Recent studies are focusing on the distribution of water mass because the mixture region of water mass is highly related to the rich fishing grounds[Yasuda I.,Watanabe Y.,***.3(3):172–181,1994].Due to the large data size and time-varying property,efficient exploration and visualization of the ocean data is always extremely *** extract the dynamic behaviors of the water mass and its mixture from a large-scale simulated ocean dataset,we developed an efficient visualization system by applying our volume compression method and our volume rendering *** system allows us to investigate the time-varying distributions of ocean physical properties,additionally from the user’s perspective and *** the experiments,we show the generality and expressiveness by applying our system for single-and multi-property visualizations to find some significant ocean water ***,we could obtain a clear visualization result to show the dynamic behaviors of the mixture of water mass for simulation data regarding a location in the northwestern Pacific near Japan.

HsfAld, a Protein Identified via FOX Hunting Using Thellungiella salsuginea cDNAs Improves Heat Tolerance by Regulating Heat-Stress-Responsive Gene Expression

Thellungiella salsuginea （formerly T. halophila）, a species closely related to Arabidopsis （Arabidopsis thali-ana）, is tolerant not only to high salt levels, but also to chilling, freezing, and ozone. Here, we report that T. salsuginea also shows greater heat tolerance than Arabidopsis. We identified T. salsuginea HsfAld （TsHsfAld） as a gene that can confer marked heat tolerance on Arabidopsis. TsHsfAld was identified via Full-length cDNA Over-eXpressing gene （FOX） hunt-ing from among a collection of heat-stress-related T. salsuginea cDNAs. Transgenic Arabidopsis overexpressing TsHsfAld showed constitutive up-regulation of many genes in the Arabidopsis AtHsfA1 regulon under normal growth tempera-ture. in Arabidopsis mesophyll protoplasts, TsHsfAld was localized in both the nucleus and the cytoplasm. TsHsfAld also interacted with AtHSP90, which negatively regulates AtHsfAls by forming HsfA1-HSP90 complexes in the cytoplasm. It is likely that the partial nuclear localization of TsHsfAld induced the expression of the AtHsfAld regulon in the transgenic plants at normal temperature. We also discovered that transgenic Arabidopsis plants overexpressing AtHsfAldwere more heat-tolerant than wild-type plants and up-regulated the expression of the HsfAld regulon, as was observed in TsHsfAld-overexpressing plants. We propose that the products of both TsHsfAld and AtHsfAld function as positive regulators of Arabidopsis heat-stress response and would be useful for the improvement of heat-stress tolerance in other plants.

Eosinophilic Granuloma Arising from the Sacrum: A Case Report

Introduction: Osseous eosinophilic granulomas commonly occur in the skull, pelvis, vertebrae, mandible, and ribs. However, the eosinophilic granuloma in the sacrum is rare. Case presentation: We present the case of a 13-year-old Japanese boy, who presented with left low-back pain, and was diagnosed with eosinophilic granuloma arising in the sacrum. Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated an osteolytic lesion with interruption of the cortex, and signal intensity changes at the left sacral body and wing. Histologic examination indicated an eosinophilic granuloma. Two years after CT-guided biopsy, the tumor had spontaneously healed completely, with no residual ***: The present case was eosiophilic granuloma arising from the rare site of sacrum. The tumor was completely remodeled two years after biopsy.

Evaluation with Heart Rate Variability for the Treatment Effect of Aminophylline in Patients with Bradycardia after Cervical Spinal Cord Injury: A Preliminary Study

After cervical spinal cord injury (SCI), the autonomic nervous system (ANS) becomes impaired and then, bradycardia can develop. In view of this, we performed to prescribe aminophylline as pharmacotherapy for bradycardia. The study population consisted of 36 patients with cervical SCI. Bradycardia developed in 20 patients (55.6%), of these patients, 8 showed spontaneous recovery. Twelve patients had persistent bradycardia, therefore, aminophylline was administered at 0.5 mg/kg/hr by intravenous infusion. Their average heart rate increased within 24 hours after the start of infusion. In heart rate variability analysis for 7 preliminarily selected patients, the spectral waveforms of “oligowave type” indicating ANS impairment tended to appear in relatively early phase after injury (i.e., 2 days to 2 weeks after injury), whereas “normal type” was observed in the late phase (i.e., at 4 weeks). “Sympathetic block type” was observed throughout the follow-up period (2 days to 4 weeks). “Sympathetic block type” was also observed in a non-bradycardic patient on day 2. These results underscore the importance of treating ANS impairment with aminophylline while keeping in mind that bradycardia can occur even in post-SCI patients without clinical manifestations.

Spinal Epidural Myeloid Sarcoma with Paraplegia in Acute Myeloid Leukemia Treated with Radiation and Chemotherapy: A Case Report

Myeloid sarcoma occurs in 1% - 9% of patients with myelogenous leukemia. Spinal epidural myeloid sarcoma is particularly rare, and its treatment has not been established. A 27-year-old woman complained of pain on her left chest, back around the scapula, and neck. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a thoracic epidural tumor. One week after her visit, she developed motor weakness of her lower extremities and dysuria, and she was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) on peripheral blood analysis. The epidural tumor was strongly suspected to be myeloid sarcoma. The paralysis of the lower extremities and bladder dysfunction were not progressive, and chemotherapy and local radiation therapy to the spine were performed. Improvement of paralysis and complete reduction of tumor volume were achieved by the combination of local low-dose radiation therapy and chemotherapy.

