AIM:To determine the role of the fecal immunochemical test(FIT),used to evaluate fecal hemoglobin concentration,in the prediction of histological grade and risk of colorectal ***:We enrolled 17881 individuals who attended the two-step colorectal cancer screening program in a single hospital between January 2010 and October *** was recommended to the participants with an FIT of≥12 ngHb/mL *** classified colorectal lesions as cancer(C),advanced adenoma(AA),adenoma(A),and others(O)by their colonoscopic and histological *** linear regression analysis adjusted for age and gender was used to determine the association between the FIT results and colorectal tumor *** risk of adenomatous neoplasia was estimated by calculating the positive predictive values for different FIT ***:The positive rate of the FIT was 10.9%(1948/17881).The attendance rate for colonoscopy was 63.1%(1229/1948).The number of false positive results was *** these 1229 cases,the numbers of O,A,AA,and C were 759,221,201,and 48,*** analysis revealed a positive association between histological grade and FIT concentration(β=0.088,P0.95,P<0.001).CONCLUSION:Higher FIT concentrations are associated with more advanced histological *** prediction for colorectal neoplasia based on individual FIT concentrations is significant and may help to improve the performance of screening programs.

将改良式溶胶-凝胶法制备的酸性触媒TiO2/SO24-涂布于不锈钢网上,并利用自行设计之批次式光催化反应器,在三组近紫外灯管(波长为365nm,光强度为2.0mW/cm2)照射下,进行CO2光催化还原反应操作参数(还原剂种类、CO2初始浓度和反应温度)之影响研究.结果显示,使用氢气为还原剂可获得最高的光催化还原速率,光还原反应之主要气态产物为CO和甲烷,其次为微量的乙烯与乙烷.同时,光催化还原速率亦随着CO2初始浓度及反应温度的提高而增加.FT-IR光谱分析发现,TiO2/SO42-光触媒表面有甲酸、甲醇、碳酸盐、甲酸盐及甲酸甲酯等产物之存在.TiO2/SO42-光触媒催化还原CO2有两种可能反应路径,其中一种反应路径生成CO,CH4,C2H4及C2H6等气态产物;而另一种反应路径则生成CO23a-ds,CH3OHads,HCOOa-ds,HCOOHads,HCOHads与HCOOCH3ads等吸附在光触媒表面的产物.

Gastric juice acidity in upper gastrointestinal diseases

AIM: To search the independent factors determining gastric juice acidity and to investigate the acidity of gastric juices in various benign and malignant upper gastrointestinal diseases. METHODS: Fasting gastric juice acidity of 165 healthysubjects and 346 patients with esophageal ulcer (n = 21), gastric ulcer (n = 136), duodenal ulcer (n = 100) or gastric cancer (n = 89) were measured and compared. Additionally, gastric specimens were taken from the antrum and body for rapid urease test and histological examination. RESULTS: Multivariate analysis revealed that bile stain of gastric juice, high acute inflammatory score of the corpus, and atrophy of the corpus were independent risk factors for the development of gastric hypoacidity with odds ratios of 3.1 (95% CI: 1.3-7.3), 3.1 (95% CI: 1.2-7.9) and 3.5 (95% CI: 1.3-9.2). Esophageal ulcer and duodenal ulcer patients had a lower pH level (1.9 and 2.1 vs 2.9, both P < 0.05) of gastric juices than healthy subjects. In contrast, gastric ulcer and gastric cancer patients had a higher pH level (3.4 and 6.6 vs 2.9, both P < 0.001) than healthy controls. Hypoacidity existed in 22%, 5%, 29%, 5% and 88% of healthy subjects, esophageal ulcer, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer and gastric cancer patients, respectively. CONCLUSION: Bile reflux, atrophy and dense neutrophil infiltrate of the corpus are three independent factors determining the acidity of gastric juice.

Hong Kong Civic Education Policy from 1984 to 2014： An Historical Comparative Analysis

This paper aims to the analysis of civic education policy of the two govemments of Hong Kong, the British Colony before 1997 and the Chinese Special Administrative Region after 1997. Hong Kong people own questionable identities, neither British citizens nor Chinese subjects. Basically, the decolonization showed that the policy of domestication was implemented during the transition period of Hong Kong where the government patronized and empowered the Hong Kong people through enhancing human rights and developing political democratization. After handing over of sovereignty, the education policy made the contents of civic education more patriotic, cultural hegemonic and national ideological. The intentions were quite obviously presented in policy documents and responded in the historical contexts. The historical comparison intends to get the expandable interpretation of the scenario of education policy in this period ofHong Kong.

