Monocular posterior scleritis presenting as acute conjunctivitis:A case report

BACKGROUND Posterior scleritis is a rare inflammatory ocular disease,characterized by severe and painful inflammation of the *** is often misdiagnosed or underdiagnosed,due to its general and varying clinical presentation profile,which primarily involves pain and visual impairment but which can include eyelid edema,choroidal folds,serous retinal detachment,disc edema,hard exudates in fovea and subretinal *** report here a case of posterior scleritis,with symptoms of eye pain and red eye,initially misdiagnosed as acute *** SUMMARY A 56-year-old man presented to a local hospital with complaint of pain and redness in the right *** initial diagnosis was acute conjunctivitis and he was given antibiotic *** week-long continuance of the symptoms despite treatment,he presented to our *** examination revealed a shallow anterior chamber in the right eye and vision reduction to *** testing by optical coherence tomography,ultrasound biomicroscopy,and fundus photography indicated diagnosis of posterior *** patient was given methylprednisolone(oral)on a tapered reduction schedule(starting with 70 mg/d).According to the peaks and troughs of symptoms,compound betamethasone injection was administered into the bulb,culminating in discontinuation of the oral *** optical coherence tomography showed the subretinal fluid near the optic disc to be completely absorbed after *** Posterior scleritis should be among the differential diagnosis of eye pain and redness,and diagnosis requires further ophthalmic accessory examination,such as by optical coherence tomography.

The Influence of Different Single Radiation Dose on Delayed Growth of Transplanted Tumor in Athymic Mouse

OBJECTIVE To reveal the biological effects and effective dosage in radiotherapy model which applies high single-dose irradiation by animal experiment. METHODS We inoculated subcutaneouly human pancreatic carcinoma cell line （MIA PaCa-2） in the lateral of the right lower extremity of the athymic mouse to grow transplantation tumor. While the median diameter of transplantation tumor reached 10 mm approximately, the animals were randomly divided into 7 groups （6 animals per group） and irradiation by different dose in one fixed with consciousness for fraction （0, 2, 5, 10, 17, 25, 35 Gy）. All were kept on to be bred for observation of the change in gross tumor volume, calculation of delayed growth time and delayed growth curve. RESULTS With increased dose per fraction, cutaneous reaction on the neoplasma surface of the animal, which was mainly moist yellow effusion was more and more severe. When dosage is less than 10 Gy, all animals showed similar effects, that＇s the delayed tumor growth was not obvious. Tumors receiving more than 10 Gy in one fraction showed very good biological effect and the delayed tumor growth was obviously related to dosage. The difference in delayed tumor growth between the 2 groups was statistically significant. The delayed tumor growth time in 10, 17, 25 Gy group was respectively 3 weeks, 6 weeks and more. CONCLUSION The biological effect of the model which applies high single-dose irradiation （more than 10 Gy in one fraction） was very good. The effect of delayed tumor growth was obviously related to the dosage after transplantation tumor was radiated. Because of its higher dose per fraction and biological effects, the model of high single-dose irradiation can get better clinical effects.

Asymmetric reversible structural switching of a diene coordination polymer promoted by UV-visible light

In natural and artificial systems,reversible reactions are commonly asymmetric with respect to the time scale and nature of the stimuli which drive the forward and backward *** applications for which switching behavior is required,it is desirable that the reversible reaction goes as close to symmetric as possible;however,such systems are ***,we report an example of ultraviolet(UV)-visible light-regulated asymmetric reversible structural switching involving a diene-based coordination polymer,CP1 and its monocyclobutane product,*** is possible to cycle at least ten times through a forward [2+2] photocycloaddition reaction and the reverse,photocleavage reaction.A single cycle can be completed within a few *** transformation is accompanied by fast and distinct fluorescence changes,arising from optimisation of the reaction *** functional theory calculations allow rationalisation of the asymmetric reversible transformation between CP1 and CP1a rather than between CP1 and its dicyclobutane product *** work provides a clear illustration of reversible structural switching which approaches symmetric behaviour with respect to reaction rate and *** insights gained from this work also assist in the design of fast,reversible switching materials.

