Effects of dietary supplementation of bacteriophage cocktail on health status of weanling pigs in a non-sanitary environment

Background The study evaluated the effects of bacteriophage cocktail(BP)and ZnO administered during weaning time for piglets exposed to a non-sanitary *** bacteriophages were designed to eliminate Escherichia coli(K88,K99 and F41),Salmonella(typhimurium and enteritidis),and Clostridium perfreingens(types A and C).Forty 21-day-old crossbreed piglets were assigned to four treatments,including the PC(sanitary environment),NC(nonsanitary environment),BP(NC plus 108 pfu/kg BP),and ZO(NC plus 2,500 mg/kg ZnO).Piglets in the NC,BP and ZO were kept in a non-sanitary environment for 14 d,which was contaminated with the feces of infected *** Pigs in the BP and ZO treatments had a higher final body weight compared with the *** NC treatment showed the highest concentration of inflammatory cytokines including interleukin(IL)-1β,IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor-αin the *** administration of BP and ZO showed lower myeloperoxidase concentrations compared with the *** NC treatment showed a lower concentration of superoxide dismutase in serum compared with the *** the treatments in non-sanitary environment,the NC treatment showed a higher concentration of malondialdehyde compared with the *** PC treatment showed a lower concentration of butyric acid in the feces compared with the BP *** non-sanitary treatments,the villus height in the duodenum was greater in the BP and ZO compared with the *** lower abundance of Proteobacteria phylum was observed in the BP and PC treatments compared with the *** highest relative abundance of Eubacterium was recorded in the BP *** abundance of Megasphaera and Schwartzia was higher in the NC pigs compared with the BP *** abundance of Desulfovibrio was lower in the supplemented treatments(BP and ZO)compared with non-supplemented(NC and PC).The abundance of Cellulosilyticum genera was higher in the BP and ZO treatments rather than in the *** piglets in the NC treatment had the

Single-cell and spatial omics:exploring hypothalamic heterogeneity

Elucidating the complex dynamic cellular organization in the hypothalamus is critical for understanding its role in coordinating fundamental body functions. Over the past decade, single-cell and spatial omics technologies have significantly evolved, overcoming initial technical challenges in capturing and analyzing individual cells. These high-throughput omics technologies now offer a remarkable opportunity to comprehend the complex spatiotemporal patterns of transcriptional diversity and cell-type characteristics across the entire hypothalamus. Current single-cell and single-nucleus RNA sequencing methods comprehensively quantify gene expression by exploring distinct phenotypes across various subregions of the hypothalamus. However, single-cell/single-nucleus RNA sequencing requires isolating the cell/nuclei from the tissue, potentially resulting in the loss of spatial information concerning neuronal networks. Spatial transcriptomics methods, by bypassing the cell dissociation, can elucidate the intricate spatial organization of neural networks through their imaging and sequencing technologies. In this review, we highlight the applicative value of single-cell and spatial transcriptomics in exploring the complex molecular-genetic diversity of hypothalamic cell types, driven by recent high-throughput achievements.

Ru/NiMnB spherical cluster pillar for highly proficient green hydrogen electrocatalyst at high current density

Advanced OER/HER electrocatalytic alternatives are crucial for the wide adaptation of green hydrogen ***,Ru/NiMnB spherical cluster pillar （SCP）,denoted as Ru/NiMnB,is synthesized using a combination of electro-deposition and hydrothermal *** investigation of Ru doping in the NiMnB matrix revealed significant improvements in electrocatalytic *** Ru/NiMnB SCPs demonstrate superior OER/HER activity with low overpotentials of 150 and 103 mV at 50mA/cm2in 1 M KOH,making them highly competitive with state-of-the-art ***,the Ru/NiMnB SCPs exhibit a low 2-E cell voltage of 2.80 V at ultra-high current density of 2,000 m A/cm2in 1 M KOH,outperforming the standard benchmark electrodes of RuO2||Pt/C,thereby positioning Ru/NiMnB as one of the best bifunctional *** SCPs exhibit exceptional high-current characteristics,stability and corrosion resistance,as evidenced by continuous operation at 1,000 mA/cm2high-current density for over 150 h in 6 M KOH at elevated temperatures under harsh industrial *** a small amount of Ru incorporation significantly enhances the electrocatalytic performances of NiMnB,attributed to increased active sites and improved intrinsic properties such as conductivity,adsorption/desorption capability and reaction ***,Ru/NiMnB SCPs present a promising bi-functional electrode concept for efficient green H2production.

