A Novel Thermomorphic System for Electrocatalytic Diels-Alder Reactions

The discovery that lithium bis(trifluoromethane)sulfonamide (LiTFSI)/1-nitropropane (PrNO2) solution functions as a less polar alternative to lithium perchlorate (LiClO4)/nitromethane (MeNO2) solution has led to the development of a novel thermomorphic system for electrocatalytic Diels-Alder reactions. Methyl cyclohexane (Me-c-Hex) can form a monophasic condition with LiTFSI/PrNO2 solution at room temperature, enabling the use of hydrophobic dienophiles. After the electrochemical reaction, a biphasic condition can be formed at –50℃, where the cycloadducts are selectively recovered from the upper Me-c-Hex phase and the remaining lower LiTFSI/PrNO2 solution can be reused.

Pathological studies have suggested that features of vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques likely to progress and lead to acute cardiovascular events have specific *** the progress of intravascular coronary imaging technology,some large prospective studies have detected features of vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques using these imaging ***,the rate of cardiovascular events,such as acute coronary syndrome,has been found to be considerably reduced in the limited follow-up period available in the statin ***,not all disrupted plaques lead to thrombus formation with clinical *** sub-occlusive or occlusive thrombus formation does not occur,a thrombus on a disrupted plaque will organize without any symptoms,forming a"healed plaque".Although vulnerable plaque detection using intracoronary imaging is focused on"thin-cap fibroatheroma"leading to plaque rupture,superficial plaque erosion is increasingly recognized;however,the underlying mechanism of thrombus formation on eroded plaques is not well *** of intravascular imaging,optical coherence tomography(OCT)has the highest image resolution and has enabled detailed characterization of the plaque in ***,we reviewed the status and limitations of intravascular imaging in terms of detecting vulnerable plaque through mainly OCT *** suggested that vulnerable plaque should be reconsidered in terms of eroded plaque and healed plaque and that both plaque and circulating blood should be assessed in greater detail accordingly.

Cushing’s disease is a common endocrinopathy in dogs that is caused by an adrenocorticotropic hormone(ACTH)secreting corticotroph *** dogs with Cushing’s disease have been treated by mitotane or trilostane in small animal clinical medicine[1,2,15-17].In humans,however,the first choice f treatment for Cushing’s disease is transsphenoidal hypophysectomy(TSS)[3,4,6].In human clinical medicine,it has been suggested that excessive suppression of cortisol production using these drugs for the patients with Cushing’s disease might delete the negative feedback effect of cortisol to the hypotahalamus and corticotrophs,and result in promoting the growth of ACTH secreting corticotroph adenoma,

Compensation method for illumination change, which has big influences on the characteristics of imaging system, is studied. On the condition that color chart is placed in the view of camera, the imaging system recognizes the color chart and the signals from the camera are processed by using the color chart data. Concerning the light from the window, and fluorescent light, it is confirmed that color chart is possible to be recognized and the color system is corrected to the expected chart signal within the error 10 % by considering quadratic terms of RGB. This method is considered to improve the accuracy of motion detection and also to better video communication by realizing preferable color reproduction.

Machine learning for materials science envisions the acceleration of basic science research through automated identification of key data relationships to augment human interpretation and gain scientific understanding.A primary role of scientists is extraction of fundamental knowledge from data,and we demonstrate that this extraction can be accelerated using neural networks via analysis of the trained data model itself rather than its application as a prediction *** neural networks excel at modeling complex data relationships in multi-dimensional parameter spaces,such as that mapped by a combinatorial materials science *** a performance metric in a given materials space provides direct information about(locally)optimal materials but not the underlying materials science that gives rise to the variation in *** building a model that predicts performance(in this case photoelectrochemical power generation of a solar fuels photoanode)from materials parameters(in this case composition and Raman signal),subsequent analysis of gradients in the trained model reveals key data relationships that are not readily identified by human inspection or traditional statistical *** interpretation of these key relationships produces the desired fundamental understanding,demonstrating a framework in which machine learning accelerates data interpretation by leveraging the expertize of the human *** also demonstrate the use of neural network gradient analysis to automate prediction of the directions in parameter space,such as the addition of specific alloying elements,that may increase performance by moving beyond the confines of existing data.