Initial Approach to the Cellular Irradiation Injury of Human Pancreatic Carcinoma Cell Line MIA PaCa-2 by High Dose per Fraction

OBJECTIVE To investigate an initial approach of radiotherapy, which produces cellular radiation injury by high dose in one fraction. METHODS Human pancreatic carcinoma cell line MIA PaCa-2, was cultivated and divided into 5 groups： 0, 2, 5, 10, 17 Gy. Cultivated cells were irradiated by 6MV-X ray in one fraction. Analysis were done as follows： comet assay, which assessed the level of DNA damage in the treated cells right after the cell was irradiated, flow cytometry, which was performed at 0, 6, 12, 24, 36 h after the cell line treated to ladder, which quantitatively asses changes of its cell cycle, DNA assessed the degree of DNA injury after 6 and 12 h, and histological examination, which analyzed cellular morphology after 24 h. RESULTS （1） After X-ray irradiated, the morphological change of human pancreatic carcinoma cell line （MIA PaCa-2） was mainly swelling. （2） When the dose of radiation was lower than 10 Gy, increasing the dose could greatly improve cell necrosis, apoptosis and blockage of cell cycle in GJM phase, which was consistent with the theory of radiation biology. （3） When radiation dose was more than the 10 Gy, the peak of apoptotic necrosis appeared strong and early. （4） The degree of DNA injury was also related to the dose of radiation therapy and most obvious in the 10 Gy group and not so obvious in the 17 Gy group. （5） When dose was less than 10 Gy, DNA ladder was a single electrophoretic band; in the 10 Gy group, the electrophoresis showed a multiple ladder band; when dose was more than 10 Gy, a vague and irregular band appeared on the electrophoresis. CONCLUSION Oncotic necrosis may be the main cell death style when dose per fraction is high, which differs from conventional dose fraction radiation therapy.

3D-structured carbon nanotube fibers as ultra-robust fabrics for adaptive electromagnetic shielding

Wireless communication technology is indispensable in our daily lives,but it also results in serious electromagnetic radiation ***,developing smart electromagnetic interference shielding materials with adjustable electromagnetic wave(EMW)responses holds significant promise for future electromagnetic shielding *** this study,we propose an electromagnetic shielding switch(ESS)characterized by tunable electromagnetic shielding performance achieved by fabricating a three-dimensional(3D)carbon nanotube-based spacer fabric(CNT-SF)and modifying CNT-SF with chemical vapor deposition(CCNT-SF).The CCNT-SF displays direction-dependent electrical conductivity by manipulating the warp and weft density,measuring 128 S/m transversely and 447 S/m *** characteristic allows the CCNT-SF to transmit or shield EMW by adjusting the angle of EMW incidence through fabric rotation,resulting in anisotropic electromagnetic shielding performance(33 dB transversely and 87 dB vertically).This feature enables switchable shielding with an on/off ratio of ***,the unique 3D structure confers excellent mechanical properties on the fabric,with compressive strength reaching 120 *** a flexible,lightweight,and mechanically robust ESS,the CCNT-SF holds promising prospects for mitigating the challenges of increasingly severe and intricate electromagnetic environments.

Objective:To explore the effect ofβ-TCP/PLLA scaffold in repairing rabbit radial lone ***:Thirty New Zealand rabbits were divided intoβ-TCP/PLLA group(group A),pure PLLA group(group B)and contrast group(group C)*** rabbits were sacrificed respectively after 4.8.12,24 weeks and the X-ray film was performed at the same time to evaluate the repair effect in different ***:X-ray film showed there was uneven low density bone callus development in defect region after 4 weeks in group *** defect region was filled with neonate osseous tissue completely during 12-24 weeks.X-ray score revealed that repair of bone defect results significantly better than group B and group ***:Theβ-PCP/PLLA composite is capable of repairing radial lone lone defects.β-TCP/PLLA scaffold is significant because of rapid degradation ability,good histocompatihility and osteogenic action.

