Background:To study the influence of pathological responses(PR)after transcatheter arterial chemoembolization(TACE)on incidences of microvascular invasion(MVI)and early recurrence in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)***:Between 2013 to 2015,consecutive HCC patients who underwent liver resection with“curative”intent at three hospitals were enrolled in this *** with different areas of PR after preoperative TACE were compared with those without preoperative TACE on the incidences of MVI,early recurrence rates and patterns of recurrence before and after propensity score matching(PSM).Results:Of 1,970 patients,737 patients who received preoperative TACE were divided into three groups according to the areas of PR:≥90%(n=226),60-90%(n=447),and<60%(n=64).PR≥90%was an independent protective factor of incidences of MVI[odds ratio(OR),0.144;95%confidence interval(CI),0.082-0.245,P<0.001)and early recurrence(HR,0.742;95%CI,0.561-0.963,P=0.032);while PR<60%was an independent risk factor of incidences of MVI(OR,6.076;95%CI,3.004-11.728,P<0.001)and early recurrence(HR,1.428;95%CI,1.095-1.929;P=0.009).Furthermore,patients with PR<60%were significantly more likely to develop multiple intrahepatic recurrences involving multiple hepatic segments when compared with patients without preoperative ***:This study indicated the area of PR after TACE was closely associated with the incidences of MVI and early tumor *** with PR<60%were at significantly higher risks of having more MVI,early and multiple tumor recurrences.

AIM: To determine the use and teratogenicity of herbal medicinal products (HMP). METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted in a University hospital to compare the difference in the pattern of use and fetal outcomes between pregnant women who took HMP and Western pharmaceutical products (WPP). RESULTS: From 1995 Jan to 2001 Dec, 61 and 372 women took HMP and WPP one month before or during their current pregnancies respectively. There was an increase in the prevalence of pregnant women who took HMP from 0 % in 1995 to 0.8 % in 2001. Among HMP users, 51.6 %, 82.8 % and 58.6 % of them had low monthly family income (<15 000), low education level (secondary education or below) and were unemployed respectively. In comparison to WPP, pregnant women used smaller number of HMP (1.4 vs 3.0, P<0.01) at a later gestation (4.8 weeks vs 3.1 weeks, P <0.01) and within a shorter duration (11.1 d vs 47.9 d, P<0.01). This paper reviews an initial achievement of our group toward the development of on-chip parallel high-speed atomic force microscopy（HS-AFM）.A novel AFM approach based on silicon waveguide cantilever displacement sensor is *** displacement sensing approach uniquely allows the use of nano-scale wide cantilever that has a high resonance frequency and low spring constant desired for on-chip parallel *** approach consists of low loss silicon waveguide with nano-gap,highly efficient misalignment tolerant coupler,novel high aspect ratio（HAR）sharp nano-tips that can be integrated with nano-scale wide cantilevers and electrostatically driven nano-cantilever *** simulation results show that the displacement sensor with optical power responsivity of 0.31%/nm and AFM cantilever with resonance frequency of 5.4 MHz and spring constant of 0.21 N/m are achievable with the proposed *** developed silicon waveguide fabrication method enables silicon waveguide with 6 and 7.5 dB/cm transmission loss for TE and TM modes,respectively,and formation of 13 nm wide nano-gaps between silicon *** coupler demonstrates misalignment tolerance of ±1.8 μm for 5μm spot size lensed fiber and coupling loss of 2.12 dB/facet for standard cleaved single mode fiber without compromising other *** nano-tips with apex radius as small as 2.5 nm and aspect ratio of more than 50 has been enabled by the development of novel HAR nanotip fabrication *** of the HAR tips onto an array of 460 nm wide cantilever beam has also been demonstrated.

