Modulating the synergy of Pd@Pt core-shell nanodendrites for boosting methanol electrooxidation kinetics

The single-pot production of Pd@Pt core-shell structures is a promising approach as it offers large surface area,catalytic capability,and *** this work,we established a single-pot process to produce Pd@Pt core-shell nanodendrites with tunable composition,shape and size for optimal electrochemical ***@Pt nanodendrites with diverse compositions were synthesized by tuning the ratios of Pd and Pt sources in an aqueous environment using cetyltrimethylammonium chloride,which functioned as both the surfactant and the reducing agent at an elevated temperature(90°C).The synthesized Pd5@Pt5 nanodendrites showed exceptional electrochemical action toward the methanol oxidation reaction related with another compositional Pd@Pt nanodendrites and conventional Pt/C *** addition,Pd5@Pt5 nanodendrites exhibited good CO tolerance owing to their surface features and the synergistic effect among Pt and ***,nanodendrites with a Pt-rich surface provided exceptional catalytic active *** with the conventional Pt/C electrocatalyst,the anodic peak current obtained by Pd5@Pt5 nanodendrites was 3.74 and 2.18 times higher in relations of mass and electrochemical active surface area-normalized current density,*** approach offers an attractive strategy to design electrocatalysts with unique structures and outstanding catalytic performance and stability for electrochemical energy conversion.

Boosting the energy harvesting performance of cantilever structured magneto-mechano-electric generator by controlling magnetic flux intensity on magnet proof mass

A cantilever-structured magneto-mechano-electric(MME)generator comprising a magnetoelectric composite with a magnet proof mass is a potential candidate for powering autonomous wireless sensor ***,the concept of a magnetic flux concentrator(MFC)to enhance the output performance of the MME generator by focusing the ultralow-intensity magnetic field into the MME generator was ***,the MFC-concentrated magnetic flux mostly focused on the end tip of the MME cantilever rather than at the magnet proof mass located on the cantilever *** that the torque generated by the magnet proof mass contributes more than half of the output power of an MME generator,optimizing the volume and position of the proof-mass with MFC is crucial for better ***,a smaller proof-mass is desirable for the long-term reliability of cantilevertype ***,we investigated the effect of the position and weight(volume)of the magnet proof mass with respect to the MFC on the output performance of the MME generator through finite element analysis and *** MME generator with the lighter magnet proof mass at the optimized position generated a maximum power of 5.35 mW under a 10 Oe magnetic field,which was 210%of that of the MME configuration used in our previous ***,the MME generator showed broadband characteristics around the practical frequency of 60 Hz,which could provide more freedom to design the harvester with high performance.

Flexible thermocells for utilization of body heat

Plastic thermo-electrochemical ceils （thermocells） involving aqueous potassium ferricyanide/ferrocyanide electrolyte have been investigated as an alternative to conventional thermoelectrics for thermal energy harvesting. Plastic thermocells that consist of all pliable materials such as polyethylene terephthalate （PET）, fabrics, and wires are flexible enough to be wearable on the human body and to be wrapped around cylindrical shapes. The performance of the thermocells is enhanced by incorporating carbon nanotubes into activated carbon textiles, due to improved charge transfer at the interface. In cold weather conditions （a surrounding temperature of 5 ℃）, the thermocell generates a short-circuit current density of 0.39 A/m2 and maximum power density of 0.46 mW/m2 from body heat （temperature of 36℃）. For practical use, we have shown that the thermocell charges up a capacitor when worn on a T-shirt by a person. We also have demonstrated that the electrical energy generated from waste pipe heat using a serial array of the thermocells and voltage converters can power a typical commercial light emitting diode （LED）.

Controlling the properties of piezoelectric thin films is a key aspect for designing highly efficient flexible electromechanical devices. In this stud）~ the crystallographic phenomena of PbZr1-xTixO3 （PZT） thin films caused by distinguished interfacial effects are deeply investigated by overlooking views, including not only an experimental demonstration but also ab initio modeling. The polymorphic phase balance and crystallinity, as well as the crystal orientation of PZT thin films at the morphotropic phase boundary （MPB）, can be stably modulated using interfacial crystal structures. Here, interactions with MgO stabilize the PZT crystallographic system well and induce the texturing influences, while the PZT film remains quasi-stable on a conventional A1203 wafer. On the basis of this fundamental understanding, a high-output flexible energy harvester is developed using the controlled-PZT system, which shows significantly higher performance than the unmodified PZT generator. The voltage, current, and power densities are improved by 556%, 503%, and 822%, respectively, in comparison with the previous flexional single-crystalline piezoelectric device. Finally, the improved flexible generator is applied to harvest tiny vibrational energy from a real traffic system, and it is used to operate a commercial electronic unit. These results clearly indicate that atomic-scale designs can produce significant impacts on macroscopic applications.

