Seroepidemiology of Syphilis Infection among 2 Million Reproductive-age Women in Rural China：A Population-based, Cross-sectional Study

Background：Quantifying syphilis prevalence is important for planning interventions and advocating for resources on syphilis.However,data on large sample studies regarding the prevalence of syphilis among reproductive-age women in rural China were not available for analysis.The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence,epidemiological characteristics,and related factors of syphilis infection among reproductive-age women in rural China.Methods：Data were obtained from a nationwide,population-based,cross-sectional study under the National Free Preconception Health Examination Project which covered all the 31 provinces in China's Mainland.Women intending to get pregnant within the next 6 months were enrolled between January 1,2010,and December 31,2012.Sociodemographic,gynecological and obstetric characteristics,and other relevant information were obtained through face-to-face interviews.Treponema pallidum particle agglutination assay test was used to detect positive samples of syphilis.Univariate and multivariate logistic regressions were performed to assess the associations between syphilis seropositivity and related factors.Results：The overall seroprevalence of syphilis （SPS） among the 2,044,126 women who received syphilis screening test during 2010-2012 was 0.37% （95% confidence interval [CI]：0.36-0.37%）.The SPS appeared 0.24% （95% CI：0.23-0.26%） and 0.66% （95% CI：0.59-0.72%） in women at 21-24 and 40-44 years of age,respectively,showing an increase of SPS,parallel with age,and the difference was significant.SPS was significantly higher in ethnic minorities than that in Han nationality （0.58% vs.0.35%,respectively,odds ratio [OR] =1.41,95% CI：1.30-1.53） and higher in workers than that in farmers （0.45% vs.0.36%,respectively,OR =1.27,95% CI：1.14-1.41）.Women with primary school or below level had a higher SPS as compared to those with college or above educational level （0.61% vs.0.32%,respectively,OR =2.49,95% CI：2.14-2.89）,and the increase reversely correlated with the levels of education.Women whose spouses w

BACKGROUND As one of the most common tumors,gastric cancer(GC)has a high mortality rate,since current examination approaches cannot achieve early diagnosis.Fusobacterium nucleatum(Fn)primarily colonized in the oral cavity,has been reported to be involved in the development of gastrointestinal tumor.Until now,little is known about the relationship between salivary Fn and GC.AIM To determine whether salivary Fn could be a biomarker to diagnose GC and explore the influence of Fn on GC cells.METHODS The abundance of Fn in saliva was quantified by droplet digital polymerase chain reaction in 120 GC patients,31 atrophic gastritis(AG)patients,35 non-AG(NAG)patients,26 gastric polyp(GP)patients,and 20 normal controls(NC)from Qilu Hospital of Shandong University from January 2019 to December 2020.Receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve analysis was performed to evaluate the diagnostic value of Fn as well as traditional serum tumor markers,including carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA),carbohydrate antigen(CA)19-9,and CA72-4.Transwell assay and wound-healing assay were conducted to assess the influence of Fn infection on GC cells.The expression of epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT)markers was detected using western blot assay.RESULTS We found that the level of salivary Fn in GC patients was significantly increased compared with those in AG,NAG,and GP patients and NC(P<0.001).ROC curve analysis showed a favorable capability of Fn(73.33% sensitivity;82.14%specificity;area under the curve:0.813)in GC diagnosis,which was superior to that of CEA,CA19-9,CA72-4,ferritin,and sialic acid.The Fn level in saliva of GC patients was increased as the TNM stage increased.GC patients with lymph node metastasis had higher Fn levels than those without metastasis.Both transwell and wound-healing assays indicated that Fn infection promoted the migration and invasion of GC cells.Western blot analysis showed that Fn infection decreased the expression of E-cadherin and increased the expressions of N-cadherin,vimentin,and snail.CONCLUSION Fn abu

Sterol regulatory element-binding proteins(SREBPs)are a class of cholesterol-sensitive transcription factors that play important roles in lipid metabolism.Natural product inhibitors of SREBPs have been shown to inhibit the synthesis of free fatty acids and cholesterol,promote the burning of brown fat,and relieve insulin resistance by inhibiting different links during the synthesis,cleavage,and transport of SREBPs,thereby improving obesity,diabetes,atherosclerosis,and other metabolic diseases and disorders.There are numerous Chinese herbal medicines with verified efficacy in the treatment of metabolic diseases,including Coptis chinensis Franch.and Pueraria peduncularis Grah.for diabetes,Pueraria peduncularis Grah.,Epimedium brevicornum Maxim.,and Panax ginseng C.A.Meyer for osteoporosis,and Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn.and Poria cocos(Schw.)Wolf.for obesity.Present-day research on the mechanisms underlying the activity of traditional Chinese medicine has indicated that certain chemical components of these traditional preparations can be used to treat metabolic diseases by inhibiting SREBPs.Progress in the research on natural product SREBP inhibitors is continuing apace,and the mechanisms of action of certain small molecules have become well established.In this study,we review recent progress in the research on natural small-molecule inhibitors of SREBPs,including flavonoids,saponins,triterpenoids,and alkaloids,which we hope will provide a useful reference for future research and development of drugs for the treatment of metabolic diseases.

