Highly efficient room temperature phosphorescent liquid crystalline polymer optical waveguides for advanced optoelectronics

Active organic optical waveguide materials(OOWMs) incorporating room temperature phosphorescence(RTP) hold significant promise for diverse applications in photonic and optoelectronic devices. Despite this potential, realizing active RTP optical waveguides with large-sized ordered structures and minimal light loss remains a formidable challenge. To address this issue, we present a groundbreaking thermoplastic active OOWM with low light loss, leveraging room temperature phosphorescent liquid crystalline polymer(LCP). This innovative material can be easily synthesized through the copolymerization of phosphorescent and liquid crystalline monomers. The resulting RTP copolymer exhibits a nematic liquid crystal phase with a phosphorescence lifetime of approximately 0.15 ms and an afterglow duration of around 1 second. Leveraging the excellent processability of LCP,we successfully produce meter-scale fibers via melt spinning. These RTP LCP fibers, characterized by a high orientation of mesogens along the fiber axis, demonstrate superior light confinement and efficient light conduction compared to unoriented samples, resulting in a low optical loss coefficient of 0.13 dB/mm. Furthermore, the thermal responsiveness of the RTP LCP optical waveguide enables its use as a photo switch. This pioneering work paves the way for the design of new OOWMs tailored for advanced photonics and optoelectronics devices.

Luminescent materials that can be reversibly switched by electric field stimulation are attractive since the potential application for optoelectronic *** we report a triplet-triplet annihilation upconversion(TTA-UC)system with electrophoretic response which is developed as the electrophoretic *** TTA-UC system consists of an ionic derivative of 9,10-diphenyl anthracene(DPA)as the annihilator and Pt(II)octaethylporphyrin(PtOEP)as the *** applying an electric field,migration and enrichment of positively charged DPA derivatives towards the cathode results in a 20%enhancement of TTA-UC.A quasi-solid film for electrically writing is made using the electrophoretic TTA system as the ink and a platinum electrode as a *** prototype of TTA-UC ink demonstrates unique luminescence functions upon electrically writing and erasing,providing a promising strategy to develop electronic devices for display,information storage and encryption.

An Effective Approach for the Preparation of High Performance Thermal Conductive Polymer Composites Containing Liquid Metal

The preparation of high-performance thermal conductive composites containing liquid metals(LM)has attracted significant ***,the stable dispersion of LM within polymer solution and effective property contribution of liquid metals remains significant challenges that need to be *** by the properties of the dendritic structure of the tree root system in grasping the soil,“shear-induced precipitation-interfacial reset-reprotonation”processing strategy is proposed to prepare nanocomposites based on aramid micron fibers(AMFs)with hierarchical dendritic *** to the combination of van der Waals force provided by hierarchical dendritic structure,electrostatic interaction between AMFs and LM,coordinative bonding of―NH to LM,together with interfacial re-setting and multi-step protonation,several features can be achieved through such strategy:conducive to the local filler network construction,improvement of interfacial interaction,improvement of the stability of filler dispersion in the solvent,and enhancement of mechanical and thermal properties of the *** resulting AMFsp H=4/LM films demonstrate a thermal conductivity of 10.98 W·m^(-1)·K^(-1)at 70%filler content,improvement of 126.8%compared to ANFs/LM film;while maintaining a strength of~85.88 MPa,improvement of 77%compared to AMFs/LM *** also possess insulation properties,enable heat dissipation for high power *** work provides an effective strategy for the preparation of high performance polymer composites containing liquid metal.

