carried out with a Cox proportional hazards *** The multivariate analysis performed using the Cox proportional hazards model showed that N stage,adjuvant chemotherapy,and degree of enhancement were independent prognostic factors for overall survival(OS).Meanwhile,adjuvant chemotherapy was an independent prognostic factor for progression-free survival(PFS).The hazard ratios(HRs)of N stage,adjuvant chemotherapy,and degree of enhancement(mild vs moderate/marked)for OS were 0.426(P=0.024),3.862(P=0.006),and 2.169/0.809(P=0.037),*** HR of adjuvant chemotherapy for PFS was 6.432(P<0.001).Adjuvant chemotherapy was significantly associated with degree of enhancement(P=0.018).CONCLUSION Adjuvant chemotherapy is an independent prognostic factor for OS and ***,N stage and degree of enhancement are prognostic factors for OS in patients with esophageal NEC.