The intestinal microbiota is the collection of the living microorganisms(bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and viruses) inhabiting the gastrointestinal tract. Novel bacterial identification approaches have revealed that the gastrointestinal microbiota of dogs and cats is, similarly to humans, a highly complex ecosystem. Studies in dogs and cats have demonstrated that acute and chronic gastrointestinal diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease(IBD), are associated with alterations in the small intestinal and fecal microbial communities. Of interest is that these alterations are generally similar to the dysbiosis observed in humans with IBD or animal models of intestinal inflammation, suggesting that microbial responses to inflammatory conditions of the gut are conserved across mammalian host types. Studies have also revealed possible underlying susceptibilities in the innate immune system of dogs and cats with IBD, which further demonstrate the intricate relationship between gut microbiota and host health. Commonly identified microbiome changes in IBD are decreases in bacterial groups within the phyla Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes, and increases within Proteobacteia. Furthermore, a reduction in the diversity of Clostridium clusters XIVa and IV(i.e., Lachnospiraceae and Clostridium coccoides subgroups) are associated with IBD, suggesting that these bacterial groups may play an important role in maintenance of gastrointestinal health. Future studies are warranted to evaluate the functional changes associated with intestinal dysbiosis in dogs and cats.

Experimental investigation on cohesionless sandy bank failure resulting from water level rising

In the last decade, sediment replenishment forming cohesionless sandy banks below dams has become an increasingly common practice in Japan to compensate for sediment deficits downstream. The erosion process of the placed cohesionless sediment is a combination of lateral toe-erosion and the following mass failure. To explore cohesionless bank failure mechanisms, a series of experiments was done in a soil tank using a compacted sandy soil mass exposed to an increasing water level. Two types of uniform sand(D50= 0.40 mm and 0.17 mm) and two bank heights（50 cm and 25 cm） were used under the condition of a constant bank slope of 75°. The three dimensional（3D） geometry of the bank after failure was measured using a handheld 3D scanner. The motion of bank failure was captured using the particle image velocimetry（PIV） technique, and the matric suction was measured by tensiometers. The compacted sandy soil was eroded by loss of matric suction accompanying the rise in water level which subsequently caused rotational slide and cantilever toppling failure due to destabilization of the bank. The effect of erosion protection resulting from the slumped blocks after these failures is discussed in the light of different failure mechanisms. Tensile strength is analyzed by inverse calculation of cantilever toppling failure events. The tensile strength had non-linear relation with degree of saturation and showed a *** findings of the study show that it is important to incorporate the non-linear relation of tensile strength into stability analysis of cantilever toppling failure and prediction of tension crack depth within unsaturated cohesionless banks.

Effects of scallop shell extract on scopolamine-induced memory impairment and MK801-induced locomotor activity

Objective:To evaluate the neuroprotective effects of the organic components of scallop shells(scallop shell extract) on memory impairment and locomotor activity induced by scopolamine or 5-methyl-10,11-dihydro-5H-dibenzo(a,d) cyclohepten-5,10-imine(MK801).Methods:Effect of the scallop shell extract on memory impairment and locomotor activity was investigated using the Y-maze test,the Morris water maze test,and the open field ***:Scallop shell extract significantly reduced scopolamine-induced short-term memory impairment and partially reduced scopolamine-induced spatial memory impairment in the Morris water maze *** shell extract suppressed scopolamine-induced elevation of acetylcholine esterase activity in the cerebral *** with scallop shell extract reversed the increase in locomotor activity induced by *** shell extract also suppressed the increase in locomotor activity induced by ***:Our results provide initial evidence that scallop shell extract reduces scopolamine-induced memory impairment and suppresses MK-801-induced hyperlocomotion.
