Changes of tear film and tear secretion after phacoemulsification in diabetic patients

Objective: To evaluate tear film stability and tear secretion in patients with diabetes after phacoemulsification. Methods: Twenty-five diabetic cataract patients and 20 age-matched non-diabetic cataract patients as control underwent pha- coemulsification. Tear film break-up time (TFBUT), Schirmer I test (SIT), corneal fluorescein staining, and dry eye symptoms were measured pre- and postoperatively. Results: Diabetics had a decreased preoperative TFBUT and SIT. TFBUT was reduced on Day 1 and recovered on Day 180 postoperatively in both groups. SIT was increased after phacoemulsification, but returned to preoperative levels by Day 180 in non-diabetics, whereas it was lower than preoperative level in diabetics. Positive corneal fluo- rescein staining was elevated in both groups, and returned to preoperative levels only in controls. Dry eye symptoms were similar to fluorescein staining in both groups. Conclusion: Tear secretion was reduced in diabetic cataract patients after phacoe- mulsification, which worsened dry eye symptoms and predisposed those patients to ocular damage.

Using lactic acid bacteria(LAB)to ferment Huyou peel and pomace could provide a reference for making full use of Huyou resources and provide valuable suggestions for the industrial production of functional *** effects of LAB fermentation on the bioactive composition,volatile compounds and antioxidant activity of Huyou peel and pomace were *** showed that both Huyou peel and pomace were good substrates for LAB *** had remarkable influence on bioconversion of organic acids,among which ascorbic acid content was increased *** addition,LAB could produce flavonoids with enhanced bioactivity and *** particular,the contents of rhoifolin,quercitrin and quercetin were increased by over 100%.Besides,the volatile compounds contents and aroma complexity were ***,the antioxidant activity was ***,our study provides high-value applications of Huyou,and fermented products with improved nutritional value and flavor are potentially beneficial to human health.

Fermenting Chinese bayberry pomace into bayberry wine can make full use of bayberry resources and increase the economic benefits. Polysaccharide is one of the important macromolecular active substances in bayberry wine. The structure characteristics and antioxidant activities of polysaccharides in Chinese bayberry pomace wine and its influence on the bayberry wine quality were studied in this paper. The result presented that P1 and P2 had similar FT-IR spectral peaks and UV spectra, but were very different in microstructure. The Mws of P1 were 2910 kDa (19.5%) and 384.3 kDa (80.5%), and the Mws of P2 were 3564 kDa (14.6%), 463.3 kDa (60.8%) and 86.25 kDa (24.5%). The monosaccharide components of P1 and P2 both include rhamnose, arabinose, galactose, glucose, mannose, galacturonic acid and glucuronic acid. The result indicated that P1 and P2 had antioxidant capacity. There was no significant difference in antioxidant capacity between P1 and P2. With the increase of polysaccharide concentration, the antioxidant ability of P1 and P2 to scavenge DPPH radicals, ABTS + radicals and ferric reducing antioxidant power were enhanced. Both P1 and P2 showed inhibitory ability against HepG2 cells, and the antiproliferative rates increased with the increase of concentration and treatment time. Polysaccharides had effects on the quality of bayberry pomace wine and could improve the color of bayberry pomace wine.

Lanthanide-doped upconversion nanoparticles（UCNPs） are great promising to apply to biomedical imaging and therapy. We prepared NaYF4：yb3＋,Er3＋ nanoparticles with different surface ligands, i.e., without any ligands（bare）, coordinated with 2-aminoethyl dihydrogen phosphate（AEP）, polyacrylic acid（PAA） or polyallylamine （PAAm）, via a simple two-step ligand exchange of oleic acid capped NaYF4：Yba＋,Er3＋ nanoparticles. Although the surface modification retained the crystal structure and transimission electron microscope（TEM） size distribution of the nanoparticles, and good dispersibility in aqueous solution and did not significantly change the upconversion luminescence, distinct differences were observed in the surface charge and hydrodynamic diameter. The cellular uptake and cytotoxicity of the nanoparticles were studied on two different cell lines, breast cancer MCF-7 and fibroblast 3T3. Confocal microscopy images demonstrate that PAAm-coordinated UCNPs can enhance the cellular uptake and endocytosis, whereas AEP- and PAA-coordinated UCNPs show a very low level of nonspecific adsorption Biocompatibility studies based on 3-（4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl）-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide（MTT） assay, however, indicate that PAAm-coordinated UCNPs are more toxic than the other two, and thus need further modifiaction（like PEG coordinating） to improve their biocompatibility. These results are important to the knowledge base required for the biomedical application of the UCNPs.

ANALYSIS OF SPECTRAL CHARACTERISTICS AMONG DIFFERENT SENSORS BY USE OF SIMULATED RS IMAGES

This research,by use of RS image_simulating method,simulated apparent reflectance images at sensor level and ground_reflectance images of SPOT_HRV,CBERS_CCD,Landsat_TM and NOAA14_AVHRR’s corresponding *** images were used to analyze sensor’s differences caused by spectral sensitivity and atmospheric *** differences were analyzed on Normalized Difference Vegetation Index(NDVI).The results showed that the differences of sensors’ spectral characteristics cause changes of their NDVI and *** multiple sensors’ data are applied to digital analysis,the error should be taken into *** effect makes NDVI smaller,and atmospheric correction has the tendency of increasing NDVI *** reflectance and their NDVIs of different sensors can be used to analyze the differences among sensor’s *** spectral analysis method based on RS simulated images can provide a new way to design the spectral characteristics of new sensors.

The zebrafish has become a popular vertebrate animal model in biomedical ***,it is still challenging to make conditional gene knockout(CKO)models in zebrafish due to the low efficiency of homologous recombination(HR).Here we report an efficient non-HR-based method for generating zebrafish carrying a CKO and knockin(KI)switch(zCKOIS)coupled with dual-color fluorescent *** this strategy,we generated hey2^zCKOIS which served as a hey2 KI reporter with EGFP *** Cre induction in targeted cells,the hey2^zCKOIS was switched to a non-functional CKO allele hey2^zCKOIS-inv associated with Tag RFP expression,enabling visualization of the CKO ***,simplification of the design,and the visibility and combination of both CKO and KI alleles make our z CKOIS strategy an applicable CKO approach for zebrafish.

Osteoporosis(OP)is a systemic metabolic bone disease characterized by low bone mass,damage to bone microstructure and increased bone *** imbalance of functional coupling between osteoblasts and osteoclasts contributes to the pathological progression of the disease(Rachner et al.,2011).The pathogenesis of OP is precisely controlled by the complex regulatory network of the bone *** elements,although present in small amounts in the body,are essential for their influence on the physiological activities of *** ions act as effective catalysts and have applications in all stages of cell biochemical evolution(Qian et al.,2021).Bone tissue contains various metal elements,and metal ions play indispensable roles in bone metabolism at the molecular and cellular levels(Luo et al.,2023).However,it is important to note that these metal ions can also contribute to the progression of OP by influencing multiple cellular pathways either directly or indirectly.
