Efficacy of omarigliptin,once-weekly dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor,in patients with type 2 diabetes

AlN was used as a host material and doped with Eu grown on Si substrate by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) with low substrate temperature. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) data revealed the orientation and the composition of the thin film. The surface morphology was studied by scanning electron microscope (SEM). While raising the annealing temperatures from 300˚C to 900˚C, the emission was observed from AlN: Eu under excitation of 260 nm excitation. The photoluminescence (PL) was integrated over the visible light wavelength shifted from the blue to the red zone in the CIE 1931 chromaticity coordinates. The luminescence color coordination of AlN: Eu depending on the annealing temperatures guides the further study of Eu-doped nitrides manufacturing on white light emitting diode (LED) and full color LED devices.

Metal pipes having an inner diameter of about 25 mm or less are frequently used as heat exchangers for power plants, gas pipes, and water pipes. However, erosion and corrosion due to long-term use may cause serious accidents, such as steam leaks, resulting in economic loss and environmental pollution. Therefore, inspection of the entire length and thickness before shipping or monitoring during operation are important technologies. However, no inspection technology including the inside of the wall thickness has been developed. The purpose was to develop an ultrasonic probe that can inspect the inner and outer surfaces from the inside of the pipe at the same time. The developed ultrasonic probe is based on an electromagnetic ultrasonic transducer (EMAT) that does not require a couplant and is then easy to install in a pipe. The EMAT for the longitudinal and for the transverse vibration mode guided wave are connected in series in order to take into account the variety of defects. First, the EMAT was successfully developed for each mode. That is, it was conducted by using the magnetostrictive effect for the longitudinal mode type and by using the Lorentz force for the transverse mode type, and evaluated to improve the performance. The reflected signal from a notch defect was then evaluated in the state that each EMAT was connected in series using any artificial defects and found to be able to detect any notches with about 10% depth or about 15% circumferential length.

Improvement in Impact Energy Absorption of UD-CFRP by Sub-Micron Glass Fiber into Its Matrix

CFRPs have high strength despite low density, but little impact resistance. In addition, the debonding of the interface between reinforcement fiber and matrix causes one of the fractures of FRPs. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the interfacial bonding characteristics between the reinforcement fiber and matrix of FRPs, not only under static loading but also under dynamic loading. Moreover, an effective method to improve the impact resistance of FRPs from the viewpoint of interfacial bonding characteristics was proposed. First, two types of UD-FRPs in which the reinforcement fiber was glass fiber or carbon fiber, were prepared to investigate the energy absorption under a bending load. A bending load was applied to the specimen statically and dynamically to measure the energy absorption until failure. The interfacial bonding characteristics between the reinforcement fiber and matrix were measured using a fragmentation method with a single fiber-embedded specimen. A dynamic tensile load was applied to the specimen using a tensile-type split Hopkinson pressure bar apparatus. Test results showed that the energy absorption of UD-CFRP decreased with an increase in strain rate, whereas that of UD-GFRP increased with an increase in strain rate. When the epoxy resin was modified by adding sub-micron glass fiber, both the interfacial shear strength between the carbon fiber and matrix, and the energy absorption of UD-CFRP improved.

Fermented Black Turmeric Designed by Lactobacillus Rearranged Leukocyte Subsets and Anti-Oxidative Activity

A plant fermentation was carried out by Yeast and Lactobaccilli against fermented black turmeric, Kaempferia parviflora (FBT). These materials were proved by as safe in animal safety experiment. We tried to investigate changes of immune-competent cells that commonly utilized FBT, including after administration of immno-suppressed animals, the effects by FBT on the regulated effect on the cells were evaluated. Our results showed that FBT augmented the level of lymphocytes in number, while FBT regulated the level of granulocytes in both number and function. In our clinical study with 20 healthy volunteers, granulocyte and lymphocyte ratio suggesting their constitution as neutral in peripheral blood were increased significantly 30 days after the administration of FBT in rodents, and compromised host was prepared with cancer chemotherapeutic agent (Mytomycin-C). Our observations showed against intracellular parasite, and that FBT augmented intercellular pathogen through humoral immunity. We discussed the significance and mechanism of FBT on the level of leukocyte subsets in number and function that were considered to be potential indicators for the activation of the compromised host. We also proposed an idea that FBT exhibited tonic effects via activating complement components. The evidences were shown by immune-electrophoretic method. Moreover, we tried to access further to the anti-oxidative activities of this FBT. This modification brought to the significant lift up for antibody producing cells and anti-oxidative activity for phagocytic cells.

Manabi as an Altemative Concept of Learning in Educational Discourses

This paper considers a theory and practices of Japanese manabi （学） as an alternative concept of learning in the era of post-globalization. Although the term manabi is widely used as the translation of learning and Lernen in the field of pedagogy and in Japanese schools, it is important to understand its meaning, since the meaning of manabi is a comprehensive concept that differs semantically from the words learning, Lernen, and Bildung in the Western words. Faced with the globalization in the 21st century, there has been a tendency to promote educational reform and curriculum policies that could be characterized as ＂learnification＂ in which ＂21st century skills,＂＂competency-based learning,＂ and ＂learner-centered education＂ are emphasized. While the Western idea of learning that highlights active self is attractive to change classroom practices from the transmission of knowledge to an innovative style of active, collaborative, communicative learning, and problem-solving, Japanese education sustains traditional values that derive from selflessness and nothingness in Eastern philosophy.

Transmitting a longitudinal wave and a traverse wave into a composite material in a molten state has been studied in the online control of the composite material which cannot be evaluated by a conventional ultrasonic sensor as a final analysis, using the difference in the propagation characteristics of both modes. It is especially expected that measurement of the physical quantity which was not able to be conventionally measured can be performed by carrying out coincidence measurement of the ultrasonic wave in both modes. Therefore, in this research study, an ultrasonic probe, which can simultaneously transmit and receive a longitudinal wave and a traverse wave has been developed using an electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT) because it has the advantage of measuring high temperature samples. In this study, two methods have been compared. The 1st method uses a traverse wave EMAT that travels in a vertical direction and a bar wave by which the low order mode is equivalent to longitudinal wave vibration. The other method is to carry out the mode conversion of the traverse wave by a traverse wave-EMAT. The longitudinal converted from the transverse wave are spread in the axis direction. As the experimental results of both optimizations of the drive conditions, it has been confirmed that the 2nd mode conversion method was promising. This paper reports about the trial process and the experimental results.
