Complexes derived from some 1Phenyl3meth yl4nitroso5pyrazolone (L1), 1,3diphenyl4 nitroso5pyrazolone (L2) and 1phenyl3anilino 4nitroso5pyrazolone (L3) with Mn2+, Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+ and Zn2+ metal ions have been prepared. Structural investigation of the ligands and their complexes has been made based on elemental analysis, infrared (FTIR), ultraviolet and visible spectra (UVVis.), proton nuclear magnetic reso nance (1H NMR), magnetic susceptibility (?eff.) and thermal analysis (TG and DTG). The effect of solvents has been carried out in organic solvents of varying polarity. The observed transition energy and oscillator strengths were also calculated. The data obtained show that all of the prepared complexes contain water molecules in their coordination sphere. The investigated ligands acts as neutral bidentate ligands bonded to the metal ions through the two oxygen atoms of the carbonyl and nitroso groups. The isolated complexes behave as nonelectro lyte in DMF solution. The Mn2+, Co2+, Ni2+ and Cu2+ complexes show high spin configurations as the ground state. The high spin values of ma gnetic susceptibility may be due to the ligands being weak ligands. The Mn2+, Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+ and Zn2+ complexes exhibit an octahedral or distorted octahedral coordination with the investigated ligands.

Background and goals Sexual dysfunction is a well-documented complication of rectal cancer surgery, with a reported incidence of 18% - 59%. The objective of this study is to evaluate the incidence of sexual dysfunction (SD) in males after radical resection for rectal cancer and to compare the outcome of open versus laparoscopic rectal resection for different age groups. Patients and methods This prospective randomized study assessed outcomes in male patients that underwent rectal resection for rectal cancer from January 2012 until March 2015 at two large tertiary hospitals in Cairo, Egypt. The patients were randomly allocated into two groups (laparoscopic and open technique) of 40 patients each using the odd number policy for patient allocation. Patients included in each group were further subdivided into two groups according to the type of rectal resection either anterior resection (AR) or abdominoperineal resection (APR). Erectile function was evaluated preoperatively and postoperatively at 3 and 6 months using the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) questionnaire. Results There was no significant difference between the laparoscopic and open total mesorectal excision (TME) groups when comparing IIEF score preoperatively. At 3 months postoperatively, the laparoscopic arm showed better results over the open arm (abnormal IIEF in 57.5% vs. 67.5%). The study demonstrated dramatic improvement in SD in both groups at 6 months postoperatively (abnormal IIEF score of 40% in the laparoscopic vs. 42.5% in the open arm) with no significant difference in IIEF score between the two groups (p-value 0.876). At 3 and 6 months postoperatively, younger patients showed significant improvement in SD compared to older patients in both groups with more significant improvement in the laparoscopic group (16.7% vs. 40%). In different fields in space researches, Scientists are in need to deal with the product of matrices. In this paper, we develop conditions under which a product Пi=0∞ of matrices chosen from a possibly infinite set of matrices M={Pj, j∈J} converges. There exists a vector norm such that all matrices in M are no expansive with respect to this norm and also a subsequence {ik}k=0∞ of the sequence of nonnegative integers such that the corresponding sequence of operators {Pik}k=0∞ converges to an operator which is paracontracting with respect to this norm. The continuity of the limit of the product of matrices as a function of the sequences {ik}k=0∞ is deduced. The results are applied to the convergence of inner-outer iteration schemes for solving singular consistent linear systems of equations, where the outer splitting is regular and the inner splitting is weak regular.

Data of the daily interplanetary magnetic field (IMF), and the geomagnetic indices (aa, Ap, Kp, and DST) have been used to examine the asymmetry between the solar field north and south of the heliospheric current sheet, over the period (1975-2013). It important to note that during the positive polarity epochs: (T) refers to Toward the South of the heliospheric current sheet (Southern Hemisphere), and (A) refers to Away from North of the heliospheric current sheet (Northern Hemisphere). While, during the negative polarity epochs the opposite will be happened. The present study finds no clear indication of the presence of north-south asymmetry in the field magnitude, and also there is no magnetic solar cycle dependence that is evident. During the considered period, the north-south asymmetry for the considered parameters reaches maximum values around the declining phase or near to the minimum of the solar cycle. The geomagnetic indices have a clear asymmetry during the positive solar magnetic polarity period (qA > 0) and have a northern dominance during cycles (22 & 23) and southern dominance during cycles (21 & 24). From the power spectrum density, the considered parameters showed significant peaks which appeared in the north-south asymmetry but the 10.7 yr solar cycle was absent. In addition, the main periodicity of the asymmetry may be 5.2, 4.0 and 3.3 years that exist in the parameters with higher confidence levels. Finally, one can conclude that the asymmetry of the interplanetary parameters and the geomagnetic indices may provide multiple causes for producing the observed asymmetric modulations of cosmic rays.

