Target genes discovery through copy number alteration analysis in human hepatocellular carcinoma

High-throughput short-read sequencing of exomes and whole cancer genomes in multiple human hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)cohorts confirmed previously identified frequently mutated somatic genes,such as TP53,CTNNB1 and AXIN1,and identified several novel genes with moderate mutation frequencies,including ARID1A,ARID2,MLL,MLL2,MLL3,MLL4,IRF2,ATM,CDKN2A,FGF19,PIK3CA,RPS6KA3,JAK1,KEAP1,NFE2L2,C16orf62,LEPR,RAC2,and *** classification of these mutated genes suggested that alterations in pathways participating in chromatin remodeling,Wnt/β-catenin signaling,JAK/STAT signaling,and oxidative stress play critical roles in HCC ***,because there are few druggable genes used in HCC therapy,the identification of new therapeutic targets through integrated genomic approaches remains an important *** a large amount of HCC genomic data genotyped by high density single nucleotide polymorphism arrays is deposited in the public domain,copy number alteration(CNA)analyses of these arrays is a cost-effective way to reveal target genes through profiling of recurrent and overlapping amplicons,homozygous deletions and potentially unbalanced chromosomal translocations accumulated during HCC ***,integration of CNAs with other high-throughput genomic data,such as aberrantly coding transcriptomes and non-coding gene expression in human HCC tissues and rodent HCC models,provides lines of evidence that can be used to facilitate the identification of novel HCC target genes with the potential of improving the survival of HCC patients.

Impact of liver diseases on the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus

The prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus （T2DM） is higher in patients who have liver diseases such as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, chronic viral hepatitis, hemochromatosis, alcoholic liver disease and cirrhosis. It is suggested that there is a pathogenic link between the presence of T2DM and the severity of liver injury. However, evidence related to the impact of hepatic inflammation on the development of T2DM has not yet emerged. This article provides an overview of the evidence for an increased prevalence of diabetes in a range of liver diseases, the impact of liver diseases on insulin resistance and 13 cell dysfunction, and the potential mechanisms whereby coexistent liver diseases exacerbate the development of T2DM.

BACKGROUND Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pneumonia with severe septic shock and acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS)are critical illnesses for patients following *** immunoglobulin(IVIG)plays a role in both immune support and inflammation control,especially in immunocompromised *** case report describes the first successful experience using IVIG and pulse steroids to manage this critical condition following lung *** SUMMARY A 65-year-old male patient reported a history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and poor lung function and received bilateral sequential lung ***,he developed COVID-19 pneumonia,severe septic shock,and *** recovered from this critical condition after empirical antibiotics administration and veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation,in addition to IVIG and pulse *** IVIG is a valuable adjunct in managing severe sepsis in lung transplant recipients after COVID-19 *** aim,for the first time,to report the success of such a management approach for COVID-19 ARDS and sepsis in the post-lung transplant *** further investigations,this is a starting point for wider analysis of such an approach in this setting and consequently helps guide clinical practice for such a challenging patient population moving forward.

Co-infection of SENV-D among chronic hepatitis C patients treated with combination therapy with high-dose interferon-alfa and ribavirin

AIM： The clinical significance of co-infection of SENV-D among patients with chronic hepatitis C （CHC） and response of both viruses to combination therapy with high-dose interferon-alfa （IFN） plus ribavirin remain uncertain and are being ***： Total 164 （97 males and 67 females, the mean age 48.1＋11.4 years, range： 20-73 years, 128 histologically proved） naive CHC patients were enrolled in this study. SENV-D DNA was tested by PCR *** of serum HCV RNA was performed using a standardized automated qualitative RT-PCR assay （COBAS AMPLICOR HCV Test, version 2.0）. HCV genotypes la,lb, 2a, 2b, and 3a were determined by using genotypespecific primers. Pretreatment HCV RNA levels were determined by using the branched DNA assay （Quantiplex HCV RNA 3.0）. There are 156 patients receiving combination therapy with IFN 6 MU plus ribavirin for 24 wk and the response to therapy is ***： Sixty-one （37.2%） patients were positive for SENV-D DNA and had higher mean age than those who were negative （50.7＋ 10.6 years vs 46.6＋ 11.6 years,P = 0.026）. The rate of sustained viral response （SVR） for HCV and SENV-D were 67.3% （105/156） and 56.3% （27/48）, respectively. By univariate analysis, the higher rate of SVR was significantly related to HCV genotype non-1b （P〈0.001）, younger ages （P = 0.014）, lower pretreatment levels of HCV RNA （P = 0.019） and higher histological activity index （HAI） score for intralobular regeneration and focal necrosis （P= 0.037）. By multivariate analyses, HCV genotype non-lb, younger age and lower pretreatment HCV RNA levels were significantly associated with HCV SVR （odds ratio （OR）/95% confidence interval （CI）： 12.098/0.02-0.19, 0.936/0.890-0.998, and 3.131/1.080-9.077, respectively）. Ruptured hepatoblastoma with massive internal bleeding in an adult

Hepatoblastoma is the most common primary hepatic tumor of children. However, only a very few cases have been reported in adults. Most studies support treatment with chemotherapy followed by surgical resection. We present the first reported case of adult hepatoblastoma in Taiwan. A 52-year-old female suffered from sudden onset of abdominal pain and general weakness for *** bleeding with hemorrhagic shock was suspected and two massive lesions in both lobes of the liver with hemoperitoneum were noted from imaging *** resection of the larger left lobe tumor and radio-frequency ablation of the right smaller one were performed. The histopathology diagnosis was of a hepatoblastoma.

