A new imaging mode based on X-ray CT as prior image and sparsely sampled projections for rapid clinical proton CT

Proton computed tomography(CT)has a distinct practical significance in clinical *** eliminates 3–5%errors caused by the transformation of Hounsfield unit(HU)to relative stopping power(RSP)values when using X-ray CT for positioning and treatment planning systems(TPSs).Following the development of FLASH proton therapy,there are increased requirements for accurate and rapid positioning in ***,a new rapid proton CT imaging mode is proposed based on sparsely sampled *** proton beam was boosted to 350 MeV by a compact proton linear accelerator(LINAC).In this study,the comparisons of the proton scattering with the energy of 350 MeV and 230 MeV are conducted based on GEANT4 *** the sparsely sampled information associated with beam acquisitions at 12 angles is not enough for reconstruction,X-ray CT is used as a prior *** RSP map generated by converting the X-ray CT was constructed based on Monte Carlo *** the estimation of the most likely path(MLP),the prior image-constrained compressed sensing(PICCS)algorithm is used to reconstruct images from two different phantoms using sparse proton projections of 350 MeV parallel proton *** results show that it is feasible to realize the proton image reconstruction with the rapid proton CT imaging proposed in this *** can produce RSP maps with much higher accuracy for TPSs and fast positioning to achieve ultra-fast imaging for real-time image-guided radiotherapy(IGRT)in clinical proton therapy applications.

Proton FLASH therapy with an ultra-high dose rate is in urgent need of more accurate treatment plan system(TPS)to promote the development of proton computed tomography(CT)without intrinsic error compared with the transformation from X-ray *** paper presents an imaging mode of proton CT based on static superconducting gantry different from the conventional rotational *** beam energy for proton CT is fixed at 350 MeV,which is boosted by a compact proton linac from 230 MeV,and then delivered by the gantry to scan the patient’s body for proton *** study demonstrates that the static superconducting gantry-based proton CT is effective in clinical *** particular,the imaging mode,which combines the relative stopping power(RSP)map from X-ray CT as prior knowledge,can produce much a higher accuracy RSP map for TPSs and positioning and achieve ultra-fast image for real-time image-guided *** paper presents the conceptual design of a boosting linac,static superconducting gantry and proton CT imaging *** feasibility of energy enhancement is verified by simulation,and results from Geant4 simulations and reconstruction algorithms are presented,including the simulation verification of the advantage of the imaging mode.

Design and implementation of power and phase feedback control system for ICRH on EAST

Ion cyclotron wave resonance heating(ICRH) is one of the most important auxiliary methods to heat plasma in the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak(EAST). Several megawatts of power is transmitted through separate coaxial lines and coupled with the plasma through arrays of loop antennas. The parameters of the ICRH system, including the injected power and phasing between antenna straps, are critical to the coupling efficiency of the power as well as the resulting impact on the heating efficiency. In this paper, we present a system for feedback control of the phase between the current straps and the ICRH power on EAST. The feedback control system was tested using both a matched dummy load and a plasma load, and it successfully maintained stable operation in the 2016 EAST campaign. Good control of the injected power and wave phases was achieved during edgelocalized mode operation.

The development of a high-gradient accelerating structure is underway to construct a compact proton linear accelerator for cancer *** experiments and numerous studies are being conducted to develop compact linear accelerators for proton *** of the electromagnetic and mechanical design has been performed to simplify the manufacturing process and reduce costs.A novel high-gradient structure with a low relativistic proton velocity(β),v/c=0.38,was designed,fabricated,and tested at high *** first full-scale prototype was also successfully tested with high radio frequency(RF)power,a repetition rate of 50 Hz,and pulse length of 3μs to reach a high-gradient of 46 MV/m using a 50 MW S-band klystron power supply obtained from the Shanghai Soft X-ray Free Electron Laser *** is the first high-power test in China,which is in line with the expected experimental *** study presents preliminary high-power testing of S-band standing wave accelerating structures with 11 *** work aims to verify the feasibility of using a high-gradient RF accelerating structure in compact proton therapy *** cold test of the prototype cavity was completed in *** of the high-power RF test setup,the process of RF conditioning,and the high-power results are described.