Synthesis and Electrical Properties of TiO_2 Nanoparticles Embedded in Polyamide-6 Nanofibers Via Electrospinning

We report on the synthesis and characterizations of TiO2 nanoparticles embedded in polyamide-6composite nanofibers by using electrospinning technique. The influence of substrate on the electrical characteristics of polyamide-6/TiO2 composite nanofibers was investigated. The resultant nanofibers exhibit good incorporation of TiO2 nanoparticles. The doping of TiO2 nanoparticles into the polyamide-6 nanofibers were confirmed by high resolution transmission electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Photoluminescence（PL） and cathodoluminescence（CL） spectroscopy were also used to characterize the *** PL and CL spectra reveal that the as-spun polyamide-6/TiO2 composite nanofibers consisted of overlapping of two broad emission bands due to the contribution of polyamide-6（centered at about 475 nm）, which might originate from organic functional groups of polyamide-6 and TiO2 nanoparticles（centered around 550 nm）. The electrical conductivity of the polyamide-6/TiO2 composite nanofibers on different substrates was carried *** was found that the electrical conductivity of the polyamide-6/TiO2 composite nanofibers on silicon substrate was in the range of 13 μA, and about 1 to 20 p A for the paper and glass substrates.

Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome phlebovirus(SFTSV)has a wide host *** only has it been found in humans,but also in many wild and domesticated *** infection of breeding deer on farms is a particularly worrisome public health concern due to the large amount of human contact and the diverse use of deer products,including raw *** investigate the prevalence of breeding domesticated deer,we examined the SFTSV infection rate on deer farms in South Korea from 2015 to *** the 215 collected blood samples,0.9%(2/215)were found to be positive for viral RNA by PCR,and sequence analysis showed the highest homology with the KADGH human *** SFTSVspecific recombinant N and Gn protein-based ELIS As revealed that 14.0%(30/215)and 7.9%(17/215)of collected blood specimens were positive for SFTSV *** results demonstrate that the breeding farm deer are exposed to SFTSV and could be a potential infection source for humans through direct contact or consumption of byproducts.

Optimizing the structure and components is a prevalent strategy for increasing electrocatalytic energy-saving H 2 fuel *** of the sustainable and efficient techniques is electrocatalytic water split-ting for H 2 generation,but it is still restricted by the kinetically sluggish *** to the lower standard oxidation potential of−0.33 V,replacing the OER with anodic hydrazine oxidation reaction(HzOR)is an effective way to extensively reduce the use of electricity in water *** alloying,the semiconductor and adsorption characteristics of Cu,interlaced by Pd 2+solution on the Pd surface by pulsed laser ablation(PLA)in methanol,are selectively altered to maximize cathodic HER and anodic HzOR *** optimal Cu1Pd3/C ratio demonstrates outstanding HER performance with a low overpotential of 0.315 V at 10 mA cm^(−2),as well as an ultralow overpotential of 0.560 V for HzOR in 0.5 M N_(2) H_(4)/1.0 M ***,the constructed HzOR-assisted electrolyzer cell with Cu1Pd3/C||Cu1Pd3/C as anode and cathode exhibits a cell voltage of 0.505 V at 10 mA cm^(−2) with exceptional en-durance over 5 *** current study advances competent CuPd alloys as multifunctional electrocatalysts for H 2 fuel production using a HzOR-assisted energy-efficient electrolyzer.

Mesoporous titanium dioxide films were fabricated on titanium plates by micro-arc oxidation *** increase the photocatalytic activity of the films,NH4NO3 was added to the H2SO4 solution,and anodizing was carried out at high voltages using a DC power *** crystal structure,chemical composition,surface morphology and the optical property of the films were investigated by XPS,XRD,UV-VIS spectroscopy and *** photocatalytic activity of the films was evaluated by the decomposition of aniline blue,and the activity of the films for the degradation turned out to be improved by the additives to the electrolyte *** enhanced photocatalytic activity might result from the increased porosity and nitrate ion incorporation into the anodic films by micro arcing,and thereby the TiO2 layer might exhibit an improved absorption property for the visible light.

Formation behavior of anodic TiO_2 nanotubes in fluoride containing electrolytes

TiO2 nanotube layers can be formed with titanium in the electrolytes containing fluoride by electrochemical *** role of fluoride ion,the crystallinity of the anodic oxide,and the chemical state were *** results show the anodic film is composed of oxide and a little amount of *** presence of F- ions leads to chemical dissolution of Ti oxide layer and prevents hydroxide ***,chemical dissolution rate increases with increasing the fluoride content in the range of 0-2%(in mass fraction) because F- ions in electrolyte attack the interface and allow the ions of the electrolyte to easily penetrate into the *** as-anodized TiO2 nanotubes exhibit an amorphous *** treated nanotubes are composed of mixtures of the anatase and rutile phases.

Gumiganghwal-tang is a traditional herbal medicine widely used for its anti-inflammatory,analgesic,and antipyretic ***,the safety and efficacy of its active ingredients based on an in vivo pharmacokinetic(PK)study have yet been *** have established a sensitive and accurate UPLC-ESI-MS/MS method and conducted a PK study on 14 constituents of Gumiganghwal-tang through human plasma *** conditions were optimized according to the physicochemical properties of the 14 compounds to facilitate efficient separation and eliminate overlap or interference between ***-C18 and Inertsil-C8 columns were used as UPLC stationary phases,and acetonitrile and aqueous formic acid were used as mobile *** the analytes were quantified with a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer using electrospray ionization in multiple reaction monitoring *** chromatograms of 14 bioactive compounds showed excellent elution and sensitivity,and each peak was selectively separated and quantified without interference with each other or *** established analytical method was based on international guidelines and was successfully used to perform PK studies of 14 herbal ingredients in humans after oral administration with Gumiganghwal-tang *** oral absorption of most active components of Gumiganghwal-tang was relatively rapid and remained considerably long in the body to be quantified in plasma up to 48 h after administration.
