Conditional survival in patients with gallbladder cancer

Background: Conditional survival(CS) has been established as a clinically relevant prognostic factor for cancer survivors, and the CS in gallbladder(GB) cancer has not yet been fully evaluated. In this study, we evaluated the cancerspecific CS rate and cancer-specific survival(CSS) rate in patients with GB cancer at multiple time points and investigated prognostic factors which affect cancer-specific CS rate to provide more accurate survival ***: Between 2004 and 2013, a total of 9760 patients with GB cancer were identified from the Surveillance,Epidemiology, and End Results(SEER) data. The 3-year cancer-specific CS rate was calculated using the covariateadjusted survival function in the Cox model for each year since diagnosis, and the results were analyzed together with the adjusted CSS rates at the same time points. Cox proportional hazards regression was performed to ascertain the individual contribution of factors associated with CSS rate at diagnosis and cancer-specific CS rates at 1,3, and 5 years after ***: The adjusted 5-year CSS rate was 26.1 %. The adjusted 3-year cancer-specific CS rates at 1,2,3,4, and 5 years after diagnosis were 55.5,72.2,81.5,86.8, and 90.5%, respectively. At the time of diagnosis, age, race, histology, grade,T, N, and M categories, surgery, radiotherapy, insurance status, and marriage status were significant prognostic factors of CSS. Five years after diagnosis, however,T and M categories were significant prognostic factors for survivors(P = 0.007 and P = 0.009, respectively), whereas surgery and radiotherapy were ***: T and M categories were significant prognostic factors even 5 years after the initial diagnosis, whereas local treatments at the time of diagnosis were not, suggesting that patients with GB cancer at high risks might need further adjuvant therapy after primary treatments. Development and application of a multi-step porcine in vitro system to evaluate feedstuffs and feed additives for their efficacy in nutrient digestion, digesta characteristics, and intestinal immune responses

In vitro model provides alternatives to the use of live animals in research. In pig nutrition, there has been a tremendous increase in in vivo research over the decades. Proper utilization of in vitro models could provide a screening tool to reduce the needs of in vivo studies, research duration, cost, and the use of animals and feeds. This study aimed to develop a multi-step porcine in vitro system to simulate nutrient digestion and intestinal epithelial immune responses affected by feedstuffs and feed additives. Seven feedstuffs(corn, corn distillers dried grains with solubles [corn DDGS], barley, wheat, soybean meal, soy protein concentrates, and Corynebacterium glutamicum cell mass [CGCM]), feed enzymes(xylanase and phytase), and supplemental amino acids(arginine, methionine, and tryptophan), were used in this in vitro evaluation for their efficacy on digestibility, digesta characteristics, and intestinal health compared with the results from previously published in vivo studies. All in vitro evaluations were triplicated. Data were analyzed using Mixed procedure of SAS9.4. Evaluations included(1) nutrient digestibility of feedstuffs,(2) the effects of feed enzymes, xylanase and phytase, on digestibility of feedstuffs and specific substrates, and(3) the effects of amino acids, arginine, tryptophan, and methionine, on anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, and anti-heat stress statuses showing their effects(P < 0.05) on the measured items. Differences in dry matter and crude protein digestibility among the feedstuffs as well as effects of xylanase and phytase were detected(P < 0.05), including xylo-oligosaccharide profiles and phosphorus release from phytate. Supplementation of arginine, tryptophan, and methionine modulated(P < 0.05) cellular inflammatory and oxidative stress responses. Cooperative enhancement of mechanical and tribological properties through tailoring TiN transition interface in boron nitride nanosheets reinforced copper composites

Strengthening interface bonding between boron nitride nanosheets(BNNS) and copper matrix is an essential prerequisite for exploiting a new generation of copper matrix composites(CMCs) with high strength and wear resistance. Herein, BNNS/Cu composites were fabricated by the powder metallurgy route, matrix-alloying(adding 1.0 wt% Ti) strategy was adopted to improve the interfacial wettability and strengthen interface adhesion. A typical "sandwich"-like multiply interface structure involving TiN transition layers, BNNS and Cu matrix had been well constructed through the rational heat treatment(900℃for 120 min). Additionally, nano-sized TiB whisker was in situ formed in the vicinity of the interface, it had linked the BNNS-Cu-TiN multiply interface, which played a role of "threading the needle" and significantly strengthened the multi-interfaces bonding. This specific interface structure was finely characterized, and the formation mechanism of solid-state interfacial reaction feature was proposed. The results demonstrated that the ultimate tensile strength(UTS) of BNNS/Cu-(Ti)-900℃ increased from 248 to 530 MPa(increased by 114%), and the coefficient of friction(COF) decreased from 0.51 to 0.28 than pure Cu. This work highlights the importance of interface configuration design, which contributes to the development of CMCs with prominent comprehensive properties.

Small-signal Stability Constrained Optimal Power Flow Considering Eigenvalue Distribution

In the existing small-signal stability constrained op-timal power flow(SSSC-OPF)algorithms,only the rightmost ei-genvalue or eigenvalues that do not satisfy a given threshold,e.g.,damping ratio threshold and real-part threshold of eigen-value,are considered in the small-signal stability *** effect of steady-state,i.e.,operating point,changes on eigen-values is not fully taken into *** this paper,the small-signal stability constraint that can fully reflect the eigenvalue change and system dynamic performance requirement is formed by analyzing the eigenvalue distribution on the complex *** small-signal stability constraint is embedded into the standard optimal power flow model for generation *** simultaneous solution formula of the SSSC-OPF is es-tablished and solved by the quasi-Newton approach,while pen-alty factors corresponding to the eigenvalue constraints are de-termined by the stabilization degree of constrained *** improve the computation speed,a hybrid algorithm for ei-genvalue computation in the optimization process is proposed,which includes variable selection for eigenvalue estimation and strategy selection for eigenvalue *** effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is tested and validated on the New England 10-machine 39-bus system and a modified practical 68-machine 2395-bus system.
