Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, an organic molecule characterizing tool, is used here to differentiate young (36 ? 2.87 years) and aged (78 ? 1.25 years) skins, based on glycosaminoglycan (GAG) and protein functional groups. Female breast mas-tectomy-skin, FT-IR spectroscopy revealed intensity differences that were quantified on GAG and protein standard curves, and assigned to the corresponding functional groups. Band intensity reductions at 78- years include: 34.37% (w/w) ?1259 - 1223 cm–1, sulfate (SO42–)/sulfonate (SO3–) S=O/phosphate (PO42?) P=O stretch?;32.00% (w/w) (1383-1262 cm-1, GAG- methyl C-H/C-C-H);and 35.60% (w/w) ?1738 - 1646 cm–1, C=O stretch: N-acetylated GAG’s, Amide I, and others?. Intensity increments at 78-years are 63.32% (w/w) (1636 - 1523 cm–1, Phe/Trp/Tyr-C=C, Amide II);27.02% (w/w) [1511 - 1457 cm–1, protein ?(CH2)/ ?(CH3) stretch];and 41.90% (w/w) (1218 - 1139 cm–1, Phe/Trp/Tyr C-H/C-N/C-C6H5 vibrations). The data speak to the power of FT-IR spectroscopy as a non-invasive tool to diagnose tissue disorders such as skin, liver, kidney or any other type that would require a noninvasive tool like FT-IR, to prevent further dam-age during the diagnosis. These results also demon-strate an age-mediated decrease of skin-GAG content, and GAG-N-acetylation, in addition to protein com-position concentration increments.

The genetic changes in rats with radon exposure were studied by the micronucleus technology and detection of hypoxanthine phos- phoribosyl transferase (hprt) *** rate of the micronuclei in peripheral blood lymphocytes and tracheal-bronchial epithelial cells in the radon-inhaled rats was higher than that of the controls (P<0.05).A similar result was obtained from the hprt assay,which showed a higher mutation frequency in radon-exposed *** results suggested that micronuclei rate and hprt deficiency could be used as biomarkers for the genetic changes with radon exposure.

Potato is the thirdmost important food crop in *** pathogens threaten sustainable crop production but can be controlled,in many cases,through the deployment of disease resistance genes belonging to the family of nucleotide-binding,leucine-rich-repeat(NLR)*** identify effective disease resistance genes in established varieties,we have successfully established SMRT-AgRenSeq in tetraploid potatoes and have further enhanced the methodology by including dRenSeq in an approach that we term *** inclusion of dRenSeq enables the filtering of candidates after the association analysis by establishing a presence/absence matrix across resistant and susceptible varieties that is translated into an F1 *** a SMRT-RenSeq-based sequence representation of the NLRome from the cultivar Innovator,SMRT-AgRenSeq-d analyses reliably identified the late blight resistance benchmark genes Rpi-R1,Rpi-R2-like,Rpi-R3a,and Rpi-R3b in a panel of 117 varieties with variable phenotype *** benchmark genes were identified with an F1 score of 1,which indicates absolute linkage in the *** method also identified nine strong candidates for Gpa5 that controls the potato cyst nematode(PCN)species Globodera pallida(pathotypes Pa2/3).Assuming that NLRs are involved in controlling many types of resistances,SMRT-AgRenSeq-d can readily be applied to diverse crops and pathogen systems.

HUMAN herpes simplex virus esophagitis （HSVE） was first reported in 1940 by Johnson. ^1HSVE usually occurs in immunocompromised patients,such as those with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome （AIDS）, 2-4 malignancies, cutaneous burns, connective tissue diseases, inflammatory bowel disease, those taking immuno-suppressive therapy, and those undergoing organ transplantation,5 etc. In the immunocompetent individuals, HSVE is rare, having been reported in 39 cases and mainly affecting young males^6,7 The aim of this study was to delineate the clinical experience in the diagnosis of HSVE using rapid in situ hybridization and assess the various detection methods.

A desmoplastic small round cell tumor (DSRCT) is a rare, aggressive mesenchymal neoplasm. Although a DSRCT can develop at various sites, the intraabdominal site is the most common location. These tumors are found most commonly among young adolescents and the prognosis is extremely poor. Multimodal treatment with surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy is very important for these rare cases, and this treatment can improve patient survival. In this report, we describe the case of an 8-year-old boy diagnosed with DSRCT located in the retroperitoneal space. The patient has undergone surgical resection and adjuvant chemoradiation therapy, and is currently alive without disease recurrence.

Intra-tumor heterogeneity(ITH) is a key challenge in cancer treatment, but previous studies have focused mainly on the genomic alterations without exploring phenotypic(transcriptomic and immune)heterogeneity. Using one of the largest prospective surgical cohorts for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)with multi-region sampling, we sequenced whole genomes and paired transcriptomes from 67 HCC patients(331 samples). We found that while genomic ITH was rather constant across stages, phenotypic ITH had a very different trajectory and quickly diversified in stage Ⅱ patients. Most strikingly, 30% of patients were found to contain more than one transcriptomic subtype within a single tumor. Such phenotypic ITH was found to be much more informative in predicting patient survival than genomic ITH and explains the poor efficacy of single-target systemic therapies in HCC. Taken together, we not only revealed an unprecedentedly dynamic landscape of phenotypic heterogeneity in HCC, but also highlighted the importance of studying phenotypic evolution across cancer types.