Background:Both portal vein embolization(PVE)and associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy(ALPPS)have merits and demerits when used in patients with unresectable liver cancers due to insufficient volumes in future liver remnant(FLR).Methods:This study was a single-center,prospective randomized comparative *** with the diagnosis of hepatitis B related hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to the 2 *** primary endpoints were tumor resection and three-year overall survival(OS)***:Between November 2014 to June 2016,76 patients with unresectable HBV-related HCC due to inadequate volume of FLR were randomly assigned to ALPPS groups(n=38)and TACE+PVE groups(n=38).Thirty-seven patients(97.4%)in the ALPPS group compared with 25 patients(65.8%)in the TACE+PVE group were able to undergo staged hepatectomy(risk ratio 1.48,95%CI:1.17-1.87,P<0.001).The three-year OS rate of the ALPPS group(65.8%)(95%CI:50.7-80.9)was significantly better than the TACE+PVE group(42.1%)(95%CI:26.4-57.8)(HR 0.50,95%CI:0.26-0.98,two-sided P=0.036).However,no significant difference in the OS rates between patients who underwent tumor resection in the 2 groups of patients was found(HR 0.80,95%CI:0.35-1.83,two-sided P=0.595).Major postoperative complications rates after the stage-2 hepatectomy were 54.1%in the ALPPS group and 20.0%in the TACE+PVE group(risk ratio 2.70,95%CI:1.17-6.25,P=0.007).Conclusions:ALPPS resulted in significantly better intermediate-term OS outcomes,at the expenses of a significantly higher perioperative morbidity rate compared with TACE+PVE in patients who had initially unresectable HBV-related HCC.

Let P（G, λ） be the chromatic polynomial of a graph G. Two graphs G and H are said to be chromatically equivalent, denoted G N H, if P（G, λ） = P（H, λ）. We write [G] = {HIH - G}. If [G] = {G}, then G is said to be chromatically unique. In this paper, we first characterize certain complete 6-partite graphs with 6rid＋1 vertices according to the number of 7-independent partitions of G. Using these results, we investigate the chromaticity of G with certain star or matching deleted. As a by-product, many new families of chromatically unique complete 6-partite graphs with certain star or matching deleted are obtained.

Background:The associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy(ALPPS)for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)with fibrosis/cirrhosis is often associated with limited growth of future liver remnant(FLR).We introduced a new procedure named transcatheter arterial embolization-salvaged ALPPS(TAE-salvaged ALPPS)which was shown to be especially suitable for HCC patients with cirrhosis or fibrosis who failed adequately to respond to conventional *** short-term efficacy and safety for the TAE-salvaged ALPPS on patients with HCC and fibrosis/cirrhosis were ***:Consecutive HCC patients who underwent TAE-salvaged ALPPS in our hospital between November 2016 and June 2020 were retrospectively *** new ALPPS procedure included conventional ALPPS stage-1 using associating liver partition and portal vein *** FLR failed to reach sufficient hypertrophy,TAE was carried out 2 weeks later followed by liver resection 3 weeks after ALPPS ***:Nine of 10 patients had a single tumor(median diameter 14.0 cm,range,5.2-17 cm).The remaining patient had multiple tumors(diameter of one tumor 14.0 cm,and two satellite foci 2.0 and 3.0 cm).R0 resection was achieved in all patients(100%)after a median of 21 *** patients had cirrhosis,1 had METAVIR grade-3 fibrosis,and 3 had METAVIR grade-2 *** median increase in FLR volume after TAE-salvaged ALPPS was 69.7%(34.4-143.9%).The absolute and relative kinetic growth rates(KGRs)were 9.9(7.1-17.3)mL/day and 3.4%(1.9-7.2%)/day,*** median absolute KGRs were 15.7,2.6,and 19.5 mL/day in the first,second,and third postoperative weeks after ALPPS stage-1,*** rapid increase in KGR on the third week was induced by *** overall postoperative morbidity rates were 50,0%(5/10),20.0%(2/10)and 70.0%(7/10)after ALPPS stage-1,TAE and ALPPS stage-2,*** 90-day mortality rate was 10.0%(1/10).The median overall survival was 40 ***:The new TA