Classification of Lagrangian Surfaces of Curvatureε in Non-fiat Lorentzian Complex Space Form ■_1~2(4ε)

It is well known that a totally geodesic Lagrangian surface in a Lorentzian complex space form M12（4ε） of constant holomorphic sectional curvature 4s is of constant curvature 6. A natural question is ＂Besides totally geodesic ones how many Lagrangian surfaces of constant curvature εin M12（46） are there？＂ In an earlier paper an answer to this question was obtained for the case e = 0 by chen and Fastenakels. In this paper we provide the answer to this question for the case ε≠0. Our main result states that there exist thirty-five families of Lagrangian surfaces of curvature ε in M12（4ε） with ε ≠ 0. Conversely, every Lagrangian surface of curvature ε≠0 in M12（4ε） is locally congruent to one of the Lagrangian surfaces given by the thirty-five families.

BACKGROUND Bariatric surgery is one of most effective long-term treatments for morbid ***,post-bariatric surgery anemia is identified as a common adverse effect and remains a challenge *** To estimate the risk of post-bariatric surgery anemia and to stratify the association between age,gender,and types of *** This study is a population-based cohort *** conducted this nationwide study using claims data from National Health Insurance Research Database in *** were 4373 morbidly obese patients in this study *** Among patients who were diagnosed with morbid obesity,2864 received bariatric *** obesity-associated comorbidities decreased in the surgical *** risk of post-bariatric surgery anemia among obese patients was found by Cox proportional hazards regression[adjusted hazard ratio(HR):2.36].Also,we found significantly increasing cumulative incidence rate of anemia among patients receiving bariatric surgery by log-rank *** adjusting for age and gender,the increasing incidence of post-bariatric surgery anemia was found among women(adjusted HR:2.48),patients in the 20–29-year-old group(adjusted HR:3.83),and patients in the 30-64-year-old group(adjusted HR:2.37).Moreover,malabsorptive and restrictive procedures had significantly higher adjusted HRs,3.18 and 1.55,*** Bariatric surgery give rise to anemia risk among obese patients,specifically in women,young-and middle-aged patients,and patients undergoing malabsorptive procedures in our population-based cohort study in Taiwan.

Realization of energy-saving glass using photonic crystals

This work successfully developed an energy- saving glass with wavelength selectivity. The glass is composed of a SiO2 substrate and two layers of three- dimensional photonic crystals. Each crystal is composed of identical and transparent polystyrene spheres after their self-assembling. The glass then possesses dual photonic band gaps in the near-infrared region to suppress penetration of thermal radiation. Experimental results show that the energy-saving glass decreases temperature increment in a mini-house. Moreover, the temperature after thermal equilibrium is lower than that inside a counterpart using ordinary glass.

Classification of Flat Lagrangian Surfaces in Complex Lorentzian Plane

One of the most fundamental problems in the study of Lagrangian submanifolds from Riemannian geometric point of view is to classify Lagrangian immersions of real space forms into complex space forms. The main purpose of this paper is thus to classify flat Lagrangian surfaces in the Lorentzian complex plane C1^2. Our main result states that there are thirty-eight families of flat Lagrangian surfaces in C1^2. Conversely, every flat Lagrangian surface in C1^2 is locally congruent to one of the thirty-eight families.

On the resonance analysis for compliant bionic jellyfishes

A bionic jellyfish is a robot that can mimic the swimming of a real jellyfish. In practical application, the volume and the capacity of its carrying power are limited, hence its power consumption is a crucial factor for continuous swimming. The purpose of this paper is to propose an approach for the resonance analysis of bionic jellyfishes in order to investigate their energy efficiency in swimming. First, a suitable rigid-body bionic jellyfish was chosen from the previous study, and then its design approach was presented, Then, it was transformed into a compliant design, by the proposed method, in order to mimic the motion of a real jellyfish. Furthermore, its solid model was drawn, and the approach of modal analysis by using ANSYS software was addressed. After that, two terms, specific energy and energy ratio, were defined in order to evaluate its energy efficiency. Finally, a design example was given for illustration, and its motion simulations with and without resonance input were conducted by using ADAMS software. Additionally, their specific energies and energy ratios were found. The simulation results showed that the required input energy would be significantly reduced if a bionic jellyfish swims at its resonance frequency.
