Inhalation of hydrogen gas reduces liver injury during major hepatotectomy in swine

AIM： To study the effect of H2 gas on liver injury in massive hepatectomy using the Intermittent Pringle maneuver in swine. METHODS： Male Bama pigs （n = 14） treated with ketamine hydrochloride and Sumianxin Ⅱ as induc- tion drugs followed by inhalation anesthesia with 2% isoflurane, underwent 70% hepatotectomy with loss of bleeding less than 50 mL, and with hepatic pedicle occlusion for 20 min, were divided into two groups： Hydrogen-group （n = 7）, the pigs with inhalation of 2% hydrogen by the tracheal intubation during major hepa- totectomy; Contrast-group （n= 7）, underwent 70% hepatotectomy without inhalation of hydrogen. Hemo- dynamic changes and plasma concentrations of alanine aminotransferase （ALT）, aspartate aminotransferase （AST）, hyaluronic acid （HA）, tumor necrosis factor-α （TNF-α）, interleukin-6 （IL-6）, and malondialdehyde （MDA） in liver tissue were measured at pre-operation, post-hepatotectomy （PH） 1 h and 3 h. The apoptosis and proliferating cell nuclear antigen （PCNA） expres- sion in liver remnant were evaluated at PH 3 h. Then we compared the two groups by these marks to evalu- ate the effect of the hydrogen in the liver injury during major hepatotectomy with the Pringle Maneuver in the swine. RESULTS： There were no significant differences in body weight, blood loss and removal liver weight be- tween the two groups. There was no significant differ- ence in changes of portal vein pressure between two groups at pre-operation, PH 30 min, but in hydrogen gas treated-group it slightly decrease and lower than its in Contrast-group at PH 3 h, although there were no significant difference （P = 0.655）. ALT and AST in Hydrogen-group was significantly lower comparing to Contrast-group （P = 0.036, P = 0.011, vs P = 0.032, P = 0.013） at PH 1 h and 3 h, although the two groups all increased. Regeneration of islet β-cells in tree shrews and rats

Backgroud: Current understanding of injury and regeneration of islet β-cells in diabetes is mainly based on rodent studies. The tree shrew is now generally accepted as being among the closest living relatives of primates, and has been widely used in animal experimentation. However, there are few reports on islet cell composition and regeneration of β-cells in tree ***: In this study, we examined the changes in islet cell composition and regeneration of β-cells after streptozotocin(STZ) treatment in tree shrews compared with Sprague-Dawley rats. Injury and regeneration of islet β-cells were observed using hematoxylin and eosin(HE) staining and immunohistochemical staining for insulin, glucagon, somatostatin and ***: Our data showed that in rats islet injury was most obvious on day 3 after injection, and islet morphologies were significantly restored by day 21. Regeneration of islet β-cells was very pronounced in rats, and mainly involved regeneration of centro-acinar cells and transformation of extra-islet ductal cells. In tree shrews, the regeneration of islet β-cells was not as significant. On days 3 and 7, only scattered regenerated cells were observed in the remaining islets. Further, no regeneration of centro-acinar cells was ***: The results suggest that the repair mechanism of islet β-cells in tree shrews is similar to that of humans.

Unraveling the significance of cobalt on transformation kinetics,crystallography and impact toughness in high-strength steels

This work reveals the significant effects of cobalt(Co)on the microstructure and impact toughness of as-quenched highstrength steels by experimental characterizations and thermo-kinetic *** results show that the Co-bearing steel exhibits finer blocks and a lower ductile-brittle transition temperature than the steel without ***,the Co-bearing steel reveals higher transformation rates at the intermediate stage with bainite volume fraction ranging from around 0.1 to *** improved impact toughness of the Co-bearing steel results from the higher dense block boundaries dominated by the V1/V2 variant ***,the addition of Co induces a larger transformation driving force and a lower bainite start temperature(BS),thereby contributing to the refinement of blocks and the increase of the V1/V2 variant *** findings would be instructive for the composition,microstructure design,and property optimization of high-strength steels.

