Vertical height growth of hydraulic fractures(HFs)can unexpectedly penetrate a stratigraphic interface and propagate into neighboring layers,thereby resulting in low gas-production efficiency and high risk of groundwater contamination or fault *** of hydraulic fracture behavior at the interface is of pivotal importance for the successful development of layered *** this paper,a twodimensional analytical model was developed to examine HF penetration and termination behavior at an orthogonal interface between two dissimilar *** model involves changes in the stress singularity ahead of the HF tip,which may alter at the formation interface due to material *** critical stress conditions were considered to assess possible fracture behavior(i.e.,crossing,slippage,and opening)at the ***,this model was verified by comparing its theoretical predictions to numerical simulations and three independent *** agreement with the simulation results and experimental data was observed,which shows the validity and reliability of this ***,a parametric study was conducted to investigate the effects of key formation parameters(elastic modulus,Poisson’s ratio,and fracture toughness)between adjacent *** results indicate that the variation in the introduced parameters can limit or promote vertical HF growth by redistributing the induced normal and shear stresses at the *** the three studied parameters,Poisson’s ratio has the least influence on the formation *** the fracture toughness and elastic modulus of the bounding layer are larger than those of the pay zone layer,the influence of fracture toughness will dominate the HF behavior at the interface;otherwise,the HF behavior will more likely be influenced by elastic modulus.

Liver transplantation is hindered by organ shortage. The potential way to relieve this issue is to expand the donor pool via extending the donor criteria and make full use of all available grafts. The concept of “no-donor” liver transplantation allows grafts to be recovered from other liver recipients. This review summarizes the current clinical practice of “no-donor” liver transplantation, focusing on the experiences of Chinese transplant teams. Domino liver transplantation was introduced by Furtado in 1995 and implemented later in 2013 in China, and novel donor indications including some essential-to-treat inherited metabolic liver-based diseases have emerged. The concept of cross-auxiliary domino liver transplantation brings a further expansion of the domino liver graft pool, and the first pair of liver transplantation performed “rigorously without donation” was accomplished in our center in 2018. Our experience with this original transplantation procedure is hereby reviewed. In order to further promote and make successful “no-donor” liver transplantation, close co-operation between researchers, surgeons, physicians, organ procurement organizations, as well as ethical committees is required.

Growth associated protein-43 （GAP-43） is considered to be one of the most useful molecular markers for the neural development, nerve regeneration, and neuroplasticity. In most mature neurons, the expression of GAP-43 is at very low or negative level; its expression is triggered in response to the interruption of axonal transport. The purpose of this study was to examine whether continuous sciatic nerve block by tetrodotoxin （TTX） affects GAP-43 expression in the dorsal root ganglion （DRG） of normal and sciatic nerve injury rats.

Background:The optimal strategy for adjuvant therapy after curative resection for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)patients with solitary tumor and microvascular invasion(MVI)is *** trial evaluated the efficacy and safety of adjuvant transcatheter arterial chemoembolization(TACE)after hepatectomy versus hepatectomy alone in HCC patients with a solitary tumor≥5 cm and ***:In this randomized,open-labeled,phase III trial,HCC patients with a solitary tumor≥5 cm and MVI were randomly assigned(1:1)to receive either 1-2 cycles of adjuvant TACE after hepatectomy(Hepatectomy-TACE)or hepatectomy alone(Hepatectomy Alone).The primary endpoint was disease-free survival(DFS);the secondary end-points included overall survival(OS)and adverse ***:Between June 1,2009,and December 31,2012,250 patients were enrolled and randomly assigned to the Hepatectomy-TACE group(n=125)or the Hepatectomy Alone group(n=125).Clinicopathological characteristics were balanced between the two *** median follow-up time from randomization was 37.5 months[interquartile range 18.3-48.2 months].The median DFS was significantly longer in the Hepatectomy-TACE group than in the Hepatectomy Alone group[17.45 months(95%confidence interval[CI]11.99-29.14)vs.9.27 months(95%CI 6.05-13.70),hazard ratio[HR]=0.70(95%CI 0.52-0.95),P=0.020],*** median OS was also significantly longer in the Hepatectomy-TACE group than in the Hepatectomy Alone group[44.29 months(95%CI 25.99-62.58)vs.22.37 months(95%CI 10.84-33.91),HR=0.68(95%CI 0.48-0.97),P=0.029].Treatment-related adverse events were more frequently observed in the Hepatectomy-TACE group,although these were generally mild and *** most common grade 3 or 4 adverse events in both groups were neutropenia and liver ***:Hepatectomy followed by adjuvant TACE is an appropriate option after radical resection in HCC patients with solitary tumor≥5 cm and MVI,with acceptable toxicity.

Light-controlled protein imprinted nanospheres with variable recognition specificity

This work develops a protein imprinted nanosphere with varied recognition specificity for bovine serum albumin(BSA) and lysozyme(Lyz) under different UV light through a gradient dual crosslinked imprinting strategy(i.e., covalent crosslinking and dynamic reversible crosslinking). The imprinting cavities are initially constructed using irreversible covalent crosslinking to specifically recognize BSA, and then the coumarin residues in the imprinting cavities are crosslinked under 365 nm UV light to further imprint Lyz,because Lyz has smaller size than BSA. Since the photo-crosslinking of coumarin is a reversible reaction,the imprinting cavities of Lyz can be de-crosslinked under 254 nm UV light and restore the imprinting cavities of BSA. Moreover, the N-isopropyl acrylamide(NIPAM) and pyrrolidine residues copolymerized in the polymeric surface of the nanospheres are temperature-and p H-responsive respectively. Therefore, the protein rebinding and release behaviors of the nanospheres are controlled by external temperature and p H. As a result, the materials can selectively separate BSA from real bovine whole blood and Lyz from egg white under different UV light. This study may provide a new strategy for construction of protein imprinted materials with tunable specificity for different proteins.

Nickel extraction from nickel laterites: Processes, resources, environment and cost

With the development of the new energy industry and the depletion of nickel sulfide ore resources,laterite nickel ore has become the main source of primary nickel,and nickel for power batteries has become a new growth point in *** paper systematically summarizes the processes,parameters,products,recovery rates,environmental indicators,costs,advantages,disadvantages and the latest research progress of mainstream nickel extraction processes from laterite nickel *** also provides a comparative analysis of the environmental impact and economic efficiency of different nickel extraction *** is found that the current nickel extraction processes from laterite nickel ore globally for commercial production mainly include the RKEF process for producing ferronickel and the HPAL process for producing intermediate *** former accounts for about 80%of laterite nickel ore *** to each other,the investment cost per ton of nickel metal production capacity for the RKEF is about 43000$,with an operational cost of about 16000$per ton of nickel metal and a total nickel recovery rate of 77%–90%.Its products are mainly used in stainless *** the HPAL process,the investment cost per ton of nickel metal production capacity is about 56000$,with an operational cost of about 15000$per ton of nickel metal and a total nickel recovery rate of 83%–90%.Its products are mainly used in power *** significant differences between the two lies in energy consumption and carbon emissions,with the RKEF being 2.18 and 2.37 times that of the HPAL,*** the use of clean energy can greatly reduce the operational cost and environmental impact of RKEF,if RKEF is converted to producing high Ni matte,its economic and environmental performance still cannot match that of the HPAL and oxygen-enriched side-blown ***,it can be inferred that with the increasing demand for nickel in power batteries,HPAL and oxygen-enriched side
