Adaptive and scalable load balancing for metadata server cluster in cloud-scale file systems

Big data is an emerging term in the storage indus- try, and it is data analytics on big storage, i.e., Cloud-scale storage. In Cloud-scale （or EB-scale） file systems, load bal- ancing in request workloads across a metadata server cluster is critical for avoiding performance bottlenecks and improv- ing quality of services. Many good approaches have been pro- posed for load balancing in distributed file systems. Some of them pay attention to global namespace balancing, making metadata distribution across metadata servers as uniform as possible. However, they do not work well in skew request dis- tributions, which impair load balancing but simultaneously increase the effectiveness of caching and replication, in this paper, we propose Cloud Cache （C2）, an adaptive and scal- able load balancing scheme for metadata server cluster in EB-scale file systems. It combines adaptive cache diffusion and replication scheme to cope with the request load balanc- ing problem, and it can be integrated into existing distributed metadata management approaches to efficiently improve their load balancing performance. C2 runs as follows： 1） to run adaptive cache diffusion first, if a node is overloaded, load- shedding will be used; otherwise, load-stealing will be used; and 2） to run adaptive replication scheme second, if there is a very popular metadata item （or at least two items） causing a node be overloaded, adaptive replication scheme will be used,in which the very popular item is not split into several nodes using adaptive cache diffusion because of its knapsack prop- erty. By conducting performance evaluation in trace-driven simulations, experimental results demonstrate the efficiency and scalability of C2.

电力系统运行规划主要使用以小时为单位运行的机组组合。目前,可再生能源在用户侧的渗透率越来越高,导致电力系统负荷产生巨大波动。因此,为了维持电力系统运行的经济性和安全需求、确保电力供应的可靠性,我们有必要进行以小时为间隔的最优潮流计算,并且考虑各种可能情况。传统的元启发法比较适合解决最优潮流问题,但是由于耗时太长,实际上并不实用。为此,本文提出了一种进化型多任务处理架构,根据不同负荷需求并行处理多个最优潮流问题。仿真结果表明该架构极大地提升了进化算法在最优潮流问题的利用率,与正统进化算法相比具有更快的计算速度。

BACKGROUND Chronic large to massive rotator cuff tears are difficult to treat and re-tears are common even after surgical *** propose using a synthetic polypropylene mesh to increase the tensile strength of rotator cuff *** hypothesize that using a polypropylene mesh to bridge the repair of large rotator cuff tears will increase the ultimate failure load of the *** To investigate the mechanical properties of rotator cuff tears repaired with a polypropylene interposition graft in an ovine ex-vivo *** A 20 mm length of infraspinatus tendon was resected from fifteen fresh sheep shoulders to simulate a large *** used a polypropylene mesh as an interposition graft between the ends of the tendon for *** seven specimens,the mesh was secured to remnant tendon by continuous stitching while mattress stitches were used for eight *** specimens with an intact tendon were *** specimens underwent cyclic loading to determine the ultimate failure load and gap *** The mean gap formation after 3000 cycles was 1.67 mm in the continuous group,and 4.16 mm in the mattress group(P=0.001).The mean ultimate failure load was significantly higher at 549.2 N in the continuous group,426.4 N in the mattress group and 370 N in the intact group(P=0.003).CONCLUSION The use of a polypropylene mesh is biomechanically suitable as an interposition graft for large irreparable rotator cuff tears.

We investigated the decolorization of Orange Ⅱ with and without the addition of co-substrates and nutrients under an anaerobic sequencing batch reactor（ASBR）.The increase in COD concentrations from 900 to 1750 to 3730 mg/L in the system treating 100 mg/L of Orange Ⅱ-containing wastewater enhanced color removal from 27% to 81% to 89%,*** the absence of co-substrates and nutrients,more than 95% of decolorization was achieved by the acclimatized anaerobic microbes in the bioreactor treating 600 mg/L of Orange Ⅱ.The decrease in mixed liquor suspended solids concentration by endogenous lysis of biomass preserved a high reducing environment in the ASBR,which was important for the reduction of the Orange Ⅱ azo bond that caused *** maximum decolorization rate in the ASBR was approximately 0.17 g/hr in the absence of co-substrates and nutrients.

Fish scale （FS） loaded TiO2 composites were investigated as photocatalysts in degradation of Methyl Orange under solar light irradiation. Composites were prepared through sol-gel method by varying mass ratio of TiO2/FS at 90：10, 70：30 and 50：50, respectively. The catalysts prepared in this study were characterized by using XRD, SEM, FT-IR and nitrogen sorption. The effects of solar irradiation, mass ratio of TiO//FS composites, irradiation time and catalyst loadings were studied. Synergistic effect was found in TiO2/FS of 90：10 composite which performed higher photocatalytic degradation than synthesized TiO2 under solar light irradiation. However, further increasing fish scale content in the composites reduced the photocatalytic activity drastically. Under solar light irradiation, all the catalysts in this study exhibited photocatalytic activity, except TiO2/FS of 50：50 composite that only acted as a weak biosorbent without performing any photocatalytic property. Photocatalytic degradation increased with increasing catalyst loading and irradiation time but decreased with increased of initial dye concentration.

Capecitabine with radiation is an effective adjuvant therapy in gastric cancers

AIM:To analyze the outcome of patients who received concurrent capecitabine(Xeloda) and radiation(XRT) compared to the established concurrent 5-fluorouracil(5-FU) with radiation(5FU-RT) and fluoropyrimidine-based chemotherapy alone as adjuvant treatment in gastric ***:All patients with gastric cancers who received adjuvant treatment at the National Cancer Centre Singapore between 1996 and 2006 were *** outcomes of patients who received XRT were compared with those who had 5FU-RT or chemotherapy alone as adjuvant therapy for gastric ***:A total of 108 patients were *** age at diagnosis was *** majority of the patients(64.8%) had advanced stage Ⅲ and Ⅳ disease(with no distant metastasis).All except 4 patients had D2 *** one patients(19.4%) had positive surgical resection *** three patients received XRT compared with 52 who had 5FU-RT and 23 who received chemotherapy *** the patients in the chemotherapy-only group,all had fluoropyrimidine-based therapy,with added cisplatin in 7 patients and epirubicin in 2 *** recurrence-free survival was longer for the XRT group(52 mo) compared to the 5FU-RT(35 mo) and chemotherapy-only groups(25 mo)(P=0.48).The patients in the XRT group achieved similar median overall survival(53 mo) as the 5FU-RT(54 mo) and the chemotherapy-only groups(44 mo)(P=0.5).CONCLUSION:Capecitabine with concurrent radiation was as effective as concurrent 5FU with radiation or fluoropyrimidine-based chemotherapy alone when used as adjuvant treatment in patients with gastric cancers.