Improving model performance in mapping cropland soil organic matter using time-series remote sensing data

Faced with increasing global soil degradation,spatially explicit data on cropland soil organic matter(SOM)provides crucial data for soil carbon pool accounting,cropland quality assessment and the formulation of effective management *** a spatial information prediction technique,digital soil mapping(DSM)has been widely used to spatially map soil information at different ***,the accuracy of digital SOM maps for cropland is typically lower than for other land cover types due to the inherent difficulty in precisely quantifying human *** overcome this limitation,this study systematically assessed a framework of“information extractionfeature selection-model averaging”for improving model performance in mapping cropland SOM using 462 cropland soil samples collected in Guangzhou,China in *** results showed that using the framework of dynamic information extraction,feature selection and model averaging could efficiently improve the accuracy of the final predictions(R^(2):0.48 to 0.53)without having obviously negative impacts on *** the dynamic information of the environment was an efficient way to generate covariates that are linearly and nonlinearly related to SOM,which improved the R^(2)of random forest from 0.44 to 0.48 and the R^(2)of extreme gradient boosting from 0.37to *** recursive feature selection(FRFS)is recommended when there are relatively few environmental covariates(500).The Granger-Ramanathan model averaging approach could improve the prediction accuracy and average *** the structures of initial prediction models are similar,increasing in the number of averaging models did not have significantly positive effects on the final *** the advantages of these selected strategies over information extraction,feature selection and model averaging have a great potential for high-accuracy soil mapping

Liquid crystals are a vital component of modern photonics,and recent studies have demonstrated the exceptional sensing properties of stimuli-responsive cholesteric liquid ***,existing cholesteric liquid crystal-based sensors often rely on the naked eye perceptibility of structural color or the measurement of wavelength changes by spectrometric tools,which limits their practical ***,developing a platform that produces recognizable sensing signals is *** this study,we present a visual sensing platform based on geometric phase encoding of stimuli-responsive cholesteric liquid crystal polymers that generates real-time visual patterns,rather than frequency *** demonstrate this platform’s effectiveness,we used a humidity-responsive cholesteric liquid crystal polymer film encoded with a q-plate pattern,which revealed that humidity causes a shape change in the vortex beam reflected from the encoded cholesteric liquid crystal ***,we developed a prototype platform towards remote humidity monitoring benefiting from the high directionality and long-range transmission properties of laser beams carrying orbital angular *** approach provides a novel sensing platform for cholesteric liquid crystals-based sensors that offers promising practical *** ability to generate recognizable sensing signals through visual patterns offers a new level of practicality in the sensing field with stimuli-responsive cholesteric liquid *** platform might have significant implications for a broad readership and will be of interest to researchers working in the field of photonics and sensing technology.

Electro-reductive carboxylation of acyclic C（sp3）–C（sp3） bonds in aromatic hydrocarbons with CO2

Despite the recent advances in the selective functionalization of C–C bonds in specific substrates,cleavage and functionalization of C–C bonds in acyclic substrates,such as ethane derivatives,remains *** contrast to the well-developed functionalization of one carbon fragment after C–C bond cleavage,herein,we report a novel electro-reductive carboxylation of C（sp3）–C（sp3） bond in multi-aryl ethanes with carbon dioxide（CO2） by utilizing both carbon ***,this reaction exhibits an atom-,step-economic approach for the synthesis of carboxylic acids,fulfilling principal aspirations of organic ***,this method features mild reaction conditions,broad substrate scope,and good functional group *** and asymmetric substrates bearing primary,secondary,or tertiary C（sp3）–C（sp3） bonds are all amenable to this strategy,enabling one or two structurally different carboxylic acids to be facilely constructed at the same *** investigations indicate that carbanions might be the key intermediates in this reaction,which could be captured by CO2efficiently.