Improving Thermal-oxidative Aging Resistance of Styrene-butadiene Rubber by Antioxidant Loaded Silica Aerogel

The antioxidant N-isopropyl-N'-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine(4010NA)was dissolved in ethanol and impregnated into silica aerogel(SAG)via vacuum-pressure cycles,yielding composite particles(A-N)with enhanced sustained-release and reinforcing *** effect of A-N on the mechanical properties and thermal-oxidative aging resistance of styrene-butadiene rubber(SBR)vulcanizates was *** and BET assessments indicated that the loading efficiency of 4010NA in SAG reached 14.26%within ethanol's solu bility *** A-N into SBR vulcanizates significantly elevated tensile strength by 17.5%and elongation at break by 41.9%over those with fumed silica and ***,A-N notably enhanced the thermal-oxidative aging resistance of *** aging for 96 h at 100℃,the tensile strength and elongation at break of SBR with A-N sustained 70.09%and 58.61%of their initial values,respectively,with the retention rate of elongation at break being 62.8%higher than that of SBR with fumed silica and free *** study revealed that A-N composite particles significantly inhibited the crosslinking in SBR's molecular chains,reducing hardening and embrittlement during later thermal-oxidative aging stages.

Image Fusion Based on Bioinspired Rattlesnake Visual Mechanism Under Lighting Environments of Day and Night Two Levels

This study,grounded in Waxman fusion method,introduces an algorithm for the fusion of visible and infrared images,tailored to a two-level lighting environment,inspired by the mathematical model of the visual receptive field of rattlesnakes and the two-mode cells'*** research presented here is segmented into three *** the first segment,we design a preprocessing module to judge the ambient light intensity and divide the lighting environment into two levels:day and *** second segment proposes two distinct network structures designed specifically for these daytime and nighttime *** the daytime images,where visible light information is predominant,we feed the ON-VIS signal and the IR-enhanced visual signal into the central excitation and surrounding suppression regions of the ON-center receptive field in the B channel,***,for nighttime images where infrared information takes precedence,the ON-IR signal and the Visual-enhanced IR signal are separately input into the central excitation and surrounding suppression regions of the ON-center receptive field in the B *** outcome is a pseudo-color fused *** third segment employs five different no-reference image quality assessment methods to evaluate the quality of thirteen sets of pseudo-color images produced by fusing infrared and visible *** images are then compared with those obtained by six other methods cited in the relevant *** empirical results indicate that this study's outcomes surpass the comparative results in terms of average gradient and spatial *** one or two sets of fused images underperformed in terms of standard deviation and entropy when compared to the control *** sets of fused images did not perform as well as the comparison in the QAB/F *** conclusion,the fused images generated through the proposed method show superior performance in terms of scene detail,visual perception,and image sharpness

Reversing artemisinin resistance by leveraging thermo-responsive nanoplatform to downregulating GSH

Artemisinin(ART)resistance has been an emerging clinical problem,severely compromising antimalarial efficacy and threatening the global malaria elimination *** intensive studies about the molecular mechanism for ART resistance are under way,no effective therapeutic targets for reversing resistance have been ***,we explore glutathione(GSH)as a therapeutic target to develop a thermo-responsive nanoplatform to specifically co-deliver ART and GSH synthesis inhibitor(L-buthionine sulfoximine,BSO)in a sustained manner,effectively reversing ART resistance in *** combining with BSO,ART exerts increased antimalarial activity with reduced half-maximal inhibitory concentration(IC50)by 7.43-fold in ART-resistant *** work reveals that the GSH in ART-resistant parasites can be a promising therapeutic target for reversing ART resistance,paving the way for developing drug candidates and intelligent nanomedicines in malaria therapy.

Superiority of a Convolutional Neural Network Model over Dynamical Models in Predicting Central Pacific ENSO

The application of deep learning is fast developing in climate prediction,in which El Ni?o–Southern Oscillation(ENSO),as the most dominant disaster-causing climate event,is a key *** studies have shown that deep learning methods possess a certain level of superiority in predicting ENSO *** present study develops a deep learning model for predicting the spatial pattern of sea surface temperature anomalies(SSTAs)in the equatorial Pacific by training a convolutional neural network(CNN)model with historical simulations from CMIP6 *** with dynamical models,the CNN model has higher skill in predicting the SSTAs in the equatorial western-central Pacific,but not in the eastern *** CNN model can successfully capture the small-scale precursors in the initial SSTAs for the development of central Pacific ENSO to distinguish the spatial mode up to a lead time of seven months.A fusion model combining the predictions of the CNN model and the dynamical models achieves higher skill than each of them for both central and eastern Pacific ENSO.