Pediatric Primary Malignant Lymphoma of the Spine: A Case Report

Background: Cases of primary malignant lymphomas of the bone are rare and account for about <1% of all lymphomas and 5% of extranodal non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas. Furthermore, most reports have described the occurrence of this disease in the middle-aged population, pediatric malignant lymphomas originating in the bone, particularly in the spine is rare. Methods: A 10-year-old boy presented with low back pain caused by T12 vertebral compression fracture due to sustaining a fall. A month later, he still presented with prolonged low back pain that intensified after exercise. A neoplastic lesion in T12 vertebral body was identified after spine computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging. Results: We performed CT-guided biopsy, and he was diagnosed with primary malignant lymphoma of the vertebral body. He was treated with multiagent chemotherapy without irradiation, and complete remission was maintained at the 5-year follow-up. Moreover, the height of the deformed vertebral body improved as he grew. Conclusions: Herein, we report a rare case of pediatric primary malignant lymphoma of the spine with successful clinical and radiological outcome.

Glycosylation of the Fc region of IgG has a profound impact on the safety and clinical efficacy of therapeutic antibodies. While the biantennary *** oligosaccharide attached to Asn297 of the Fc is essen- tial for antibody effector functions, fucose and outer-arm sugars attached to the core heptasaccharide that gen- erate structural heterogeneity （glycoforms） exhibit unique biological activities. Hence, efficient and quan- titative glycan analysis techniques have been increas- ingly important for the development and quality control of therapeutic antibodies, and g｜ycan profiles of the Fc are recognized as critical quality attributes. In the past decade our understanding of the influence of glycosy- lation on the structure/function of IgG-Fc has grown rapidly through X-ray crystallographic and nuclear magnetic resonance studies, which provides possibili- ties for the design of novel antibody therapeutics. Fur- thermore, the chemoenzymatic glycoengineering approach using endoglycosidase-based glycosyn- thases may facilitate the development of homogeneous IgG glycoforms with desirable functionality as next- generation therapeutic antibodies. Thus, the Fc glycans are fertile ground for the improvement of the safety,functionality, and efficacy of therapeutic IgG antibodies in the era of precision medicine.

New Alleles of Rice <i>ebisu dwarf</i>(<i>d</i>2) Mutant Show both Brassinosteroid-Deficient and -Insensitive Phenotypes

ebisu dwarf (d2) is a mutant caused by mutation in a rice brassinosteroid biosynthetic enzyme gene, CYP90D2/D2, thereby conferring a brassinosteroid-deficient dwarf phenotype. Three newly isolated d2 alleles derived from a Nippon- bare mutant library (d2-3, d2-4, and d2-6) produced more severe dwarf phenotypes than the previously characterized null allele from a Taichung 65 mutant library, d2-1. Linkage analysis and a complementation test clearly indicated that the mutant phenotypes in d2-6 were caused by defects in CYP90D2/D2, and exogenous treatment with brassinolide, a bioactive brassinosteroid, rescued the dwarf phenotype of three Nipponbare-derived d2 mutants. However, the content of endogenous bioactive brassinosteroid, castasterone, and the expression of brassinosteroid-response genes indicated that partial suppression of the brassinosteroid response in addition to a brassinosteroid deficiency has occurred in the Nipponbare-derived d2 mutants. Based on these results, we discuss the possibility that wild-type Nipponbare has some defects in an unknown factor or factors related to the brassinosteroid response in rice.

Discharge Simulation in a Data-Scarce Basin Using Reanalysis and Global Precipitation Data: A Case Study of the White Volta Basin

Basins in many parts of the world are ungauged or poorly gauged, and in some cases existing measurement networks are declining. The purpose of this study was to examine the utility of reanalysis and global precipitation datasets in the river discharge simulation for a data-scarce basin. The White Volta basin of Ghana which is one of international rivers was selected as a study basin. NCEP1, NCEP2, ERA-Interim, and GPCP datasets were compared with corresponding observed precipitation data. Annual variations were not reproduced in NCEP1, NCEP2, and ERA-Interim. However, GPCP data, which is based on satellite and observed data, had good seasonal accuracy and reproduced annual variations well. Moreover, five datasets were used as input data to a hydrologic model with HYMOD, which is a water balance model, and with WTM, which is a river model;thereafter, the hydrologic model was calibrated for each datum set by a global optimization method, and river discharge were simulated. The results were evaluated by the root mean square error, relative error, and water balance error. As a result, the combination of GPCP precipitation and ERA-Interim evaporation data was the best in terms of most evaluations. The relative errors in the calibration and validation periods were 43.1% and 46.6%, respectively. Moreover, the results for the GPCP precipitation and ERA-Interim evaporation were better than those for the combination of observed precipitation and ERA-Interim evaporation. In conclusion, GPCP precipitation data and ERA-Interim evaporation data are very useful in a data-scarce basin water balance analysis.
