Boosting alkaline hydrogen electrooxidation on an unconventional fcc-Ru polycrystal

Precisely controlling the crystalline phase structure and exposed facets at the atomic level opens up a new avenue for efficient catalyst *** this line,we report an unconventional face-centered cubic(fcc)Ru with twinned structure and stacking-fault defects as a competent electrocatalyst towards alkaline hydrogen oxidation reaction(HOR),which is now a major obstacle for the commercialization of anion exchange membrane fuel cells(AEMFC).With conventional hexagonal close packing(hcp)Ru as the counterpart,a novel scope from the phase-engineering is introduced to identify the activity origin and provide fundamental understanding of the sluggish HOR kinetics in alkaline *** electrochemical analysis assisted by deconvoluting the hydrogen(H)desorption peaks indicates the superior performance of fcc Ru origins from the structure defects and higher proportion of the most active *** calculations,together with CO-stripping voltammograns further corroborate the stronger hydroxyl species(OH^(*))affinity lead to the higher activity on these ***,it also demonstrates the H^(*)adsorption/desorption on polycrystalline Ru among the conventional"hydrogen region"is accompanied by the surface bound OH^(*)in alkaline medium,which is of great significance for subsequent alkaline HOR exploration and catalyst design.

Grasping Force Planning and Control for Tendon-driven Anthropomorphic Prosthetic Hands

A force planning and control method is proposed for a tendon-driven anthropomorphic prosthetic hand. It is necessary to consider grasping stability for the anthropomorphic prosthetic hand with multi degrees of freedom which aims to mimic human hands with dexterity and stability. The excellent grasping performance of the anthropomorphic prosthetic hand mainly depends on the accurate computation of the space position of finger tips and an appropriate grasping force planning strategy. After the dynamics model of the tendon-driven anthropomorphic prosthetic hand is built, the space positions of the finger tips are calculated in real time by solving the dynamic equations based on the Newton iteration algorithm with sufficient accuracy. Then, the balance of internal grasping force on the thumb is adopted instead of force closure of the grasped objects to plan the grasping forces of other fingers based on the method of the linear constraint gradient flow in real time. Finally, a fuzzy logic controller is used to control the grasping force of the prosthetic hand. The proposed force planning and control method is implemented on the tendon-driven anthropomorphic prosthetic hand and the experimental results dem- onstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method.

We propose a novel scheme for testing the equivalence principle with rotating cold polar molecules whose angular momenta are polarized at different *** in specific rotational states are selected out via the hexapole state-selection technique and the gravitational acceleration g of molecules is measured by measuring the Doppler shift of the molecules free falling in the gravitational *** other possible methods of rotating molecules and measuring g are also ***,as the test masses,have higher rotating speed and smaller dimension in comparison with mechanical gyroscopes and may open a new way for testing the equivalence principle and the possible coupling between rotation and gravity.

A Semiparametric Additive-multiplicative Rates Model for the Weighted Composite Endpoint of Recurrent and Terminal Events

Recurrent event data are commonly encountered in many scientific fields,including biomedical studies,clinical trials and epidemiological surveys,and many statistical methods have been proposed for their *** this paper,we consider to use a weighted composite endpoint of recurrent and terminal events,which is weighted by the severity of each event,to assess the overall effects of covariates on the two types of events.A flexible additive-multiplicative model incorporating both multiplicative and additive effects on the rate function is proposed to analyze such weighted composite event process,and more importantly,the dependence structure among the recurrent and terminal events is left *** the estimation,we construct the unbiased estimating equations by virtue of the inverse probability weighting technique,and the resulting estimators are shown to be consistent and asymptotically normal under some mild regularity *** evaluate the finite-sample performance of the proposed method via simulation studies and apply the proposed method to a set of real data arising from a bladder cancer study.

