In construction industry, the application of high-performance reinforcement bar is required strongly. Unfortunately, not nearly enough research has been conducted on high-performance steel in comparison with high strength concrete. This paper describes the effect of high-performance steel as reinforcement steel bar on the tension response and cracking behavior of concrete and fiber-reinforced strain-hardening cement-based composite (SHCC) tension members. High-performance steel is characterized by higher strength in comparison to ASTM A615-06 Grade 60 steel. The tension stiffening effect on high-performance reinforcing bars embedded in cement-based composite prism is investigated experimentally. The variables in the study are types of cement-based composite (conventional concrete, synthetic fiber-reinforced cement composite), yielding strength of steel bars (400MPa and 600MPa), and types of loading (monotonic and repeated tension loading).

Mercury(Hg^(2+)),one of the most dangerous toxins in water,is a heavy metal that causes organ damage from both short-term and chronic *** methods for detecting mercury such as atomic absorption spectrometry or Raman spectroscopy require bulky equipment with complicated *** this work,we fabricated a highly sensitive,real-time thin-film sensor based on vertically aligned rhenium disulfide(ReS_(2)).Its outstanding large surface area and the unique electronic appearance of its layered architecture make a ReS_(2) nanosheet a strong contender for such an *** sensor exhibited a fast response speed(<2 s)to Hg^(2+)and an ultralow detection limit of 4 nM,which is significantly less than that of the *** Protection Agency's(***)allowed utmost contamination limit for Hg^(2+)in drinking water(10 nM).It also exhibited strong selectivity for Hg^(2+)against other metal ions such as Na^(+),Zn^(2+),Fe^(3+),Cu^(2+),Ca^(2+),Ni^(2+),Ag+,Cd^(2+),Fe^(2+),and Pb^(2+).Because this nanosheet can be replaced with any secondary substrate and possibly patterned into a microscale size,the sensor can be integrated into multiple platforms such as portable devices or sensor nodes in a grid network.

Microscopic characteristics of the inferior tarsal muscle and its surroundings in Korean

AIM: To investigate the detailed microscopic anatomic structures of the lower eyelid in Korean cadavers. METHODS: Eight lower eyelids of 4 formalin-fixed Asian cadavers (4 males; age range, 48-69 years; mean age, 60.2 years) were examined. Three perpendicular dissected sections with a 2mm thickness were obtained from each eyelid to investigate anatomic shapes, size and relationship with surrounding structures. One section was obtained from the midline and 2 the other sections were obtained from a 3mm apart from the lateral and medial tarsus margins. RESULTS: The inferior tarsal muscle fibers were not directly attached to the tarsus but were only linked to the tarsus with enclosed fibrous fascia. The inferior tarsal muscles connected loosely with the capsulopalpebral fascia anteriorly and the conjunctiva posteriorly. The inferior tarsal muscle runs horizontally to the tarsus according to the shape of muscle fibers. The capsulopalpebral fascia consisted of an anterior and posterior layer. The anterior layer reached the orbital septum and subcutaneous fat but the posterior layer forwarded into the tarsus. Lockwood’s ligament was separated from the inferior tarsal muscle and capsulopalpebral fascia or fused into the capsulopalpebral ***: This study suggests that the inferior tarsal muscle which runs horizontally and doesn’t insert directly into the tarsus, plays an important role in the movement and localization of the lower eyelid.

Analysis of the Sloshing Flows of a LNG Cargo Tank

The sloshing flows in a LNG cargo tank model （1/50 scale） of a ship are measured by an embedded pano- ramicPIV system. The measurement system consists of a Nd-Yag laser（120mJ, 15Hz）, two cameras（lk x lk） and a host computer. Four experimental cases were tested for the tank model, in which swaying motions are made by a 6 DOF-motion platform. The amplitudes of swaying are 9.76mm and 29.29mm, and the swaying frequencies are 0.633Hz and 0.828Hz. The measurement regions are the vertical plane 50ram away from the front wall of the tank where a pump tower is installed. It was verified that the flow patterns of the sloshing are similar to each other when the swaying amplitudes are similar.

Monofilament type of polyaromatic amide(PA)and carbon nanotube(CNT)composite fibers is presented.A concept of a lyotropic liquid crystal(LLC)constructed via a spontaneous self-assembly is introduced to mitigate the extremely low com-patibility between PA and *** approaches provide an effective co-processing route of PA and CNT simultaneously to fabricate the uniform,continuous,and reliable composite fibers through a ***,the addition of a small amount PA into the dope solution of CNT governs the LLC mesophase not only in a spinneret stage but also in a coagulant ***,the developed PA/CNT composite fibers have the high uniaxial orientational order and the close interfacial packing compared to the pure CNT *** PA/CNT composite fibers achieve the outstanding tensile strength,electrical conductivity,and electrochemical response,while maintaining a *** also exhibit the chemical,mechanical,and thermal *** of these advantages can make flexible,sewable,and washable PA/CNT composite fibers ideal nanocomposite materials for use in next-generation information and energy transporting system by replacing conventional metal electrical conductors.

