BACKGROUND To report on the use of percutaneous hydrochloric acid(HCl) enhanced radiofrequency ablation(HRFA) for the treatment of large(maximum diameter ≥5 cm) hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) in the caudate *** SUMMARY Between August 2013 and June 2016, three patients with a large HCC(maximum diameter: 5.0, 5.7, and 8.1 cm) in the caudate lobe were treated by transarterial chemoembolization followed by computer tomography(CT) guided RFA using a monopolar perfusion RF electrode, which was enhanced by local infusion of 10%HCl at 0.2 mL/min(total volume, 3 to 12 mL). The output power of HRFA reached 100 W, and the average ablation time was 39 min(range, 15 to 60 min).Two patients each underwent one session of HRFA and one patient two *** treatment, CT/magnetic resonance imaging showed that all the three lesions were completely ablated. There was no major complication. Two patients had asymptomatic bile duct dilatation. One patient died of tongue cancer 24 mo after ablation. The remaining two patients were alive and no area of enhancement is detected in the caudate lobe at 28 and 60 mo after ablation, *** Percutaneous CT-guided HRFA is safe and efficacious in treating large HCC in the caudate lobe.

Solid organ transplant(SOT)recipients receive immunosuppressive drugs(ISDs)and are susceptible to developing severe ***,we analyze the Spike-specific T-cell response after 3 doses of mRNA vaccine in a group of SOT patients(n=136)treated with different *** demonstrate that a combination of a calcineurin inhibitor(CNI),mycophenolate mofetil(MMF),and prednisone(Pred)treatment regimen strongly suppressed the mRNA vaccine-induced Spike-specific cellular *** defects have clinical consequences because the magnitude of vaccine-induced Spike-specific T cells was directly proportional to the ability of SOT patients to rapidly clear SARS-CoV-2 after breakthrough *** then compensate for the T-cell defects induced by immunosuppressive treatment and to develop an alternative therapeutic strategy for SOT patients,we describe production of 6 distinct SARS-CoV-2 epitope-specific ISD-resistant T-cell receptor(TCR)-T cells engineered using the mRNA electroporation method with reactivity minimally affected by mutations occurring in Beta,Delta,Gamma,and Omicron *** strategy with transient expression characteristics marks an improvement in the immunotherapeutic field and provides an attractive and novel therapeutic possibility for immunosuppressed COVID-19 patients.

Nanothermites have been employed as fuel additives in energetic formulations due to their higher energy density over CHNO energetics. Nevertheless, sintering and degradation of nanoparticles significantly limit the practical use of nanothermites. In this work, combustion characteristic and aging behavior of aluminum/iron oxide(Al/Fe2O3) nanothermite mixtures were investigated in the presence of micron-scale nickel aimed to produce bimetal thermite powders. The results showed that the alumina content in the combustion residue increased from 88.3% for Al/Fe2O3 nanothermite to 96.5% for the nanothermite mixture containing 20 wt% nickel. Finer particle sizes of combustion residue were obtained for the nanothermite mixtures containing nickel, indicative of the reduced agglomeration. Both results suggested a more complete combustion in the bimetal thermite powders. Aging behavior of the nanothermite mixture was also assessed by measuring the heat of combustion of the mixture before and after aging process. The reduction in heat of combustion of nanothermite mixtures containing nickel was less severe as compared to a significant decrease for the nanothermite mixture without nickel, indicating better aging resistance of the bimetal thermite powders.

Background:The presence of hepatic vein tumor thrombus(HVTT)is a major determinant of survival outcomes in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)*** study compared survival outcomes between liver resection(LR)and intensity-modulated radiation therapy(IMRT)in HCC patients with ***:Data from patients who underwent LR or IMRT for HCC with HVTT at the Eastern Hepatobiliary Surgery Hospital were retrospectively *** survival outcomes were compared before and after propensity score matching(PSM).Results:Three hundred and seven HCC patients with HVTT who underwent either LR(n=140)or IMRT(n=167)were *** matched 82 pairs of *** overall survival(OS)and recurrence-free survival(RFS)rates were significantly higher for patients in the LR group than those in the IMRT *** subgroup analysis,significantly better survival outcomes were obtained after LR than IMRT in patients with peripheral type of HVTT(pHVTT)and major type of HVTT(mHVTT).However,similar survival outcomes were obtained after LR and IMRT when the HVTT had developed into inferior vena cava tumor thrombus(IVCTT).Conclusions:LR resulted in significantly better survival outcomes in HCC patients with HVTT when compared to *** the HVTT had developed IVCTT,LR and IMRT resulted in similarly bad survival outcomes.