Dyes adsorption using a synthetic carboxymethyl cellulose-acrylic acid adsorbent

Removal of noxious dyes is gaining public and technological attention. Herein grafting polymerization was employed to produce a novel adsorbent using acrylic acid and carboxymethyl cellulose for dye removal. Scanning electron microscopy and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy verified the adsorbent formed under optimized reaction conditions. The removal ratio of adsorbent to Methyl Orange, Disperse Blue 2BLN and malachite green chloride reached to 84.2%, 79.6% and 99.9%, respectively. The greater agreement between the calculated and experimental results suggested that pseudo second-order kinetic model better represents the kinetic adsorption data. Equilibrium adsorptions of dyes were better explained by the Temkin isotherm. The results implied that this new cellulose-based absorbent had the universaiity for removal of dyes through the chemical adsorption mechanism.

Primary study of the isothermal phase diagram of the Cu_2O-Al_2O_3-SiO_2 ternary system at 1150℃ in air

The isothermal phase diagram of the Cu2O-Al2O3-SiO2 ternary system at 1150℃ was reported for the samples which were prepared from sol-gel method and quenched by water after being heated at 1150℃ for 12 h. Based on the conventional X-ray powder diffraction （XRD） and in situ high-temperature XRD quantitative analysis,in addition to scanning electron microscopy measurement,the phase identification was achieved. Combining the deduction from the component phase diagrams of the binary systems using the phase equilibrium theorem,the primary isothermal phase diagram was plotted over the composition area Cu2O-mullite-SiO2. In this area,the approximate composition areas of two two-phase regions and one three-phase region,（L2＋Cr）,（L2＋M）,and （L1＋L2＋Tr）,were determined. Moreover,the precise composition areas of both of the three-phase regions （L2＋Cr＋M） and （L2＋M＋A） were determined according to the results of conventional and in situ high-temperature XRD quantitative analysis by Rietveld method.

Attack and Defense Strategies in Complex Networks Based on Game Theory

To investigate the attack and defense strategies in complex net works,the authors propose a two-player zero-sum static game model with complete information which considers attack and defense strategies *** authors assume that both the attacker and defender have two typical strategies:Targeted strategy and random *** authors explore the Nash equilibriums of the attacker-defender game and demonstrate that when the attacker's attack resources are not so significantly abundant as the defender's resources,there exists a pure-strategy Nash equilibrium in both model net works and real-world net works,in which the defender protects the hub t arge ts with large degrees preferentially,while the attacker prefers selecting the targets *** the attack resources are much higher than defense resources,both the attacker and the defender adopt the targeted strategy in *** paper provides a new theoretical framework for the study of attack and defense st rat egies in complex net works.

A Novel Approach to Automatic Security Protocol Analysis Based on Authentication Event Logic

Since security protocols form the cornerstones of modern secure networked systems, it is important to develop informative, accurate, and deployable approach for finding errors and proving that protocols meet their security requirements. We propose a novel approach to check security properties of cryptographic protocols using authentication event logic. Compared with logic of algorithm knowledge, authentication event logic guarantees that any well-typed protocol is robustly safe under attack while reasoning only about the actions of honest principals in the protocol. It puts no bound on the size of the principal and requires no state space enumeration and it is decidable. The types for protocol data provide some intuitive explanation of how the protocol works. Our approach has led us to the independent rediscovery of flaws in existing protocols and to the design of improved protocols.

Integration of energy recovery network including recycling residual pressure energy with pinch technology

Work exchange is a promising innovative technology in recovering residual pressure energy. However, at the systematic level, the comprehensive utilization of different energy resources in an energy system has become an issue of concern. In this work, a systematic approach is proposed, one that successively integrates heat, work and adjusts operation parameters. A detailed procedure for building a heat-work coupling transfer network is provided. The synthesis mainly consists of constructing a work exchange sub-network with pinch analysis based on positive displacement type work exchangers. Simultaneously, another kind of sub-network based on turbine-type work exchangers is built as a schematic comparison. The influence of applying a positive displacement work exchanger on the system is investigated. Finally, as a case study, a renovation design of a typical rectisol process in the coal-water slurry gasification section of an ammonia plant is presented. The results show that the added work exchanger has little impact on the existing heat exchange sub-network. Moreover,extra pressure energy is recovered by coupling the transfer network. It is concluded that the heat-work systematic design is a promising and powerful method to use energy more efficiently.
