Ischemic Stroke Secondary to Dissection of the Internal Carotid Artery: A Case Report and a Brief Review

Background: Internal carotid artery (ICA) dissections generally occur when a tear occurs in the intima-media layer, either of traumatic or spontaneous origin. In this scenario, multifocal cerebral thrombosis may be a clear consequence of untreated ICA dissection. The incidence of internal carotid artery dissection in the US is estimated to be 1.72 per 100,000 population per year. Objective: To make a brief review of the literature and to explain, through a clinical case, the scenario of multiple ischemic cerebrovascular events is associated with the dissection of the internal carotid artery, in a young patient with no relevant history. Presentation of the Case: A 46-year-old female patient, with no significant history, who came to the emergency service presenting loss of strength in the right pelvic limb, disordered language, and difficulty walking for 3 hours, in the neurological examination evidence of decreased tendon reflexes and loss of strength of the right side of the body. Imaging studies show compromise of the M2 and M3 segments of the left middle cerebral artery, as well as multiple areas of associated ischemia in this hemisphere. Additional studies identify concomitant left ICA dissection. Based on the findings, it was decided to perform a thrombectomy of the affected area, as well as subsequent placement of a stent in the area of dissection. In the control angioTC study, revascularization of the M2 and M3 segments was observed, and in the follow-up of the patient, complete recovery of the symptoms was observed, with muscle strength, tendon reflexes, and preserved language functions. Conclusions: The ischemic cerebrovascular event is a frequent pathological entity in the emergency service;in the scenario of a young patient as mentioned above, it is important to take into consideration the different causes of this pathology. Pyrochemical treatment of spent nitride fuels for MA transmutation

Nitride fuels have several advantages including high thermal conductivity and high metal density(like metallic fuels) and high melting point and isotropic crystal structure(like oxide fuels). Since the late 1990 s, the partitioning and transmutation of minor actinides(MA) has been studied to decrease the long-term radio-toxicity of high-level waste and to mitigate the burden of final disposal. Japan Atomic Energy Agency(JAEA) has proposed a dedicated transmutation cycle using an accelerator-driven system(ADS) with nitride fuels containing MA. The nitride fuel cycle we have developed includes a pyrochemical process. Our focus is on the electrolysis of nitride fuels and their refabrication from the recovered actinides; other processes are similar to the technology for metal fuel treatment and have been studied elsewhere. Here, we summarize our activity on the development of the pyrochemical treatment of spent nitride fuels.

Tensile mechanical analysis of anisotropy and velocity dependence of the spinal cord white matter:a biomechanical study

对应用线性感应电机技术的轨道制动机进行了研究。这种制动机能够产生无接触制动力。除了非接触制动机外,使用动态制动时,不需要车载电源来激励制动机。为降低成本,需要研发一种不使用励磁逆变器的动态制动方法。为此,用感应电机的自励磁现象设计了一种无逆变器励磁方法,并在轨道轮试验台上进行了试验。结果表明,所设计的方法对低成本励磁系统极为有用。

We have isolated a recessive rice mutant, designated as indeterminate growth （ing）, which displays creeping and apparent heterochronic phenotypes in the vegetative period with lanky and winding culms. Rough mapping and subsequent molecular characterization revealed that the ing mutant carries a large deletion, which corresponds to a 103 kb region in the Nipponbare genome, containing nine annotated genes on chromosome 3. Of these annotated genes, the SLR1 gene encoding a DELLA protein is the only one that is well characterized in its function, and its null mutation, which is caused by a single base deletion in the middle of the intronless SLR1 gene, confers a slender phenotype that bears close resemblance to the ing mutant phenotype. The primary cause of the ing mutant phenotype is the deletion of the SLR1 gene, and the ing mutant appears to be the first characterized mutant having the entire SLR1 sequence deleted. Our results also suggest that the deleted region of 103 kb does not contain an indispensable gene, whose dysfunction must result in a lethal phenotype.

Left testicular artery arching over the ipsilateral renal vein

Aim： To report two cases of the left testicular artery arching over the left renal vein （LRV） before running downward to the testis. Methods： The subjects were obtained from two Japanese cadavers. During the student course of gross-anatomical dissection, the anatomical relationship between the testicular vessels and the renal vein was specifically observed. Results： The arching left testicular artery arose from the aorta below the LRV and made a loop around the LRV, which appeared to be mildly compressed between the arching artery and the psoas major muscle. Conclusion： Clinically, compression of the LRV between the abdominal aorta and the superior mesenteric artery occasionally induces LRV hypertension, resulting in varicocele, orthostatic protenuria and hematuria. Considering that the incidence of a left arching testicular artery is higher than that of a right one, an arching left artery could be an additional cause of LRV hypertension. （Asian J Androl 2006 Jan; 8： 107-110）
