Understanding the mechanism underlying signal variation is an important goal in the study of animal *** potential causes have been proposed for signal variation,including environmental noise(***,sound),energy limitation,and predation risk,among others,but the physiological control of many signals are often ***,we examined the correlation between tail display signal variation and energy metabolic activity using an Asian agamid lizard Phrynocephalus *** tail display signals were observed in the field,and blood lactate concentration as well as 2 energy metabolic enzymes was *** results showed that average tail coil speed was positively associated with blood lactate concentration,while tail coil duration was negatively associated with LDH *** also found that average tail lash speed was positively associated with blood lactate concentration,suggesting that the tail display behavior of *** was regulated by anaerobic ***,the correlation between tail display behavior and energy metabolism was not *** together,our research provides insight into the physiological mechanisms underlying tail display variation in lizards,and suggests that tail display variation likely transmits important information on individual body condition and resource holding potential.

Understanding the process of adaptation is a key mission in modern evolutionary *** living at high elevations face challenges in energy meta bolism due to several environmental constraints(e.g., oxygen supply, food availa bility,and movement time). Animal behavioral processes are intimately related to energy meta bolism, and therefore, behavioral modifica tions are expected to be an important mechanism for high-elevation adaptation. We tested this behavioral adaptation hypothesis using va ria tions of motion visual displays in toad-headed agamid lizards of the genus Phr ynocephalus. We predicted tha t complexity of visual motion displays would decrease with the increase of elevation, because motion visual displays are energetically costly. Displays of 12 Phr ynocephalus species were collected with elevations ranging from sea level to 4600 m. We quantified display complexity using the number of display components, display duration, pathways of display components, as well as display speed for each species. Association between display complexity and elevation was analyzed using the phylogenetic generalized least squares(PGLS)model. We found that both the number of display components and the average value of tail coil speed were negatively correlated with elevation, suggesting that toad-headed lizards living at high-elevation areas reduced their display complexity to cope with the environmental constraints. Our research provides direct evidence for high-elevation adaptation from a behavioral aspect and illustrates the potential impacts of environment heterogeneity on motion visual display diversification.

The construction of efficient photocatalysts has received much attention in wastewater *** this study,Nb-doped NaTaO_(3) was prepared with different doping ratio by a facile hydrothermal *** prepared catalysts were analyzed by X-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy,Brunauer-EmmettTeller(BET)theory,ultraviolet–visible diffuse reflectance *** the synthesized catalysts were employed to degrade a model pollutant,methylene blue(MB),under a 250 W mercury *** characterization tests confirm that Nb was successfully doped into the crystal structure of NaTaO_(3) and the modified NaNb_(x)Ta_(1)·xO_(3)(x is the doping ratio;x=0.25,0.5,0.75)samples were formed,which were in regular cubic shapes just like pure NaTaO_(3).The synthesized NaNb_(x)Ta_(1)·xO_(3)(x=0.25,0.5,0.75)had improved specific surface area and narrowed band gaps compared with pure NaTaO_(3).In photocatalytic degradation experiments,NaNb0.75Ta0.25O_(3) presented the best photocatalytic activity ascribed to the narrow band gap and the high surface area,degradating 95.7%of MB after 180 min of reaction,which was even twice the ability of pure NaTaO_(3).Besides,the effects of possible inorganic anions and cations in wastewater on photocatalytic degradation were *** spin resonance(ESR)tests and capture experiments were also conducted and a possible photocatalytic mechanism was *** work provides a direction for constructing superior NaTaO_(3)-based photocatalysts to be widely utilized in environmental protection.

Spatial characteristic is an important indicator of remote sensor performance,and space-borne infrared hyperspectral sounder is the frontier of atmospheric vertical sounding *** this paper,the formation mechanism of the vertical spatial characteristics involved in the space-borne infrared hyperspectral sounding data are analyzed in detail,which shows that the vertical spatial characteristics of sounding data depends not only on the spectral channels and their waveband coverage,but also the specific atmospheric parameter and its specific variation *** indicators of vertical spatial characteristics are defined and their mathematical models are established based on the mechanism *** models are applied to the vertical spatial characteristic evaluation of atmospheric temperature sounding for FY-4A GIIRS,which is the first space-borne infrared hyperspectral atmospheric sounder in geostationary *** is concluded that FY-4A GIIRS can sound the vertical temperature distribution in whole troposphere and lower stratosphere with height<35 *** study can provide basic information to support the improvement of infrared hyperspectral sounder and the trace of vertical spatial characteristics of atmospheric inversion products.

The terminal settling velocity(TSV)calcula-tion of drops and other spherical objects in fluid medium is a classical problem,which has important application values in many fields such as the study of cloud and precipitation processes,the evaluation of soil erosion,and the determination of fluid viscosity coefficient *** this paper,a new explicit approximation model of TSV is established,which combines the theoretical solution of N-S equation about fluid motion around spherical objects and the statistical regression of solution dimensionless coeffi-cients with measurement *** new model can adapt to different values of drop parameters and medium parameters in a large range of *** this model,the relative and absolute calculation errors of TSV are in range of 3.42%+4.34%and 0.271 m/s-+0.128 m/s respec-tively for drop radius 0.005-2.9 *** corresponding root mean square values are 1.77%and 0.084 rn/s respectively,which are much smaller than that of past theoretical and empirical models.

The immune interactions occurring between parasitoids and their host insects,especially in Drosophila-wasp models,have long been the research focus of insect immunology and *** infestation in Drosophila is counteracted by its multiple natural immune defense systems,which include cellular and humoral immunity,Occurring in the hemocoel,cellular immune responses involve the proliferation,differentiation,migration and spreading of host hemocytes and parasitoid encapsulation by ***,humoral immune responses rely more heavily on melanization and on the Toll,Imd and Jak/Stat immune pathways associated w ith antimicrobial peptides along with stress *** the wasps'side,successful development is achieved by introducing various virulence factors to counteract immune responses of *** or all of these factors manipulate the host's immunity for successful *** we review current knowledge of the cellular and humoral immune interactions between Drosophila and its parasitoids,focusing on the defense mechanisms used by Drosophila and the strategies evolved by parasitic wasps to outwit it.