The association and underlying mechanism of the digit ratio(2D:4D)in hypospadias

The second-to-fourth digit(2D:4D)ratio is thought to be associated with prenatal androgen ***,the relationship between the 2D:4D ratio and hypospadias is poorly understood,and its molecular mechanism is not *** this study,by analyzing the hand digit length of 142 boys with hypospadias(23 distal,68 middle,and 51 proximal)and 196 controls enrolled in Shanghai Children’s Hospital(Shanghai,China)from December 2020 to December 2021,we found that the 2D:4D ratio was significantly increased in boys with hypospadias(P<0.001)and it was positively correlated with the severity of the *** was further verified by the comparison of control mice and prenatal low testosterone mice model obtained by knocking out the risk gene(dynein axonemal heavy chain 8[DNAH8])associated with ***,the discrepancy was mainly caused by a shift in *** characterization of a mouse model validated that low testosterone levels during pregnancy can impair the growth and development of *** mechanistic explorations revealed that during the androgen-sensitive window,the downregulation of the androgen receptor(AR)caused by low testosterone levels,as well as the suppressed expression of chondrocyte proliferation-related genes such as Wnt family member 5a(Wnt5a),Wnt5b,Smad family member 2(Smad2),and Smad3;mitochondrial function-related genes in cartilage such as AMP-activated protein kinase(AMPK)and nuclear respiratory factor 1(Nrf-1);and vascular development-related genes such as myosin light chain(MLC),notch receptor 3(Notch3),and sphingosine kinase 1(Sphk1),are responsible for the limitation of 4D growth,which results in a higher 2D:4D ratio in boys with hypospadias via decreased endochondral *** study indicates that the ratio of 2D:4D is a risk marker of hypospadias and provides a potential molecular mechanism.

Use of a flexible thermoelectric source is a feasible approach to realizing selfpowered wearable electronics and the Internet of *** thin films are promising candidates for fabricating flexible power supply,but obtaining highthermoelectric‐performance thin films remains a big *** the present work,a p‐type Bi_(x)Sb_(2−x)Te_(3)thin film is designed with a high figure of merit of 1.11 at 393 K and exceptional flexibility(less than 5%increase in resistance after 1000 cycles of bending at a radius of∼5 mm).The favorable comprehensive performance of the Bi_(x)Sb_(2−x)Te_(3)flexible thin film is due to its excellent crystallinity,optimized carrier concentration,and low elastic modulus,which have been verified by experiments and theoretical ***,a flexible device is fabricated using the prepared p‐type Bi_(x)Sb_(2−x)Te_(3)and n‐type Ag_(2)Se thin ***,an outstanding power density of∼1028μWcm^(−2)is achieved at a temperature difference of 25 *** work extends a novel concept to the fabrication of highperformance flexible thin films and devices for wearable energy harvesting.

A Post-Quantum Cross-Domain Authentication Scheme Based on Multi-Chain Architecture

Due to the rapid advancements in network technology,blockchain is being employed for distributed data *** the Internet of Things(IoT)scenario,different participants manage multiple blockchains located in different trust domains,which has resulted in the extensive development of cross-domain authentication ***,the emergence of many attackers equipped with quantum computers has the potential to launch quantum computing attacks against cross-domain authentication schemes based on traditional cryptography,posing a significant security *** response to the aforementioned challenges,our paper demonstrates a post-quantum cross-domain identity authentication scheme to negotiate the session key used in the cross-chain asset exchange ***,our paper designs the hiding and recovery process of user identity index based on lattice cryptography and introduces the identity-based signature from lattice to construct a post-quantum cross-domain authentication ***,our paper utilizes the hashed time-locked contract to achieves the cross-chain asset exchange of blockchain nodes in different trust ***,the security analysis reduces the security of the identity index and signature to Learning With Errors(LWE)and Short Integer Solution(SIS)assumption,respectively,indicating that our scheme has post-quantum *** but not least,through comparison analysis,we display that our scheme is efficient compared with the cross-domain authentication scheme based on traditional cryptography.

Preferential orientation control of metal-organic framework (MOF) films is advantageous for maximizing pore uniformity and minimizing grain-boundary defects. Nonetheless, the preparation of MOF films with both in-plane and out-of-plane orientations remains a grand challenge. In this study, we reported the preparation of three-dimensionally oriented MIL-96 layers through combining morphology control of MIL-96 seeds with addition of polyvinylpyrrolidone surfactants and arachidonic acids. The three-dimensionally oriented MIL-96 film was readily obtained through in-plane epitaxial growth. It is anticipated that the aforementioned protocol can be effective for obtaining diverse MOF films with a three-dimensionally oriented organization.