Current Fluctuations in a Semiconductor Quantum Dot with Large Energy Spacing

Current fluctuation in electronic systems has been extensively studied due to the fact that they can pro- vide further information of charge transport compared to the conventional conductance measurements. Shot noise is the non-equilibrium electrical fluctuation due to the discrete nature of carriers flowing through a device, reflecting correlation effects. A well-known shot noise power density as uncorrelated charge trans- mission is S - 2el, with I the average current. This Poissonian shot noise can be observed in sys- tems with a single tunnel barrier. Positive or neg- ative correlations between charged particles, induced by the Coulomb interaction and the Pauli exclusion principle, can enhance or suppress shot noise from the Poissonian value. Numerous experimental and the- oretical studies of the shot noise in mesoseopie sys- tems have been carried out on various devices such as self-assembled quantum dots, resonant tunnel- ing diodes,molecular junction devices, quan- tum point contacts,semiconductor quantum dots, and metal atomic chains. Externally driven exci- tations which affect shot noise properties were also investigated.

The Effect of Plasma Surface Treatment on a Porous Green Ceramic Film with Polymeric Binder Materials

To reduce time and energy during thermal binder removal in the ceramic process, plasma surface treatment was applied before the lamination *** adhesion strength in the lamination films was enhanced by oxidative plasma treatment of the porous green ceramic film with polymeric binding *** oxygen plasma characteristics were investigated through experimental parameters and weight loss *** experimental results revealed the need for parameter analysis,including gas material,process time,flow rate,and discharge power,and supported a mechanism consisting of competing ablation and deposition *** weight loss analysis was conducted for cyclic plasma treatment rather than continuous plasma treatment for the purpose of improving the film’s permeability by suppressing deposition of the ablated *** cyclic plasma treatment improved the permeability compared to the continuous plasma treatment.

Rice tissue-specific promoters and conditiondependent promoters for effective translational application

Rice （Oryza sativa） is one of the most important staple food crops for more than half of the world＇s population. The demand is increasing for food security because of population growth and environmental challenges triggered by climate changes. This scenario has led to more interest in developing crops with greater productivity and sustainability. The process of genetic transformation, a major tool for crop improvement, utilizes promoters as one of its key elements. Those promoters are generally divided into three types： constitutive, spatiotemporal, and condition-dependent. Tran- scriptional control of a constitutive promoter often leads to reduced plant growth, due to a negative effect of accumu- lated molecules during cellular functions or energy consump- tion. To maximize the effect of a transgene on transgenic plants, it is better to use condition-dependent or tissue- specific promoters. However, until now, those types have not been as widely applied in crop biotechnology. In this review, we introduce and discuss four groups of tissue-specific promoters （5o promoters in total） and six groups of condition-dependent promoters （27 promoters）. These pro- moters can be utilized to fine-tune desirable agronomic traits and develop crops with tolerance to various stresses, enhanced nutritional value, and advanced productivity.

Invariant operator theory for the single-photon energy in time-varying media

After the birth of quantum mechanics, the notion in physics that the frequency of light is the only factor that determines the energy of a single photon has played a fundamental role. However, under the assumption that the theory of Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants is applicable in quantum optics, it is shown in the present work that this widely accepted notion is valid only for light described by a time-independent Hamiltonian, i.e., for light in media satisfying the conditions, ε（t） = ε（0）, u（t） = u（0）, and σ（t） = 0 simultaneously. The use of the Lewis Riesenfeld invariant operator method in quantum optics leads to a marvelous result： the energy of a single photon propagating through time-varying linear media exhibits nontrivial time dependence without a change of frequency.

Surface functionalization of single-walled carbon nanotubes using metal nanoparticles

Numerous studies highlight advantages of electrospun scaffolds in bone tissue engineering,in which cellular behavior is tightly affected by fiber topographical cues of ***,the classic electrospinning setup limits a desired presentation of biomimetic fibrous microenvironments that sense mechanosignaling and regulate stem cell *** aims of this study were to fabricate advanced asspun scaffolds presenting tree-like microfiber/nanonet networks and to evaluate their regulatory potentials on behavior of human mesenchymal stem cells(h MSCs)and bone *** we developed a novel electrospinning setup that allowed the presentation of patterned Trunk microfibers(TMF)and/or branched nanonet fibers(BNn Fs)in biomimetic fibrous *** the cellular mechanisms,anisotropichierarchical topography of TMF controlled behavior of h MSCs through focal adhesion formation and Yesassociated protein(YAP)induction,whereas BNn F disturbed such mechanosensing responses in the *** fiber microenvironment-related expression and nuclear localization of YAP *** correlated with the potentials of as-spun scaffolds to enhance osteogenic differentiation of the h MSCs and alveolar bone defect healing in an animal ***,this study provides an advanced approach of the modified electrospinning setup for presentation of biomimetic fibrillar microenvironments in as-spun scaffolds along with their application in stem cell behavior regulation and regenerative tissue engineering.

Shot Noise Suppression in a Quantum Point Contact with Short Channel Length

An experimental study on the current shot noise of a quantum point contact with short channel length is reported. The experimentally measured maximum energy level spacing between the ground and the first excited state of the device reached up to 7.5meV, probably due to the hard wall confinement by using shallow electron gas and sharp point contact geometry. The two-dimensionM non-equilibrium shot noise contour map shows noise suppression characteristics in a wide range of bias voltage. Fano factor analysis indicates spin-polarized transport through a short quantum point contact.