The development of flexible supercapacitors(FSCs) capable of operating at high temperatures is crucial for expanding the application areas and operating conditions of supercapacitors. Gel polymer electrolytes and electrode materials stand as two key components that significantly impact the efficacy of hightemperature-tolerant FSCs(HT-FSCs). They should not only exhibit high electrochemical performance and excellent flexibility, but also withstand intense thermal stress. Considerable efforts have been devoted to enhancing their thermal stability while maintaining high electrochemical and mechanical performance. In this review, the fundamentals of HT-FSCs are outlined. A comprehensive overview of state-of-the-art progress and achievements in HT-FSCs, with a focus on thermally stable gel polymer electrolytes and electrode materials is provided. Finally, challenges and future perspectives regarding HT-FSCs are discussed, alongside strategies for elevating operational temperatures and *** review offers both theoretical foundations and practical guidelines for designing and manufacturing HT-FSCs, further promoting their widespread adoption across diverse fields.

Low-cost and fluoride-free synthesis of MFI zeolite nanosheets with enhanced stability for benzene alkylation with ethanol

Zeolite nanosheets with a short b-axis thickness are highly desirable in lots of catalytic reactions due to their reduced diffusion resistance. Nevertheless, conventional synthesis methods usually require expensive structure-directing agents(SDAs), pricey raw materials, and eco-unfriendly fluorine-containing additives. Here, we contributed a cost-effective and fluoride-free synthesis method for synthesizing high-quality MFI zeolite nanosheets through a Silicalite-1(Sil-1) seed suspension and urea cooperative strategy, only with inexpensive colloidal silica as the Si source. Our approach was effective for synthesizing both Sil-1 and aluminum-containing ZSM-5 nanosheets. By optimizing key synthesis parameters,including seed aging time, seed quantity, and urea concentration, we achieved precise control over the crystal face aspect ratio and b-axis thickness. We also revealed a non-classical oriented nanosheet growth mechanism, where Sil-1 seeds induced the formation of quasi-ordered precursor particles, and the(010)crystal planes of these particles facilitated urea adsorption, thereby promoting c-axis-oriented *** obtained ZSM-5 nanosheets exhibited exceptional catalytic performance in the benzene alkylation with ethanol, maintaining stability for over 500 h, which is 5 times longer than traditional ZSM-5 catalysts. Furthermore, large-scale production of ZSM-5 nanosheets was successfully carried out in a 3 L highpressure autoclave, yielding samples consistent with those from laboratory-scale synthesis. This work marks a significant step forward in the sustainable and efficient production of MFI nanosheets using inexpensive and environmentally friendly raw materials, offering the broad applicability in catalysis.

The operation of aqueous zinc-ion batteries in flexible energy storage field is plagued by the uncontrollable growth of Zn-dendrite and inevitable freeze of water below 0 ℃.Therefore,it is necessary to design a hydrogel electrolyte with good mechanical property and freezing resistance to uniform the Zn-deposition and resist flexibility loss at low *** find that the mechanical property(strength and toughness)of hydrogel electrolyte has a significant impact on the suppression of dendrite growth and the uniform deposition of zinc ***,a polyacrylate hydrogel is prepared in one step by ultraviolet(UV)curing method with Zn(CF_(3)SO_(3))_(2)salt and polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)addition to increase the antifreezing ability and mechanical *** adsorption of water molecules by 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate(HEA)and PVA reduces the freezing point of the hydrogel,which is beneficial for enhancing the electrochemical stability at low *** this basis,the Zn-symmetrical battery with hydrogel electrolyte has a long lifespan of 4710 h at 0.5 mA·cm^(-2)and 0.5 mAh·cm^(-2)at room ***,the hydrogel electrolyte exhibits an outstanding stability at low temperature of^(-2)0 ℃,the lifespan of symmetrical battery reaches to 4000 h at 0.5 mA·cm^(-2)and 0.5 mAh·cm^(-2).The assembled full cell with NaV3O8·1.5H_(2)O(NVO)cathode and hydrogel electrolyte possesses a high capacity retention ratio of 77%after 10,000 cycles at^(-2)0 ℃.The flexible cell can power light-emitting diode(LED)lamp under bending,warping and cutting without liquid leakage and an electronic watch at the operating temperature of^(-2)0 ℃.