Background:Hepatic vein tumor thrombus(HVTT)is a significant poor risk factor for survival outcomes in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)***,the widely used international staging systems for HCC are not refined enough to evaluate prognosis for these patients.A new classification for macroscopic HVTT was established,aiming to better predict ***:This study included 437 consecutive HCC patients with HVTT who underwent different *** survival(OS)and time-dependent receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve area analysis were used to determine the prognostic capacities of the new classification when compared with the different currently used staging ***:The new HVTT classification was defined as:type I,tumor thrombosis involving hepatic vein(HV),including microvascular invasion;type II,tumor thrombosis involving the retrohepatic segment of inferior vena cava;and type III,tumor thrombosis involving the supradiaphragmatic segment of inferior vena *** numbers(percentages)of patients with types I,II,and III HVTT in the new classification were 146(33.4%),143(32.7%),and 148(33.9%),*** 1-,2-,and 3-year OS rates for types I to III HVTT were 79.5%,58.6%,and 29.1%;54.8%,23.3%,and 13.8%;and 24.0%,10.0%,and 2.1%,*** time-dependent-ROC curve area analysis demonstrated that the predicting capacity of the new HVTT classification was significantly better than any other staging ***:A new HVTT classification was established to predict prognosis of HCC patients with HVTT who underwent different *** classification was superior to,and it may serve as a supplement to,the commonly used staging systems.

Modelling is the inevitable first step in the optimization of the heat exchanger plant operation. In this paper, mathematical modelling of the heat exchanger plant was carried out to understand the dynamics of the liquid product temperature for different settings of the PID controller mode. The modelling objective is to address the prediction of the plant performance with sufficient accuracy so that experimental data can be verified with the results of simulation experiments. The experimental data was obtained from heat exchanger plant and the simulation results by model developed by using Simulink toolbox in Matlab software. The experimental and simulation results that were verified exhibited fair agreement.

Acidosis,regardless of hypoxia involvement,is recognized as a chronic and harsh tumor microenvironment(TME)that educates malignant cells to thrive and *** overwhelming evidence supports an acidic environment as a driver or ubiquitous hallmark of cancer progression,the unrevealed core mechanisms underlying the direct effect of acidification on tumorigenesis have hindered the discovery of novel therapeutic targets and clinical ***,chemical-induced and transgenic mouse models for colon,liver and lung cancer were established,***-7 and TGF-β2 expressions were examined in clinical tissues(n=184).RNA-seq,miRNA-seq,proteomics,biosynthesis analyses and functional studies were performed to validate the mechanisms involved in the acidic TME-induced lung cancer *** data show that lung cancer is sensitive to the increased acidification of TME,and acidic TME-induced lung cancer metastasis via inhibition of miR-7-5 ***-β2 is a direct target of miR-7-5 *** reduced expression of miR-7-5 p subsequently increases the expression of TGF-β2 which enhances the metastatic potential of the lung ***,overexpression of miR-7-5 p reduces the acidic p H-enhanced lung cancer ***,the human lung tumor samples also show a reduced miR-7-5 p expression but an elevated level of activated TGF-β2;the expressions of both miR-7-5 p and TGF-β2 are correlated with patients’*** are the first to identify the role of the miR-7/TGF-β2 axis in acidic p H-enhanced lung cancer *** study not only delineates how acidification directly affects tumorigenesis,but also suggests miR-7 is a novel reliable biomarker for acidic TME and a novel therapeutic target for non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC)*** study opens an avenue to explore the p H-sensitive subcellular components as novel therapeutic targets for cancer treatment.

Background:Family history is a risk factor for the development of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).The aim of the current study was to investigate the association between family history of HCC and long-term oncologic prognosis among patients undergoing curative liver resection for hepatitis B virus(HBV)-related ***:Patients who underwent curative liver resection of HBV-related HCC between 2003 and 2013 were consecutively *** history was defined as a self-reported history of HCC in a first-degree *** score matching(PSM)and multivariable Cox-regression analyses were performed to compare overall survival(OS)and recurrence-free survival(RFS)among patients with and without a family ***:Among 1,112 patients,183(16.5%)patients had a family history of *** PSM,179 pairs of patients with and without a family history were created that had no differences in the baseline characteristics and operative *** matched analysis,family history was associated with decreased OS and RFS after curative-intent resection of HBV-related HCC in the propensity matching cohort(P=0.042 and 0.006,respectively).On multivariable Cox-regression analyses,a family history of HCC was associated with decreased OS(HR:1.574;95%CI:1.171–2.116;P=0.003)and RFS(HR:1.534;95%CI:1.176–2.002;P=0.002)after adjusting for other prognostic risk ***:Family history was associated with decreased OS and RFS rates among patients undergoing curative liver resection of HBV-related HCC.

To the Editor:We read with interest of the article by *** et al.[1].The authors concluded that a delay of≥3 months from diagnosis to treatment in patients with Barcelona clinic liver cancer(BCLC)0-A st age hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)does not affect long-term outcomes after curative resection compared with those with a delay of<3 ***,this is a challenging viewpoint,which is contrary to traditional concept– the sooner the tumor removal,the better the oncologic ***,we would like to raise the following comments.