RT Leonis Minoris:an Unstable W Ursae Majoris System with a Spotted Component

Complete BV light curves of the W UMa type binary RT LMi are presented. From the observations, four times of minimum light were determined. Based on the new times of minimum light and those collected from the literature, changes in the orbital period of the system were found and analyzed with Kalimeris et al.'s method. The result shows that the orbital period possibly oscillates with a cycle of about 64 years and an amplitude of 1.2 × 10-6 days. The present CCD photometric observations reveal that the light curves are obviously asymmetrical, and show a positive O'Connell effect, while the light curves obtained in 1982 exhibit a negative O'Connell effect. The present light curves were analyzed by means of the latest version of the Wilson-Devinney code, which was also used to correct the photometric effects, including the distortion on the radial-velocity curves obtained by Rucinski et al. The following absolute dimensions have been derived: MI -1.28 ±0.08 M⊙, M2 = 0.48 ±0.06 M⊙, R1 = 1.28 ±0.06 R⊙, R2 = 0.83 ±0.05 R⊙, L1 = 1.88±0.12 L⊙, L2 = 0.77±0.08 L⊙, and A = 2.64±0.02 R⊙. The asymmetry of the light curves can be explained by a model with a cool spot on the secondary component. The orbital period modulation can be reproduced by a magnetic activity cycle model of the secondary component with ΔJ = 5.6 × 1046 g cm2 s-1, ΔΩ/Ω = 8.8 × 10-4, and B = 5.1 × 103 G.

An in-depth Exploration of LAMOST Unknown Spectra Based on Density Clustering

Large sky Area Multi-Object fiber Spectroscopic Telescope(LAMOST) has completed the observation of nearly 20 million celestial objects,including a class of spectra labeled “Unknown.” Besides low signal-to-noise ratio,these spectra often show some anomalous features that do not work well with current *** this paper,a total of 637,889 “Unknown” spectra from LAMOST DR5 are selected,and an unsupervised-based analytical framework of “Unknown” spectra named SA-Frame(Spectra Analysis-Frame) is provided to explore their origins from different *** SA-Frame is composed of three parts:NAPC-Spec clustering,characterization and origin ***,NAPC-Spec(Nonparametric density clustering algorithm for spectra) characterizes different features in the “unknown” spectrum by adjusting the influence space and divergence distance to minimize the effects of noise and high dimensionality,resulting in 13 ***,characteristic extraction and representation of clustering results are carried out based on spectral lines and continuum,where these 13 types are characterized as regular spectra with low S/Ns,splicing problems,suspected galactic emission signals,contamination from city light and un-gregarious type ***,a preliminary analysis of their origins is made from the characteristics of the observational targets,contamination from the sky,and the working status of the *** results would be valuable for improving the overall data quality of large-scale spectral surveys.

Ideal Bi‑Based Hybrid Anode Material for Ultrafast Charging of Sodium‑Ion Batteries at Extremely Low Temperatures

Sodium-ion batteries have emerged as competitive substitutes for low-temperature applications due to severe capacity loss and safety concerns of lithium-ion batteries at−20°C or ***,the key capability of ultrafast charging at ultralow temperature for SIBs is rarely ***,a hybrid of Bi nanoparticles embedded in carbon nanorods is demonstrated as an ideal material to address this issue,which is synthesized via a high temperature shock *** a hybrid shows an unprecedented rate performance(237.9 mAh g^(−1)at 2 A g^(−1))at−60℃,outperforming all reported SIB anode *** with a Na_(3)V_(2)(PO_(4))_(3)cathode,the energy density of the full cell can reach to 181.9 Wh kg^(−1)at−40°*** on this work,a novel strategy of high-rate activation is proposed to enhance performances of Bi-based materials in cryogenic conditions by creating new active sites for interfacial reaction under large current.

Proton linac-based therapy facility for ultra-high dose rate (FLASH) treatment

As an advanced treatment method in the past five years,ultra-high dose rate(FLASH)radiotherapy as a breakthrough and milestone in radiotherapy development has been verified to be much less harmful to healthy tissues in different *** treatments require an instantaneous dose rate as high as hundreds of grays per second to complete the treatment in less than 100 *** proton therapy facilities with the spread-out of the Bragg peak formed by different energy layers,to our knowledge,cannot easily achieve an adequate dose rate for FLASH treatments because the energy layer switch or gantry rotation of current facilities requires a few seconds,which is relatively long.A new design for a therapy facility based on a proton linear accelerator(linac)for FLASH treatment is proposed *** is designed under two criteria:no mechanical motion and no magnetic field *** new therapy facility can achieve an ultrahigh dose rate of up to 300 Gy/s;however,it delivers an instantaneous dose of 30 Gy within 100 ms to complete a typical FLASH *** design includes a compact proton linac with permanent magnets,a fast beam kicker in both azimuth and elevation angles,a fixed gantry with a static superconducting coil to steer proton bunches with all energy,a fast beam scanner using radio-frequency(RF)deflectors,and a fast low-level RF *** relevant principles and conceptual proposals are presented herein.
