Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease(MASLD),formerly known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD),is increasingly prevalent in Asia,1 an area also endemic for chronic hepatitis B(CHB).Our previous study showed that the coexistence of CHB and hepatic steatosis(HS)has reached 36.5%in Asia,2 with a similar figure observed globally.3 This coexistence may exacerbate the progression of hepatic fibrosis.

BACKGROUND Recently, the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease suggested no preference between tenofovir(TDF) and entecavir(ETV) regarding potential long-term risks of renal complications. Over the years, renal safety has become a critical concern in nucleos(t)ide analog-treated patients due to the long-term use of these drugs. However, existing studies do not show significant differences in renal dysfunction between these two drugs. Further, there is a paucity of studies comparing the long-term renal effects of TDF and *** To investigate the effects of TDF and ETV on renal function, we performed systematic review and *** Two investigators independently searched the Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, and Embase databases for randomized controlled trials and nonrandomized studies(NRSs) using the keywords 'CHB', 'Tenofovir', and 'Entecavir', and additional references were obtained from the bibliographies of relevant articles published through December 2017. The quality of each study was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa scale and the Grading of Recommendations Assessment,Development and Evaluation criteria. The primary outcome was the change in serum creatinine level in the TDF and ETV groups at baseline, 6 mo, 12 mo and24 *** NRSs comprising 2263 participants met the inclusion criteria. Changes in creatinine levels were higher in the TDF group than in the ETV group at 6 mo[mean difference(MD) = 0.03 mg/dL;95%CI: 0.02-0.04;I2 = 0%], 12 mo(MD =0.05 mg/dL;95%CI: 0.02-0.08;I2 = 78%), and 24 mo(MD = 0.07 mg/dL;95%CI:0.01-0.13;I2 = 93%). Immunocompromised status and interrupted routine care may render patients with cirrhosis vulnerable to the coronavi-rus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic.A nationwide data-set that includes more than 99%of the decedents in the *** April 2012 and September 2021 was *** age-standardized mortality during the pandemic were esti-mated according to prepandemic mortality rates,stratified by *** deaths were determined by estimating the difference between observed and projected mortality rates.A temporal trend analysis of observed mortality rates was also performed in 0.83 million decedents with cirrhosis between April 2012 and September 2021 was *** an increasing trend of cirrhosis-related mortality before the pandemic,with a semiannual percentage change(SAPC)of 0.54%[95%confidence interval(CI):(0.0-1.0%),p=0.036],a precipitous increase with seasonal variation occurred dur-ing the pandemic(SAPC 5.35,95%CI:1.9-8.9,p=0.005).Significantly increased mortality rates were observed in those with alcohol-associated liver disease(ALD),with a SAPC of 8.44(95%CI:4.3-12.8,p=0.001)during the ***-cause mortality of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease rose stead-ily across the entire study period with a SAPC of 6.79(95%CI:6.3-7.3,p<0.001).The decreasing trend of HCV-related mortality was reversed during the pandemic,while there was no significant change in HBV-related *** there was significant increase in COVID-19-related deaths,more than 55%of the excess deaths were the indirect impact of the *** observed an alarming increase in cirrhosis-related deaths during the pandemic especially for ALD,with evidence in both direct and indirect *** findings have implications on formulating policies for patients with cirrhosis.

Energy storage and conservation are receiving increased attention due to rising global energy ***,the development of energy storage materials is *** energy storage(TES)systems based on phase change materials(PCMs)have increased in prominence over the past two decades,not only because of their outstanding heat storage capacities but also their superior thermal energy regulation ***,issues such as leakage and low thermal conductivity limit their applicability in a variety of ***-based materials such as graphene and its derivatives can be utilized to surmount these *** study examines the recent advancements in graphene-based phase change composites(PCCs),where graphene-based nanostructures such as graphene,graphene oxide(GO),functionalized graphene/GO,and graphene aerogel(GA)are incorporated into PCMs to substantially enhance their shape stability and thermal conductivity that could be translated to better storage capacity,durability,and temperature response,thus boosting their attractiveness for TES *** addition,the applications of these graphene-based PCCs in various TES disciplines,such as energy conservation in buildings,solar utilization,and battery thermal management,are discussed and summarized.

Background:Hepatectomy is the preferred treatment for solitary hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)without macrovascular invasion and distant metastasis,but long-term survival remains unsatisfactory in certain *** sought to identify whether the grading severity of microscopic vascular invasion(MVI)was associated with recurrence and survival among patients with solitary ***:Consecutive patients who underwent hepatectomy for solitary HCC were identified from a multicenter prospectively-collected *** were categorized into three groups according to the MVI grading system proposed by the Liver Cancer Pathology Group of China:M0(no MVI),M1(1-5 sites of MVI occurring≤1.0 cm away from the tumor),and M2(>5 sites occurring≤1.0 cm or any site occurring>1 cm away from the tumor).Recurrence-free survival(RFS)and overall survival(OS)were compared among the ***:Among 227 patients,97(42.7%),83(36.6%),and 47(20.7%)patients had M0,M1,and M2,*** RFS rates among patients with M0,M1,and M2 were 38.3,35.1,11.6 months,respectively,while OS rates were 66.8,62.3,30.6 months,respectively(both P<0.001).Multivariate Cox-regression analyses demonstrated that both M1 and M2 were independent risk factors for RFS(hazard ratio 1.20,95%CI:1.03-1.89,P=0.040;and hazard ratio 1.67,95%CI:1.06-2.64,P=0.027)and OS(hazard ratio 1.28,95%CI:1.05-2.07,P=0.035;and hazard ratio 1.97,95%CI:1.15-3.38,P=0.013).Conclusions:Grading severity of MVI was independently associated with RFS and OS after hepatectomy for solitary *** surveillance for recurrence and potentially adjuvant therapy may be considered for patients with MVI,especially individuals with more severe MVI grading(M2).

Objective: To establish a DNA detection platform based on a tapered optical fiber to detect Leptospira DNA by targeting the leptospiral secY ***: The biosensor works on the principle of light propagating in the special geometry of the optical fiber tapered from a waist diameter of 125 to 12 μm. The fiber surface was functionalized through a cascade of chemical treatments and the immobilization of a DNA capture probe targeting the secY gene. The presence of the target DNA was determined from the wavelength shift in the optical transmission ***: The biosensor demonstrated good sensitivity, detecting Leptospira DNA at 0.001 ng/μL, and was selective for Leptospira DNA without cross-reactivity with non-leptospiral microorganisms. The biosensor specifically detected DNA that was specifically amplified through the loop-mediated isothermal amplification ***: These findings warrant the potential of this platform to be developed as a novel alternative approach to diagnose leptospirosis.

Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic started in Wuhan,China,much research work has been focusing on the clinical aspect of *** have been leveraging on various Artificial Intelligence techniques as an alternative to medical approach in understanding the *** studies have,however,reported on COVID-19 transmission pattern analysis,and using geography features for prediction of potential outbreak *** the next most probable outbreak site is crucial,particularly for optimizing the planning of medical personnel and supply *** tackle the challenge,this work proposed distance-based similarity measures to predict the next most probable outbreak site together with its magnitude,when would the outbreak likely to happen and the duration of the *** work began with preprocessing of 1365 patient records from six districts in the most populated state named Selangor in *** dataset was then aggregated with population density information and human elicited geography features that might promote the transmission of *** findings indicated that the proposed unified decision-making approach outperformed individual distance metric in predicting the total cases,next outbreak location,and the time interval between start dates of two similar *** findings provided valuable insights for policymakers to perform Active Case Detection.