AIM To investigate the clinical utility of serum annexin A2(ANXA2) as a diagnostic marker for early hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).METHODS This study was performed in HCC Clinic of Ain Shams University Hospitals, Cairo, Egypt and included: Group 1: Fifty patients with early stage HCC(Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer stage A); Group 2: Twenty five patients with chronic liver disease; and Control Group: Fifteen healthy, age-and sex-matched subjects who were seronegative for viral hepatitis markers. The followinglaboratory investigations were done: Viral hepatitis markers [hepatitis B surface antigen and hepatitis C virus(HCV) antibodies], HCV RNA in HCV antibody-positive patients, serum alpha fetoprotein(AFP), and serum ANXA2 *** In this study, 88% of HCC patients(n = 44) were HCVpositive, while HBV infection represented only 8% of all HCC patients(n = 4); and two patients were negative for both viral markers. A highly significant difference was found between patients with HCC and chronic liver disease as well as controls with regard to serum ANXA2 levels(130, IQR 15-240; 15, IQR 15-17; and 17, IQR 15-30 ng/m L, respectively). The area under the curve of ANXA2 was 0.865; the cut-off value was established to be 18 ng/mL with a diagnostic sensitivity of 74% and a specificity of 88%, while the sensitivity and specificity of AFP at the cut-off value of 200 ng/dL were 20% and 100%, *** Serum ANXA2 may serve as a biomarker for the early detection of HCC.

Aim: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common primary liver malignancy and the sixth most common cancer worldwide. The resistance to chemotherapy is a major obstacle in the treatment of HCC, necessitating the discovery of additional agents. There is a growing use of anticancer complementary and alternative medicine worldwide. Therefore, the aim of present study was focused on the confirmation of the suitability and validity of the new markers which would be achieved by demonstrating their significant change and reproducible expression during disease and disease management. Methods: HepG2 cell line was used to provide a source for HCC cells. The cell cultures were divided into 4 groups: control untreated group, 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) treated group as a standard chemotherapy for HCC (positive control) with the following doses (15.625, 31.2, 62.5, 125, 250 μg/mL), Kochia indica extract treated group with the following concentration (12.5, 25, 50, 100, 200 μg/mL) and the group treated with a combination of 5-FU and Kochia indica in different ratios. Results: Treatment with Kochia indica extract, 5-FU and the combined treatment showed a significant cytotoxicity to HepG2 cells, with different IC50 values, when compared to the control. Regarding toxic effect, 5-FU showed IC50 = 237.56 μg/mL which is lower cytotoxic in compared to Kochia indica with IC50 =120.5 μg/mL. The results also revealed that tumor cells were more resistant to 5-FU. Alternatively, the co-treatment with Kochia indica extract ameliorated the toxicity induced by 5-FU and enhanced its therapeutic potency, either by synergistic effect of both agents and/or due to its flavonoid components that may enhance the physiological properties of the cell membranes, facilitating 5-FU entrance into tumor cells. This decreased its therapeutic dose to less than 250 μg/mL by combination therapy. Background: Antioxidants such as vitamin C can eliminate free radicles responsible for oxidative stress. Objective: To assess the serum level of vitamin C in a sample of multiple sclerosis (MS) patients to investigate a possible role of vitamin C in the pathogenesis of MS. Subjects and Methods: Forty patients with MS and twenty healthy controls were included in this study. Vitamin C level was estimated for each participant. Results: Serum vitamin C levels were significantly lower among the patients (ranging from 0.28 mg/dL to 0.75 mg/dL with mean 0.47 ± 0.14 mg/dL and median of 0.46 mg/dL) compared to controls (ranging from 0.60 mg/dL to 2.90 mg/dL with mean 1.87 ± 0.61 mg/dL and median of 1.90 mg/dL) (P Conclusion: Patients with MS tended to have low serum vitamin C levels, and younger patients had lower serum levels.