Objective:There has been a demand for a tumor-specific marker for metastatic lymph nodes in sentinel navigation surgery for gastric *** aim of this study is to analyze protein expression in both primary tumors and metastatic lymph nodes in early gastric cancer ***:We collected primary tumors and metastatic lymph nodes from 71 patients who underwent curative gastrectomy and pathologically diagnosed with T1 N1 or T1 N2(8 th Union for International Cancer Control 8 th edition/American Joint Committee on Cancer staging system)gastric *** was used to determine the expression of six cell membrane proteins,including carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA),E-cadherin,epithelial cell adhesion molecule(Ep CAM),P-cadherin,CD44 v6,and c-erb B2 in the patient ***:The expression of CEA,E-cadherin,Ep CAM,P-cadherin,CD44 v6 and c-erb B2 in the evaluable primary tumor samples was 75.4%,97.1%,100%,89.9%,11.1%and 7.2%,*** cases wherein both the primary tumor and metastatic lymph nodes were evaluable,double positivity(expression in both primary tumor and metastatic lymph nodes)was observed for CEA,E-cadherin,Ep CAM,P-cadherin,CD44 v6 and c-erb B2 in 53.2%,97.9%,98.1%,76.6%,0 and 6.8%of the cases,*** proportion of metastatic lymph nodes positive for CEA,E-cadherin,Ep CAM,P-cadherin,CD44 v6 and c-erb B2 was 71.4%,100%,98.1%,83.7%,0,and75%,respectively in primary tumors positive for the same ***:E-cadherin and Ep CAM had an overlap of 100%and 98.1%between the primary tumor and metastatic lymph nodes,***,E-cadherin and Ep CAM are potential molecular markers to detect metastatic lymph nodes in patients with early gastric cancer.

AIM： To examine the thickness of the ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer（GCIPL） in eyes with resolved macular edema（ME） in non-ischemic central retinal vein occlusion（CRVO）, applying spectral-domain optical coherence tomography（SD-OCT）, and its relationship with visual ***： The retrospective observational case-control study included 30 eyes of non-ischemic CRVO patients with resolved ME（ME eyes） after treatment, and 30 eyes of non-ischemic CRVO patients without ME（non-ME eyes）. The macular GCIPL thickness, peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer（p RNFL） thickness and central macular thickness（CMT） were measured on a SD-OCT scan. Linear regression analyses were performed to determine the correlation between the thickness of each and the visual acuity（VA）.RESULTS： No significant difference in average GCIPL thickness, mean pR NFL thickness and CMT were observed between ME group and non-ME group（P=0.296, 0.183, 0.846）. But, minimum GCIPL thickness was reduced in ME eyes compared with non-ME eyes（P=0.022）. Final VA significantly correlated with the minimum GCIPL thickness in ME eyes（r=-0.482, P=0.007）, whereas no correlation was found with average GCIPL thickness, average pR NFL thickness and mean ***： Minimum GCIPL thickness is reduced in ME eyes compared with non-ME eyes, and correlated with the VA in non-ischemic CRVO. These results propose that inner retinal damage occurring in patients with ME secondary to non-ischemic CRVO may lead to permanent visual defect after treatment.

Liver biopsy is the gold standard for evaluating the degree of liver fibrosis in patients with chronic liver disease. However, due to the many limitations of liver biopsy, there has been much interest in the use of noninvasive techniques for this purpose. Among these techniques real-time two-dimensional shear wave elastography(2D-SWE) has the advantage of measuring tissue elasticity with the guidance of B-mode images. Recently, many studies have been conducted on the application of 2D-SWE in patients with various liver diseases, and their validity has been confirmed. Here, we briefly discuss the role of 2D-SWE in patients with chronic liver diseases, particularly aspects of the examination techniques and clinical applications.

Artemisia capillaris Thunberg is a medicinal plant used as a traditional medicine in many cultures. It is an effective remedy for liver problems including hepatitis. Recent pharmacological reports have indicated that Artemisia species can exert various neurological effects. Previously, we reported a memory-enhancing effect of Artemisia species. However, the mechanisms underlying the neuroprotective effect of A. capillaris(AC) are still unknown. In the present study, we investigated the effect of an ethanol extract of AC on ischemic brain injury in a mouse model of transient forebrain ischemia. The mice were treated with AC for seven days, beginning one day before induction of transient forebrain ischemia. Behavioral deficits were investigated using the Y-maze. Nissl and Fluoro-jade B staining were used to indicate the site of injury. To determine the underlying mechanisms for the drug, we measured acetylcholinesterase activity. AC(200 mg·kg-1) treatment reduced transient forebrain ischemia-induced neuronal cell death in the hippocampal CA1 region. The AC-treated group also showed significant amelioration in the spontaneous alternation of the Y-maze test performance, compared to that in the untreated transient forebrain ischemia group. Moreover, AC treatment showed a concentration-dependent inhibitory effect on acetylcholinesterase activity in vitro. Finally, the effect of AC on forebrain ischemia was blocked by mecamylamine, a nonselective nicotinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist. Our results suggested that in a model of forebrain ischemia, AC protected against neuronal death through the activation of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors.
