The instability of p-channel low-temperature polycrystalline silicon thin film transistors(poly-Si TFTs)is investigated under negative gate bias stress(NBS)in this ***,a series of negative bias stress experiments is performed,the significant degradation behaviors in current-voltage characteristics are *** the stress voltage decreases from-25 V to-37 V,the threshold voltage and the sub-threshold swing each show a continuous shift,which is induced by gate oxide trapped charges or interface ***,low frequency noise(LFN)values in poly-Si TFTs are measured before and after negative bias *** flat-band voltage spectral density is extracted,and the trap concentration located near the Si/SiO2 interface is also ***,the degradation mechanism is discussed based on the current-voltage and LFN results in poly-Si TFTs under NBS,finding out that Si-OH bonds may be broken and form Si*and negative charge OH-under negative bias stress,which is demonstrated by the proposed negative charge generation model.

Excessive dexamethasone (Dex) administrated into pregnant mice during critical periods of palatal development can produce a high incidence of cleft palate. Its mechanisms remain unknown. Vitamin B12 has been shown to antagonize the tera- togenic effects of Dex, which, however, remains controversial. In this study, we investigated the effects of Dex and vitamin B12 on murine embryonic palatal shelf fusion using organ culture of murine embryonic shelves. The explanted palatal shelves on em- bryonic day 14 (E14) were cultured for 24, 48, 72 or 96 h in different concentrations of Dex and/or vitamin B12. The palatal shelves were examined histologically for the morphological alterations on the medial edge epithelium (MEE) and fusion rates among different groups. It was found that the palatal shelves were not fused at 72 h or less of culture in Dex group, while they were completely fused in the control and vitamin B12-treated groups at 72 and 96 h, respectively. The MEE still existed and proliferated. In Dex+vitamin B12 group the palatal shelves were fused at each time point in a similar rate to controls. These results may suggest that Dex causes teratogenesis of murine embryonic palatal shelves and vitamin B12 prevents the teratogenic effect of Dex on palatogenesis on murine embryos in vitro.

Quantitative estimation of fertilizer requirements can help to increase maize （Zea mays L.） yields and improve the fertilizer use efficiency. The model for the Quantitative Evaluation of the Fertility of Tropical Soils （QUEFTS） was calibrated for maize by use of soil fertility data and fertilizer trials at different sites of the Huang Huai Hai river plain in China. The QUEFTS model accounts for interactions between nitrogen （N）, phosphorus （P） and potassium （K）. It describes the effects of soil characteristics on maize yields in four steps：（1） assessment of the potential supply of N, P and K based on soil chemical data; （2） calculation of the actual uptake of N, P and K, in function of the potential supply as determined in step 1 ; （3） draft the yield ranges as a function of the actual uptake of N, P and K as determined in step 2; （4） calculation of the maize yield based on the three yield ranges established in step 3. Data of field experiments with different fertilization treatments of various regions in China during the years of 1985 to 1995 were used to calibrate the QUEFTS model for summer maize. In step 1 the N, P and K recovered from their amount applied were described by new equations. The minimum and maximum accumulated N, P and K （kg grain kg^-1） in summer maize were determined as （21-64）, （126-384） and （20-90）, respectively. The simulated yields were in good agreement with the observed ones. It was concluded that the calibrated and adjusted QUEFTS model could be useful to improve fertilizer recommendations for maize in the Huang Huai Hai plain of China.

BACKGROUND Since the acute fibrinous and organizing pneumonia(AFOP) was first described by Beasley in 2002, some case reports of patients aged from 38 d to 80 years have been published worldwide, but there is still no standard therapy for this disease and the treatment methods remain controversial. Both steroid and immunosuppressive agents, such as cyclophosphamide or mycophenolate mofetil, have been reported to be effective in some studies, but with many side effects, especially in patients of advanced age. CASE SUMMARY We herein report an 81-year-old female patient who was admitted to our hospital due to dry cough, and breathlessness for 1 mo. She was treated with broadspectrum antibiotics and anti-fungal therapy, but without improvement in both symptoms and radiological findings, and her respiratory status worsened, and she required bed rest almost the whole day. Computed tomography-guided percutaneous needle lung biopsy was performed and histopathology examination confirmed the diagnosis of AFOP. She was then successfully treated with a steroid monotherapy, which resulted in a satisfactory clinical outcome without serious complications. CONCLUSION We conclude that complete remission of AFOP can be achieved by steroid monotherapy in patients of advanced age.

AIM: To investigate the number of intestinal immunoglobulin A (IgA+) plasma cells and expression of intestinal IgA in mice with acute liver necrosis. METHODS: A model of acute liver necrosis was established by intraperitoneal injection of galactosamine (GalN) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Sixty mice were randomly divided into one of 4 equal groups: normal control, acute liver necrosis, LPS, or GalN. Hematoxylin and eosin staining, immunohistochemistry, and an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay were employed to assess liver and intestinal injury, count intestinal IgA+ plasma cells, and measure the expression level of IgA and interferon γ (IFN-γ) in the small intestinal mucosa of mice. RESULTS: Injured intestinal mucosa was observed in the acute liver necrosis group but not in the normal, LPS or GalN groups. Compared with the normal group,intestinal IgA+ plasma cells were slightly decreased in the LPS and GalN groups [429 ± 20 per high power f ield (HPF), 406 ± 18/HPF, respectively], whereas they were markedly decreased in the acute liver necrosis group (282 ± 17/HPF vs 495 ± 26/HPF in normal group, P 0.05). CONCLUSION: Intestinal IgA+ plasma cells and IgA expression levels indicating that mucosal immune barrier dysfunction, does exist in acute liver necrosis.

Aim To investigate the effect of DAPT （γ-secretase inhibitor） on the growth of human tongue carcinoma cells and to determine the molecular mechanism to enable the potential application of DAPT to the treatment of tongue carcinoma. Methodology Human tongue carcinoma Tca8113 cells were cultured with DAPT. Cell growth was determined using Indigotic Reduction method. The cell cycle and apoptosis were analyzed by flow cytometry. Real-time PCR and Immuno-Fluorescence （IF） were employed to determine the intracellular expression levels. Results DAPT inhibited the growth of human tongue carcinoma Tca8113 cells by inducing G0-G1 cell cycle arrest and apoptosis, The mRNA levels of Hairy/Enhancer of Split-1 （Hes-1）, a target of Notch activation, were reduced by DAPT in a dose-dependent manner. Coincident with this observation, DAPT induced a dose-dependent promotion of constitutive Caspase-3 in Tca8113 cells. Conclusion DAPT may have a therapeutic value for human tongue carcinoma. Moreover, the effects of DAPT in tumor inhibition may arise partly via the modulation of Notch- 1 and Caspase-3.
