The prognostic significance of percentage of tumour involvement according to disease risk group in men treated with radical prostatectomy

We investigated the prognostic significance of percentage of tumour involvement （PTI） according to the clinicopathological features of prostate cancer among patients who underwent radical prostatectomy （RP）. A retrospective study of 534 patients who underwent RP between September 2003 and March 2008 without any neoadjuvant or adjuvant therapy was performed. The associations of PTI with various clinicopathological features and biochemical recurrence-free survival were examined via uni- and multivariate analyses. The predictive accuracy of the multivariate model was assessed with a receiver operating characteristics-derived area under the curve. PTI was demonstrated to be significantly associated with preoperative prostate-specific antigen （PSA） level （P=0.001）, pathological Gleason score （P〈0.001）, extraprostatic tumour extension （P〈0.001）, seminal vesicle invasion （P〈0.001） and positive surgical margin （P〈0.001） in univariate analyses. When patients were stratified into disease risk groups, PTI was an independent predictor of biochemical recurrence-free survival in multivariate analysis only among the low-risk group （P=0.033） but not the intermediate- （P=0.287） or the high-risk groups （P=0.828）. The addition of the PTI did not significantly increase the accuracy of the multivariate model devised for the prediction of biochemical recurrence-free survival among both total patients （P=-0.459） and the low-risk group （P=0.268）, respectively. In conclusion, although PTI appeared to be a more significant prognostic factor among patients with low-risk disease than among those with higher risk diseases, overall, the PTI may not provide additional prognostic information beyond what can already be obtained via established prognostic factors.

Effects of core/shell volumetric ratio on the dielectric-temperature behavior of BaTiO_(3)

Two sets of(Mg,Y)-doped BaTiO_(3)samples were prepared to investigate the effects of the core/shell volumetric ratio on the dielectric-temperature behavior of BaTiO3:one set with samples of the same grain size but different core sizes and the other with samples of the same core size but different shell *** microstructural variation of the samples was characterized and their dielectric properties were *** both sets of samples,the temperature stability of the dielectric properties was generally improved with a reduction of the volumetric shell ratio regardless of the grain and core *** existed,however,a limit of the reduction;for the studied range,shell thickness of one third of the core radius appeared to be an optimum thickness for the given amounts of *** was concluded that the volumetric shell ratio should be optimized so as not to exceed a specific limit,for our case two thirds of the grain volume,to secure temperature stability of the dielectric properties of BaTiO_(3).

Survival Analysis of Stage Ⅳ Metastatic Gastric Cancer Patients Treated with HangAm-Plus

Objective：To evaluate the efficacy of HangAm-Plus（HAP）on stageⅣmetastatic gastric cancer by analyzing the treated patients’overall survival ***：Following the study eligibility,overall survival and one year survival rate of 44 stageⅣmetastatic gastric cancer patients who visited EastWest Cancer Center（EWCC）were *** study consisted of two arms：HAP treatment only（n=18）and combined treatment of concurrent conventional chemotherapy and HAP（n=26）.Patient characteristics by gender,age,surgical intervention,Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group（ECOG）score,treatment duration（〈4 weeks or≥4 weeks）,and lines of the chemotherapy received were *** related side effects were also ***：The median survival of combined group was longer（10.0 months）than that of HAP group（5.1 months）.One-year survival rate of combined treatment group and HAP group was 38.5%±9.5%and 33.3%±11.1%,respectively（P〉0.05）.One-year survival rate of those received more and less than 4-week treatment was 57.1%±18.7%and 8.3%±8.0%,respectively（P=0.001）.Conclusions：The study supports the safety and potential efficacy of HAP treatment in prevention of chemo-related side effects for stageⅣmetastatic gastric cancer treated with conventional *** studies are needed to investigate and confirm the results before applying the treatment in clinical settings.

High Refractive Index Ti3O5 Films for Dielectric Metasurfaces

Ti33O55 films are deposited with the help of an electron beam evaporator for their applications in metasurfaces. The film of subwavelength （632nm） thickness is deposited on a silicon substrate and annealed at 400℃. The ellipsometry result shows a high refractive index above 2.5 with the minimum absorption coefficient in the visible region, which is necessary for high efficiency of transparent metasurfaces. Atomic force microscopy analysis is employed to measure the roughness of the as-deposited films. It is seen from micrographs that the deposited films are very smooth with the minimum roughness to prevent scattering and absorption losses for metasurface devices. The absence of grains and cracks can be seen by scanning electron microscope analysis, which is favorable for electron beam lithography. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy reveals the transmission and reflection obtained from the film deposited on glass substrates. The as-deposited film shows high transmission above 60%, which is in good agreement with metasurfaces.