Population aging has developed into a significant area of concern in developed countries, especially in relation to thepreservation of functional independence and the quality of life (QoL). However, information on the contribution ofsex differences in quality of life and cognitive function is scarce. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate potentialdifferences in cognitive function and QoL between males and females. For this study, we recruited 382 healthy subjectsaged 19–79 years from communities in Southern Taiwan region,China. Cognitive function and QoL were assessed using the UCSD Performance-based Skills Assessment, Brief Version (UPSA-B) and World Health Organization Quality ofLife Instruments (WHOQOL-BREF), respectively. The effects of sex, age groups, and interaction of sex and ageon the UPSA-B and WHOQOL-BREF scores were examined. We found that the financial and communicationdomains of the UPSA-B showed declining trends with age in both sexes, although these trends were more obviousin females than in males. In the domain of Physical Capacity, QoL showed an age-increased trend in males, whileQoL in the Environment domain showed an age-increased trend in females. Regarding the relationships betweencognitive function and QoL, we found that the financial skill and communication skill of UPSA-B was positivelycorrelated to the psychological well-being domain of WHOQOL-BREF, in males of age <40 years. In conclusion,our findings demonstrate differential relationships between cognitive function and QoL between males and females,which could serve as a basis for further study between cognitive function and quality of life in communities.

BACKGROUND Cervical disc arthroplasty(CDA)is an alternative treatment to traditional interbody fusion that maintains postoperative cervical spine ***,the CDA postoperative period is impacted by osteolysis,subsidence,metallosis,or heterotopic ossification(HO).We report a case of severe HO in a seronegative spondyloarthritis patient after cervical Bryan disc *** SUMMARY A 34-year-old man received hybrid surgery for C4-C5 and C5-C6 arthroplasty with Bryan discs and C6-C7 arthrodesis with polyetheretherketone cage due to traumatic herniation of the intervertebral disc(HIVD).After four years,cervical spine radiographs revealed severe HO around the Bryan discs over the C4-C5 and C5-C6 *** magnetic resonance image revealed HIVD over the C3-C4 level with spinal cord *** spondyloarthritis was diagnosed after consultation with a rheumatologist.A second CDA for the adjacent segment disease HIVD with Baguera C disc over the C3-C4 level achieved an excellent *** Minimizing intraoperative tissue trauma and achieving postoperative interbody stability avoid soft tissue traction to prevent HO formation after CDA.

Automatic fovea detection and choroid segmentation for choroidal thickness assessment in optical coherence tomography

AIM:To develop an automated model for subfoveal choroidal thickness(SFCT)detection in optical coherence tomography(OCT)images,addressing manual fovea location and choroidal contour ***:Two procedures were proposed:defining the fovea and segmenting the *** localization from B-scan OCT image sequence with three-dimensional reconstruction(LocBscan-3D)predicted fovea location using central foveal depression features,and fovea localization from two-dimensional en-face OCT(LocEN-2D)used a mask region-based convolutional neural network(Mask R-CNN)model for optic disc detection,and determined the fovea location based on optic disc relative *** segmentation also employed Mask ***:For 53 eyes in 28 healthy subjects,LocBscan-3D’s mean difference between manual and predicted fovea locations was 170.0μm,LocEN-2D yielded 675.9μ***-2D performed better in non-high myopia group(P=0.02).SFCT measurements from Mask R-CNN aligned with manual ***:Our models accurately predict SFCT in OCT ***-3D excels in precise fovea localization even with high ***-2D shows high detection rates but lower accuracy especially in the high myopia *** both models offers a robust SFCT assessment approach,promising efficiency and accuracy for large-scale studies and clinical use.

Proteomic and metabolomic analyses provide insight into the off-flavour of fruits from citrus trees infected with‘Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus’

Orange fruit from trees infected by‘Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus’(CaLas)often do not look fully mature and exhibit off-flavours described as bitter,harsh,and metallic rather than juicy and *** previous studies have been carried out to understand the effect of CaLas on the flavour of orange juice using metabolomic methods,the mechanisms leading to the off-flavour that occurs in Huanglongbing(HLB)-symptomatic fruit are not well *** this study,fruits were collected from symptomatic and healthy Valencia sweet orange(Citrus sinensis)trees grafted on Swingle(*** X Poncirus trifoliata)*** tags for relative and absolute quantification(iTRAQ)and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS)were used to measure the proteins,sugars,organic acids,amino acids,and volatile *** results showed that most of the differentially expressed proteins involved in glycolysis,the tricarboxylic acid(TCA)cycle and amino-acid biosynthesis were degraded,and terpenoid metabolism was significantly downregulated in the symptomatic ***,limonene,3-carene,linalool,myrcene,andα-terpineol levels were significantly lower in fruit from CaLas-infected trees than from healthy *** phenomena were observed for sucrose and *** study indicated that off-flavour of symptomatic fruit was associated with a reduction in the levels of terpenoid products and the downregulation of proteins in glycolysis,the TCA cycle,and the terpenoid biosynthesis pathway.
