Effects of free-air CO_2 enrichment on adventitious root development of rice under low and normal soil nitrogen levels

Free air CO2 enrichment(FACE) and nitrogen(N) have marked effects on rice root growth,and numerical simulation can explain these effects. To further define the effects of FACE on root growth of rice, an experiment was performed, using the hybrid indica cultivar Xianyou63. The effects of increasing atmospheric CO2 concentration [CO2], 200 μmol mol-1higher than ambient, on the growth of rice adventitious roots were evaluated, with two levels of N: low(LN, 125 kg ha-1) and normal(NN, 250 kg ha-1). The results showed a significant increase in both adventitious root number(ARN) and adventitious root length(ARL) under FACE treatment. The application of nitrogen also increased ARN and ARL, but these increases were smaller than that under FACE treatment. On the basis of the FACE experiment, numerical models for rice adventitious root number and length were constructed with time as the driving factor. The models illustrated the dynamic development of rice adventitious root number and length after transplanting, regulated either by atmospheric [CO2] or by N application.The simulation result was supported by statistical tests comparing experimental data from different years, and the model yields realistic predictions of root growth. These results suggest that the models have strong predictive potential under conditions of atmospheric [CO2] rises in the future.

乌什逆冲断褶带位于南天山库车前陆逆冲褶皱构造带的西段,对该地区晚新生代构造活动的研究有利于加深对南天山前陆逆冲构造带的认识。本文通过对卫星遥感影像和DEM数据的解译分析,并结合研究区野外考察及典型地震反射剖面的分析,表明乌什逆冲断褶带东部地貌演化受褶皱生长影响较为深刻,发育一系列由新到老的冲积扇和风口。台兰河中游河流阶地和冰碛物均被秋里塔格断层错断,阶地断距为3.1～6.7 m,台兰期冰碛物(M_2)断距约80 m。秋里塔格断裂第四纪以来水平缩短速率约为1.23～1.59 mm/a。西部地区发育一系列逆冲断层,并发育典型的活动断层陡坎。乌什凹陷地震活动也具有明显的西强东弱的特点,地震活动具有沿断层呈带状分布的特点。乌什逆冲断褶带位于南天山造山带东西构造的转换地带,地震活动西部明显强于东部,且具有呈带状沿南天山及其山前逆冲断裂带分布的特点。历史地震分析表明上个世纪以来该区域未有7级以上地震发生,但其西部地区6级以上地震频发,随着阿克苏地区区域经济的快速发展和人口的快速增长,乌什逆冲断褶带的地震活动性应该引起地质学家更加深入的关注和研究。

Obesity is a well-known modifiable risk factor for breast cancer and is considered a poor prognostic factor in pre-and post-menopausal women.While the systemic effects of obesity have been extensively studied,less is known about the mechanisms underlying obesityassociated cancer risk and the local consequences of obesity.Thus,obesity-induced inflammation has become the focus of research interest.Biologically,the development of cancer involves a complex interaction with numerous components.As the tumor immune microenvironment changes due to obesity-triggered inflammation,an increase in infiltration occurs for proinflammatory cytokines and adipokines,as well as adipocytes,immune cells,and tumor cells in the expanded adipose tissue.Complicated cellular-molecular crosstalk networks change critical pathways,mediate metabolic and immune function reprogramming,and have a significant role in tumor metastasis,proliferation,resistance,angiogenesis,and tumorigenesis.This review summarizes recent research findings on how inflammatory mediators in the in situ tumor microenvironment regulate the occurrence and development of breast cancer in the context of obesity.We analyzed the heterogeneity and potential mechanisms of the breast cancer immune microenvironment from the perspective of inflammation to provide a reference for the clinical transformation of precision targeted cancer therapy.

Summary What is already known about this topic?The newly emerged variant of Omicron,which carries many of the mutations found in other variants of concern(VOCs),as well as a great number of new mutations that may enhance its immune escape,has spread rapidly around the world.This has raised public concern about the effectiveness of the current coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)vaccine.What is added by this report?In this study,different bioinformatic softwares were applied to predict the dominant Omicron spike(S)protein cytotoxic T lymphocyte(CTL)and T helper(Th)epitopes in representative world population and Chinese population.Compared to the original severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)S protein,limited mutations were identified within the dominant CTL and Th epitopes in Omicron variant.What are the implications for public health practice?The results of this study suggested that the current COVID-19 vaccine-induced T-cell immunity may still provide significant protection against Omicron variant infection in fully vaccinated individuals.

Sepsis is an overwhelming host reaction to infection that results in high morbidity and mortality.The term sepsis or septicemia originated in 1914,and the definition of sepsis has evolved over time due to the complications of the disease.Systemic inflammatory response syndrome(SIRS)and infection are characteristics of sepsis;however,in the absence of infection,SIRS does not lead to sepsis,and not all cases of sepsis manifest symptoms of systemic inflammation,especially in elderly individuals.

Thermal Performances of High-Temperature Thermal Energy Storage System with Tin Embedded in Copper Matrix by Theoretical Methods

There is a critical need to develop advanced high-temperature thermal storage systems to improve efficiencies and reduce the costs of solar thermal storage system.In this work,two typical systems composed with Cu as matrix and Sn as the phase change material(PCM)are explored,namely,the 3-deimentional(3D)structure system by embedding Sn particles into Cu matrix and the 2-deimentional(2D)structure system by embedding Sn wires into Cu matrix.Given the thermophysical properties of a nanomaterial could be importantly different from that of a bulk one,we thus firstly derive the thermophysical properties of PCM and matrix theoretically,like the thermal conductivity by kinetic method and the specific heat capacity based on Lindemann’s criterion.And then,these properties are utilized to estimate the energy storage ability in both 3D and 2D structure system,and the influence of structure on heat transfer efficiency is theoretically investigated in both 3D and 2D structure system.Results turn out that 3D structure system is a better choice than a 2D structure system,because of larger specific surface area,a larger sensitive heat capacity and a larger thermal conductivity.When the feature size of the PCM decreases to be less than a critical value which is about 500 nm for Sn,the thermal conductivity of the system decreases exponentially while the heat storage capacity increases lineally.Moreover,when the feature size of Sn geometry is less than a critical value,which is 15 nm for 3D structure system and 25 nm for 2D structure,the Cu matrix can’t play a role in improving the effective thermal conductivity of the whole system.

Gluing techniques with respect to a recollement have long been studied. Recently, ladders of recollements of abelian categories were introduced as important tools. In this paper, we present explicit constructions of gluing of support τ-tilting modules via symmetric ladders of height two. Moreover, we apply the result to triangular matrix algebras to give a detailed version of the known Jasso’s reduction and study maximal green sequences.

Sugar-dependent targeting and immune adjuvant effects of hyperbranched glycosylated polypeptide nanoparticles were disclosed for ovalbumin(OVA)delivery system.The mannose-coated polypeptide nanoparticles can induce strongest targeting and immune adjuvant effects to macrophages than those glucose/lactose-coated ones,which effectively transported OVA into cells and facilitated OVA subcellular escape from endolysosomes into cytoplasm with the assistance of UV irradiation or intracellular acidic pH.
