Experimental investigation of shale imbibition capacity and the factors influencing loss of hydraulic fracturing fluids

Spontaneous imbibition of water-based frac- turing fluids into the shale matrix is considered to be the main mechanism responsible for the high volume of water loss during the flowback period. Understanding the matrix imbibition capacity and rate helps to determine the frac- turing fluid volume, optimize the flowback design, and to analyze the influences on the production of shale gas. Imbibition experiments were conducted on shale samples from the Sichuan Basin, and some tight sandstone samples from the Ordos Basin. Tight volcanic samples from the Songliao Basin were also investigated for comparison. The effects of porosity, clay minerals, surfactants, and KC1 solutions on the matrix imbibition capacity and rate were systematically investigated. The results show that the imbibition characteristic of tight rocks can be characterized by the imbibition curve shape, the imbibition capacity, the imbibition rate, and the diffusion rate. The driving forces of water imbibition are the capillary pressure and the clay absorption force. For the tight rocks with low clay contents, the imbibition capacity and rate are positively correlated with the porosity. For tight rocks with high clay content, the type and content of clay minerals are the most impor- tant factors affecting the imbibition capacity. The imbibed water volume normalized by the porosity increases with an increasing total clay content. Smectite and illite/smectite tend to greatly enhance the water imbibition capacity. Furthermore, clay-rich tight rocks can imbibe a volume of water greater than their measured pore volume. The aver- age ratio of the imbibed water volume to the pore volume is approximately 1.1 in the Niutitang shale, 1.9 in the Lujiaping shale, 2.8 in the Longmaxi shale, and 4.0 in the yingcheng volcanic rock, and this ratio can be regarded as a parameter that indicates the influence of clay. The frequent detection of pharmaceutical compounds in the environment has led to a growing awareness,which may pose a major threat to the aquatic *** this study,photodegradation(direct and indirect photolysis)of two different dissociation states of fluoxetine(FLU)was investigated in water,mainly including the determination of photolytic transition states and products,and the mechanisms of indirect photodegradation with·OH,CO_(3)^(*-)and NO_(3)^(*).The main direct photolysis pathways are defluorination and C–C bond *** addition,the indirect photodegradation of FLU in water is mainly through the reactions with·OH and NO_(3)^(*),and the photodegradation reaction with CO_(3)^(*-)is relatively difficult to occur in the water *** results provide a theoretical basis for understanding the phototransformation process of FLU in the water environment and assessing its potential risk.

Development and Validation of a Nomogram Based on Perioperative Factors to Predict Post-hepatectomy Liver Failure

Highly efficient photocatalytic conversion of CO_(2) into CH_(4) over Cu single atom promoted heterojunction:The effect of uplifted d-band center

Photoreduction of CO_(2) to solar fuels has caused great interest,but suffers from low catalytic efficiency and poor ***,we designed a S-scheme heterojunction(Cu-TiO_(2)/WO_(3))with Cu single atom to significantly boost the photoreduction of CO_(2).Notably,the developed Cu-TiO_(2)/WO_(3) achieved the solardriven conversion of CO_(2) to CH_(4) with an evolution rate of 98.69μmol g^(−1) h^(−1),and the electron selectivity of CH_(4) reached 88.5%.The yield was much higher than those of pristine WO_(3),TiO_(2)/WO_(3) and Cu-TiO_(2) *** and theoretical analysis suggested that the S-scheme heterojunction accelerated charge migration and inhibited the recombination of electron-hole ***,the charge separation effect of the heterojunction meliorated the position of the *** uplifted d-band centers of Cu and Ti on Cu-TiO_(2)/WO_(3) not only improved the electron interaction between Cu single atoms and substrate-TiO_(2),accelerated the adsorption and activation of CO_(2) on the active sites of Cu single atom,but also optimized the Gibbs free energies of CH 4 formation pathway,leading to excellent selectivity toward CH_(4).This work provides new insights into the design of photocatalyst systems with high photocatalytic performance.