Current status and challenges in sentinel node navigation surgery for early gastric cancer

Although a number of feasibility studies for sentinel node （SN） concepts in gastric cancer have been conducted since 2000, there remains a debate regarding detailed detection techniques and oncological safety. Two important multicenter phase II clinical trials were performed in Japan that used different methods and reached different conclusions; one confirmed acceptable results with a false-negative rate of 7%, and the other showed an unacceptably high false-negative rate of 46.4%. The Sentinel Node Oriented Tailored Approach （SENORITA） trial is a multicenter randomized controlled phase 1/I trial being performed in Korea. Patient enrollment is now complete and the long-term results are currently awaited. Recently, an image-guided SN mapping technique using infrared ray/fluorescence was introduced. This method might be a promising technology because it allows the clear visualization of SNs. With regard to the primary tumor, the non-exposed endoscopic wall-inversion surgery technique and non-exposure endolaparoscopic full-thickness resection with simple suturing technique have been reported. These methods prevent abdominal infection and tumor seeding and can be good alternatives to conventional laparoscopic gastric wedge resection. For indications, SN navigation surgery can be extended to patients who underwent non-curative endoscopic resection. Although a few studies have been performed on these patients, sentinel concepts may be beneficial to patients as they omit the need for additional gastrectomy. SN navigation surgery can lead to actual organ-preserving surgery and plays a key role in improving the quality of life of patients with early gastric cancer in the future.

We investigated the anti-angiogenic effects of the water extract of HangAmDan (WEHAD),which is a crude extract of nine Korean medicinal substances of animal and plant *** human umbilical vein endothelial cells,WEHAD significantly inhibited bFGF-induced proliferation,adhesion,migration,and capillary tube *** used an antibody array to perform an analysis of signaling proteins,which showed up-regulated expression of various proteins including RAD51,RAD52,and p73,and down-regulated expression of *** vessel formation in a chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) treated with WEHAD was markedly reduced in length compared with a PBS-treated control *** results suggest that inhibition of angiogenesis by WEHAD may be the mechanism of action for the anti-cancer effects of HAD.

Metasurfaces consisting of artificially designed meta-atoms have been popularized recently due to their advantages of amplitude and phase of light ***,the electron beam lithography method for metasurface fabrication has high cost and low throughput,which results in a limitation for the fabrication of *** this study,nanocomposite printing technology is used to fabricate high-efficiency metasurfaces with low *** demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed fabrication method,a metahologram is designed and fabricated using a *** metahologram exhibits conversion efficiencies of 48%and 35%at wavelengths of 532 and 635 nm,*** nanocomposite is composed of polymers with nanoparticles,so durability tests are also performed to evaluate the effects of temperature and humidity on the *** test verifies that at temperatures below the glass transition temperature of the base resin,the nanostructures do not collapse,so the efficiency of the metasurfaces remains almost the *** surrounding humidity does not affect the nanostructures at ***,the durability of the nanocomposite metasurfaces can be further enhanced by replacing the base resin,and this nanocomposite printing method will facilitate practical metasurface use at low cost.

A compact polymer–inorganic hybrid gas barrier nanolayer for flexible organic light-emitting diode displays

Atomic layer infiltration technology allows the formation of a nanometer-thick polymer-inorganic hybrid barrier layer in polymer material for flexible organic light-emitting diode(OLED)*** this study,according to transmission electron microscopy and secondary-ion mass spectrometry analysis results under various process conditions,a compact polymer-inorganic hybrid nanolayer was successfully formed in a polymer and good barrier performance was revealed with a low water vapor transmission rate under optimal process ***,through gas chromatography-mass spectrometry measurements after ultra-violet radiation testing,polymer out-gassing decreased compared to bare *** on barrier properties,the polymer with a polymer-inorganic hybrid barrier nanolayer was applied to a flexible OLED display as a *** storage tests and folding tests,the flexible OLED display exhibits good reliability and better flexibility compared to those with an inorganic barrier *** results confirm that the polymer-inorganic hybrid nanolayer is suitable for barrier layer formation in flexible OLED displays.