The unique optical and electrical properties of two-dimensional(2D)materials provide a platform for novel van der Waals(vdW)heterojunction devices but the investigation of 2D magnetism is still limited.Recently,the emergence of long-range magnetic order atomically thin crystals expands 2D family,providing possibilities for the study of low-dimensional spin behavior and novel spintronics devices.As a specific member of magnetic van der Waals family,chromium trihalides(CrX_(3),X=Cl,Br,I)stimulated intensive interests on account of the newfangled magnetic properties.In this review,we briefly introduce the crystal structures,magnetism of the bulk and synthetic methods of 2D CrX_(3).Subsequently,the physical properties in atomically thin limit and magnetism manipulated by external field are presented.Next,some novel physical phenomena in CrX_(3) heterojunctions are discussed.Finally,the challenges and future directions are proposed.We focus on the intriguing physical phenomena in 2D magnetic CrX_(3) by combining related theoretical calculations and experimental results,providing a perspective on these emerging materials.

Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2,is a major public health issue.The epidemic is unlikely to be contained until the global launch of safe and effective vaccines that could prevent serious illnesses and provide herd immunity.Although most patients have mild flu-like symptoms,some develop severe illnesses accompanied by multiple organ dysfunction.The identification of pathophysiology and early warning biomarkers of a severe type of COVID-19 contribute to the treatment and prevention of serious complications.Here,we review the pathophysiology,early warning indicators,and effective treatment of Chinese and Western Medicine for patients with a severe type of COVID-19.

Effects of magnesium and copper additions on tensile properties of Al-Si-Cr die casting alloy under as-cast and T5 conditions

Aluminum high pressure die casting(HPDC)technology has evolved in the past decades,enabling stronger and larger one-piece casting with significant part consolidation.It also offers a higher design freedom for more mass-efficient thin-walled body structures.For body structures that require excellent ductility and fracture toughness to be joined with steel sheet via self-piercing riveting(for instance,shock towers and hinge pillars,etc.),a costly T7 heat treatment comprising a solution heat treatment at elevated temperatures(450℃-500℃)followed by an over-ageing heat treatment is needed to optimize microstructure for meeting product requirement.To enable cost-efficient mass production of HPDC body structures,it is important to eliminate the expensive T7 heat treatment without sacrificing mechanical properties.Optimizing die cast alloy chemistry is a potential solution to improve fracture toughness and ductility of the HPDC components.The present study intends to tailor the Mg and Cu additions for a new Al-Si-Cr type die casting alloy(registered as A379 with The Aluminum Association,USA)to achieve the desired tensile properties without using T7 heat treatment.It was found that Cu addition should be avoided,as it is not effective in enhancing strength while degrades tensile ductility.Mg addition is very effective in improving strength and has minor impact on tensile ductility.The investigated Al-Si-Cr alloy with a nominal composition of Al-8.5wt.%Si-0.3wt.%Cr-0.2wt.%Fe shows comparable tensile properties with the T7 treated AlSi10MnMg alloy which is currently used for manufacturing shock towers and hinge pillars.

IGBT Temperature Field Monitoring Based on Reduced-order Model

With the rapid development of the world economy,IGBT has been widely used in motor drive and electric energy conversion.In order to timely detect the fatigue damage of IGBT,it is necessary to monitor the junction temperature of IGBT.In order to realize the fast calculation of IGBT junction temperature,a finite element method of IGBT temperature field reduction is proposed in this paper.Firstly,the finite element calculation process of IGBT temperature field is introduced and the linear equations of finite element calculation of temperature field are derived.Temperature field data of different working conditions are obtained by finite element simulation to form the sample space.Then the covariance matrix of the sample space is constructed,whose proper orthogonal decomposition and modal extraction are carried out.Reasonable basis vector space is selected to complete the low dimensional expression of temperature vector inside and outside the sample space.Finally,the reduced-order model of temperature field finite element is obtained and solved.The results of the reduced order model are compared with those of the finite element method,and the performance of the reduced-order model is evaluated from two aspects of accuracy and rapidity.

To the Editor:Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),is a serious public health crisis threatening human health and survival worldwide.[1]Reportedly,laboratory characteristics such as C-reactive protein,lactate dehydrogenase,D-dimer,plasma cytokines,blood platelets,and leukocytes are abnormal in patients with SARS-CoV-2 infections.[2,3]To enhance the protective immune response against SARS-CoV-2,vaccines have been rapidly developed and administered to healthy individuals or patients with various diseases in several countries.[4,5]However,some healthy individuals have still become infected with SARS-CoV-2 despite vaccination.Changes in the clinical and laboratory indices of vaccinated patients with COVID-19 remain unknown.In the present study,we report the effects of vaccination in patients with COVID-19.

To evaluate and compare the outcomes and complications of three different surgical techniques for treating primary proximal hypospadias with ventral curvature(VC)≥30°,we retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients who underwent primary repair of proximal hypospadias with vC≥30°after degloving at Beijing Children's Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University(Beijing,China)from January 2019 to January 2021.A total of 152 patients were divided into three groups:transverse preputial island flap(TPIF)combined with Duplay,modified Koyanagi,and staged TPIF,which were performed on 55,16,and 81 patients,respectively.A total of 39(25.7%)patients had complications.Complications rates were similar for the TPIF combined with the Duplay group(40.0%)and modified Koyanagi group(50.0%)but lower for the staged TPIF group(11.1%;P<0.01).The incidence of urethrocutaneous fistulas was significantly higher in TPIF combined with Duplay group(21.8%)compared to staged TPIF group(4.9%;P=0.01).In univariate analysis,the length of the urethral defect was the single factor that could predict complications;the cutoff was 4.55 cm.More patients in the long urethral defect group than in the short one had complications(34.1%vs 15.7%,P=O.O1).These results indicate that staged TPIF produced a better outcome,whereas more patients in the TPIF combined with Duplay group presented with two or more complications.
